Consoles are good for people that just want to game quick, easy, and somewhat cheaply.

There's also console exclusives to consider.

But none of them are worth it. Also, PC gaming is actually a lot cheaper, especially with all the budget rigs you can make now.

*ahem*, Uncharted, God of War, Silent Hill(Downpour and possibly Silent Hills), Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4, A good chunk of the Wii/WiiU's library...

"Somewhat", PC only becomes cheaper when you start taking Steam into account(and for people that won't buy digital, that's not even a factor)

It's still easier to just buy a console, hook it up, and pop a game in(and much quicker, no assembly and download times unless it's patches)

You also have to take how crappy some PC ports have been as of late(The Evil Within, anyone?) because some people just don't want to deal with that.

Oh, I'm talking current-gen consoles. Also, lots of games do things better than Uncharted, God of War, and Heavy Rain. They're nothing THAT special. Plus, The Evil Within is simply a bad game.

Anyways, PC has THOUSANDS more exclusives, most of them great.

My friend owns both current-gen consoles, and he has to deal with an hour of download time per patch on quite high-speed internet. And let's not forget that patches come around rarely for the XB1 and PS4. It may take YEARS for games to get fixed, as both services, especially Microsoft, charge ridiculous amounts of money per patch that the dev has to pay. On PC, devs can patch when they won't, and if they don't fix something, the community will probably release an unofficial patch soon.

Let's not forget about modding capability and upgradability, too. That extends the life cycle of a game to an extreme amount, to the point where I still play DOOM mods. If you're forgetting, DOOM was released 22 years ago.

As for the WiiU, I love it and have no issue, because it actually does something that PCs can't with its touchpad. The other two, however, can very well fuck off, as their godawful business practices are creeping into PC gaming. And let's not forget that each console is monopolized by the company that owns it in terms of digital distribution, making it a lot harder for indies to get noticed, games to get patched, and boosting the prices to make retail happy.

I'm telling you, the decline of the big two "hardcore" (despite the fact that Nintendo has actually made the better console) consoles started back in the middle of the 360's life cycle, as Microsoft and Sony have thrown consumer goodwill out the window in order to make another quick buck.

Silent Hills is current gen, and Uncharted 4 is on the horizon.

Once again though, most of it's exclusives are digital only, leaving out people that won't buy digital content.

Do you realize how long downloading a sizable game through Steam takes? It's more than an hour.

Modding I'll give you, but once again that's only for those of us that are interested in mods and know how to use them.

TEW was only an example, and one of many(just look at the specs for some upcoming titles, they scream unoptimized)

It's sad because the game had potential and actually has some interesting portions buried under the crap.

There's loads of PC games on CD. I have lots of them. In fact, they fill up a whole shelf in my armoire.

Not wanting to buy digital content is frankly retarded, and is eliminating great games on console and PC for completely arbitrary reasons.

Games have to pre-download on current gen for roughly the same amount of time as a large Steam game.

Please name a game that's actually released exclusively on current-gen worth playing for more than a few hours. The only examples you seem to give aren't even released yet, and therefore aren't real examples. You're using intangible evidence.

It's actually not "retarded" because some people might just be collector's or not want to pour money into something they can't actually hold in their hands, or don't trust it may get removed from the service or the service might go defunct.

Define "current gen", are we talking about PS3/Xbox360 as well since they're still supported, or just PS4/Xbone? Also define "a few hours" since more non-open-world games last 8-12 hours not-counting replays and extra game modes.

The thing is, even after Steam shuts down, they're removing the DMR on their games (this was mentioned in the EULA), effectively unlocking them from the Steam client, so there's no worry about losing your games.

Current gen meaning PS4/Xbone, and maybe some more recent XB360 and PS3 games.

And more than a few hours means exactly that. 8-12 hours.

Woah and I thought daring was the worst it got when it came to PC Fanboyism......

It's just the PS4 and Xbox One I have major problems with. Earlier consoles are fine.

Eh, for 400 dollars you can't expect a 780 SLI rig but it's certainly better to build a PC if you can only afford one.

I'm seeing 7970's go for around 100-150 currently

Ok, fair enough. Now you just need a gaming ready CPU with motherboard [probably in the neighborhood of 300 if we're talking about a 6300 with a asus mobo] and 8GB ram [80]. That's not even counting storage or a case and we're already above the nextgen console's price.

Okay, so for the CPU the Athlon 860K, Pentium G3258 or an AMD APU would do fine for gaming. Not so sure about AMD, but Intel's moved most of the stuff that determines CPU performance to the CPU, so motherboard, for the most part, does not matter on Intel. DDR3 prices seem to be falling a bit, so it should be relatively easy to get an 8GB kit for under $70. Storage, I'm beginning to see small SSDs in budget builds as their prices fall, and then for mass storage, a 1TB Western Digital Blue should do. Case... the Cooler Master N200 is a decent MicroATX case. Decent airflow and expansion for a $50 case.

Power supply would be the hardest part of a budget build as you don't want to cheap out on it, but yet at the same time you want to keep costs low.

ok then 7770 for 70

1tb hdd for 50

decent mini atx case for 50

mini atx motherboard for 80

powersupply for 70

APU for 40 - 80

so how about that?

That all comes down to last call and having the resources to download and make perminiate back-ups of all your games(which would be a shit-load of portable HDDs, and you're boned once they die and take all the contents with them). It also doesn't help collectors that like physical copies or things like the extra plastic crap collector's editions make have(also, no mare rare or collectible games if we go fully digital)

Then I can't say, they haven't been out long enough to gauge and I don't own either yet. I can speculate(Silent Hills looks really good and it's questionable if it will even come to PC since it's demo/teaser didn't. Uncharted 4 also looks really good and will be if it stacks up with the others. Sunset Overdrive also seems cool)

Or my rig(a FX-8320/750ti build that comes in at under $600 as of now and even has a Blu-Ray drive)

Agreed, the fact there was budget builds out-performing them only six months after launch proves how cheap they went on the hardware.

No optical drives in any of these? You all bring shame to this thread.

Well optical drives are going to become obsolete eventually thanks to steam, flash drives, and wireless technology.

I agree, if you're going to have all those free 5.25" bays you might as well stick a $15 chunk of metal into it.

I don't remember the last time I used my optical drive.
