technology The Glorious PC master race thread

KSP is more heavily CPU speed-dependent than core-dependent due to limitations of the Unity engine, so having all the gigahertz is more beneficial than having all the cores.

Yep... this is why I wish I had an Intel Cpoo. xD

The i7-4790K and its 4GHz base speed seems like a wicked great processor for KSP.

Yep. It's single-threaded performance is roughly double that of mine. Theoretically, that could mean my 200 part limit could be expanded to around 400 parts or so... assuming the scaling is linear. But I'm not so sure it is.

I wonder how the CPU overclock world record 8.8 GHz FX-8350 would stack up... :nom:

My guess is that it would be about equal to the 4790, if not slightly better. Actually, probably about 20-30% better. 1509 CPU mark score at 4GHz should correlate to ~3300 at 8.8GHz. That would be around 30% extra performance compared to the 4790's score of 2534.

Ouch. Haven't played it. Didn't look like there was enough horror and too much RE6.

MX100? Or something else?

It's closer to RE4 in gameplay, it's slower paced and there's a lot of ammo-conservation involved(aim for the head, and take down each foe with as few shots as possible). It also has some legitimately scary and intense moments.

So overall, what would you give it?

Maybe a 3/5 stars, it's worth torrenting or buying when it drops to like $20 or less but I wouldn't go shell out full price for it. It would be closer to 4/5(maybe a 3.5) if they'd release a patch to optimize it better.

I bought a old copy of BloodRayne 2 and it had a ad for a "gaming pc" you can win at the time in it. I didn't realize how old this game actually was until I got a look at the specs of something worth using as a prize at the time.

I selected a PC build from Austin Evans (thank you for the source) but for a variety of reasons I dont think I will be able to build it myself. Are there any services one can use to construct a PC for a fee?

Youtube, time, and your two hands.

http://www.gog.com/ Hey guys a heads up. The good folks of CD Projekt Red are doing a flash fall sale on many DRM free games and they're giving Mount and Blade game for free.

nabbed to add to my(small) GOG library.

Anybody here want to rate my future build?

AMD FX-6300 Six-Core

Sapphire Radeon r9 280x 3gb

ASRock Micro ATX motherboard

Crucial Ballistic Sport 4gb single DDR3 RAM

Corsair builder series CX 500w power supply

Rosewill Micro-ATX Mini Tower computer case

Seagate Barracuda 1tb HDD

All of the parts are being purchased off Amazon and will total up to about $598.12, plus an extra $100 for a copy of Windows 7.

I'd really go with 8GB or ram, I was just testing Battlefield 4 and it was eating 5.2GB at all times. I'd consider getting a FX-8xxx CPU as well but the 6300 will work and the RAM is more important at this point because only have 4GB WILL cause problems pretty quick.

That's all I see wrong with it, unless someone else notices something I didn't.

I'm gonna agree with Shoboni here, 8GB RAM should be more desirable for a PC than 4.

It's what after-burner defaults to and I was lazy because I assumed the site would support all image formats. Here's the screenshots working right

Like I said, I think I've tweaked the setting enough and have it running well and looking pretty good.

Tried running 3DMark? I like to do that just to see where I stack up against the rest of the world in case there's something up with my config.

Not yet, there one of those online things I ranked my old "computer" on but I can't remember which one I used XD.

Does it cost anything?

To add to the above, here's actual video I took at those settings:

Na, it's free. http://www.futuremark.com/benchmarks/3dmark

There's a Steam version but I don't use that one since you'll have Steam running in the background. It probably doesn't make that much of a difference but eh.

Fire Strike is the one you should run. The other tests are designed for low-power PCs and mobile devices.

Downloading it right now.

Chrome sucks, dowloading it slowing it to a crawl
