I need to check my email more than twice a month . . .

What are your specs right now?

My current rig, built back in 2010 or 2011 if I remember correctly:

  • Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4 GHz 8 MB Cache
  • Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
  • Palit NE5X56001142F GeForce GTX 560
  • Kingston 8(2x4)GB
  • HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000, 1.5 TB (just recently added a Seagate, but my installation of Ubuntu to it went spectacularly wrong)
  • ASUS 24X DVD Burner
  • Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-900 900W
  • Zalman Z9 Plus Atx Mid Tower
  • Two 24-inch LED monitors (DVI)
  • Running Windows 7 64-bit  and planning to add Ubuntu or another Linux distro.
  • Currently just runs with fan cooling since I don't bother with overclocking.

Why SLI instead of a more powerful single card?

Well the ideal would be to have two really powerful cards if possible.

I'd certainly start at one though.

I never saw whats so impressive about 60 frames per second. I really dont notice the difference, and even after playing some 60 frames per second games, when i go back to play on the 360, i dont have any problems with the 30 FPS.  Frankly i think the "60-FPS" thing is the new "16-Bits"

I used to know a really good example of 30 vs 60 FPS from Counter-Strike.

I think it's a difference the eye can detect if you know what you're looking for.

It's like spoiling a movie scene--you thought it looked great until someone pointed out the wire, and now you can't stop seeing the wire.

I don't have anything impressive, but my good ole computer can do some pretty awesome stuff anyway. [so can my laptop, but that's more for school]

The 'Pen and Touch' thing is for my drawing tablet [which isn't the best stuff around, but it's still kicks butt for what I use it for.]

From what I remember, my laptop is an ASUS one and runs Windows 8.

As far as gaming, I mainly play Don't Starve, Game Dev Story, and the BioShock series. I also play a lot of other games - but that's a long list to be taken care of later.

2014's upgrade was a desktop instead of a laptop. Part 1 of 2015's upgrade is a new chair.

Remember, don't neglect on chairs! Poor lumbar support or a generally uncomfortable chair can be both distracting and dangerous to your health. And while I got this chair on the cheap, either $14 or $22 (can't remember how much, but it was pretty massively discounted), it's normally a $150 chair. I'd expect this thing to give me good, proper lumbar support along with greater comfort than my old one.

You know what i wish Steam had? The abbility to disable achievements. As in you wont see them and no one else will see them. This is for people like me who find achievments distracting. I hope im making sense.

Also, another good idea, have Steam have a built in "Can You Run It" thing, where you just click on a game, click on the "Scan Computer" option, and it will tell you if your computer can run your game, with either Red (cant run), Orange (can run at minimum settings, give or take), Yellow (can run at medium settings, give or take), and Green (can run at maximum settings).

There is only one game on Steam, The Ship, that checks to see if your PC meets the system requirements, and will notify you if it doesn't. I think Left 4 Dead 2 does that too, but it doesn't tell you which parts don't meet the sysreqs.

There is, however, nVIDIA GeForce Experience and AMD Gaming Evolved to optimize a game's settings for your hardware.

I wasnt asking IF Steam does that, i was suggesting that Steam SHOULD do that. Sorry.

Ah, I see. Well, the general rule-of-thumb is that if you have a desktop with at least a Core i3 or FX-8320 CPU, a GTX 750 Ti or R7 265 GPU and at least 6GB RAM, then you won't have to worry about system requirements much.

Oh ok. Whats your opinion on my other idea? You would still earn achievements, but you wont be notified and they wont appear on your profile until you go into settings and re enable achievements. I just think achievements took away what old games had. You no longer do things because you want to, you do them to get an achievement. Atleast thats how i feel. Seems Nintendo was the only one not doing it, but now it seems they might be doing achievements as well.

I'm pretty sure that if that happened, achievement whores would bitch about it even though it's optional. Some people just love those things.

Ugh, I can't play GTA V yet, because I bought a key that works with the Social Club launcher and not steam, and people have been having problems downloading the game on the Social Club launcher, slow downloads, interrupts, and the like. I've had the game since last wednesday but I can't play it because the download speeds are complete crap, and it's at 36GB out of 60, and my download speeds are consistently 300 kb/s or lower and it keeps saying "Lost connection to download server, retrying" My bandwith is 16Mbps.

Would like some other opinions about my idea as well. For some reason when i suggested my ideas on Steam forums people overreacted negatively.

I think Daring hit the nail on the head with that one. That's probably why people overreacted negatively.

For me, achievements appear in a small enough window in the bottom right corner of the screen and I can barely notice them.

I just dont like them because, lets face it, some people just dont have the reflexes to get some of them, so its forever 80 to 90%. I also HATE multiplayer acheivments, especially when you decide to get a game you are interested way late and all the servers are down. Makes it impossible to get them.

I understand that, personally, and I don't care for most achievements, but I don't get bothered by them.

Unless I get something cool out of it, like an unlock or something.

I feel pressured by them. and not in the good way. I dont have fun getting some of them. I especially hate the more luck based ones, like "get a triple kill with a sword, but the sword is only on a few maps".

I know what you mean, but like I said, Daring said it best, it most likely won't happen because a lot of people are achievement whores would get angry.

Why would they get angry? only i would be hiding my achievments, and a few others. How selfish of them.

Reminds me of the whole "If I don't like it it shouldn't exist".

More like the opposite "If i like it everyone should have to be subject to it" What, do these grassholes want to feel superior knowing there are people out there who will never be able to get all achievments?

I don't believe achievements have taken away anything from games. If people want to 100% a game, more power to them. Getting all achievements doesn't net you anything -- you can still enjoy a game without chasing them down.

Of course, but whats wrong with hiding achievemnts from others AND yourself? Just make it so you arent notified of them, so you dont see the achievment list UNLESS you reenable it. Why is that so hard?

I'm sure it's trivial to do, but they don't care enough to do it. That's all.

of course, but i mean why would people get OFFENDED by it?

I'm guessing because they have too much time on their hands and are offended by everything?

If they implemented such a feature, I'd probably check it off since I care zip about achievements. That said, I'll just continue to ignore the little pop-ups if that feature never comes to pass. I can't say its really bothered me at all. My 2c.
