Good point. You don't level up by killing monsters. Though personally, I would love a Zelda game that was a full on WRPG.

I guess I should have said that. It's like skyrim w/o experience, and like, half the content.

Ah ok. The fact that it's like skyrim at all intrigues me though.

if you're interested, here's gameplay of the newest one that's supposed to come out this year:

The original 1986 game is very, very open world, like a typical WRPG. There's a story, but you don't have to play by it most of the time. Future titles, not so much, there's a pretty linear, pretty heavily-scripted story to go along with the gameplay, but the new one for the Wii U is supposed to return the series to the original open world formula, a lot like western games from what Nintendo's saying about it.

Yeah, this.

Also, I could never get into the first two, they were extremely confusing.

I could get into the first one, provided I have a map. Second one, I've yet to beat Death Mountain. It's called Death Mountain because you will DIE.

Anyway, let's talk about the PC for a moment here, shall we? Because I must say that Phanteks has earned a customer for life from me.

Good point, this thread is for PC discussion, not console

I'm not sure I would really make that comparison. I feel like a better comparison would be to something like the Ys series, or Okami. Or maybe even Darksiders. Action-adventure with dungeons and some puzzles thrown into the mix. Definitely more fast paced with none of the stat counting such you'd get with Skyrim.

So more JRPG than WPRG? The fact that someone made the comparison still intrigues me though.

Yeah, I'd say so, personally.

Back on topic, I wish Corsair would give me a compelling reason to purchase one of their SSDs at a considerable premium at this point, but I suppose that's what happens when you're not Intel, Samsung, Crucial, or SanDisk.

I don't think I'll buy a new SSD till I get a new OS, personally.

Crucial SSDs are best pony. I mean, the MX100 doesn't have the fastest write speeds ever but it's still a good SSD especially considering the price.

How much GB per price? I might be interested.

Was thinking about getting a samsung 850 EVO 256GB for my SSD. It's only $124, and this is what I'm buying for my PC next:

Yeah, that's exactly the the thing. It's boring! What SSD should I get? Crucial MX100. Reliable, decently fast and CHEAP.

Once Crucial came along and blew out the bottom of the NAND flash market -- I'm just envisioning a future like the hard drive and graphics industry, a wide variety of players whittled down to a handful.

I felt like the added competition really forced some vendors to try and differentiate themselves to be a cut above the rest.

Currently the MX100 256GB (what I have) is valued at $0.41 per gigabyte, which translates to $104.99.

Does anyone have experience with re-installing Windows on a new SSD?

SSDs usually come with offers for or downright include disk transfer software, allowing you to clone your current OS installation onto the SSD.

I meant like, installing the SSD, uninstalling Windows, and re-installing it on the SSD.

At this point I'm not touching TLC with MLC drives being very price competitive, coming in below the cost of those EVO drives. That slowdown issue that plagued 840 EVOs appears to have returned for some people after the firmware fix/refresh tool and as an owner of a vanilla 840, I doubt they ever plan to fix those drives.

No idea how this is going to work with the 3D TLC but there's a ton of great choices out there with established track records for reliability.

I'm a cheapskate. Is some $160 240GB Samsung/Intel/whatever SSD really gonna provide noticeably better performance over this $90 PNY?

This is going to sound really boring -- buy a Crucial MX100 or 200. BX100 is cheaper and based on a Silicon Motion controller, which I've read has pretty solid reviews, but at this point you can't really go wrong with the Marvell-controlled Crucial drives. What's your budget?

That's not a bad drive, but PNY warranty service is pretty meh and for $20 more you can get a *drumroll* MX100 which is faster in all conditions (not SandForce).

To be honest, if I were in the market for an SSD again, I'd look for one that has a proven track record, fast and reasonably priced. The MX100 is all of those. G.Skill is also really good if you're looking for volatile storage (ergo, RAM).

I don't really care as long as it's under $150.
