I got a pre-built computer because I really don't know anything about building PCs, after about 2 years of using it I just stuffed a new graphics card in it (after cutting through metal framing to make room), and it's been working fine for me ever since.

  • Intel i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz
  • GeForce GTX 660
  • 12GB DDR3 Ram
  • 1TB hard drive (Too lazy to see what type it is)
  • Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Planning on getting some SSDs when I get some money

From my own experience, building a PC isn't really that hard. There's a lot of manual labor involved, yes, and my body ached a bit a day after because of how heavy it was, but it really is like putting adult Legos together.

Finally got to test out Star Citizen for like the first time in a few months. CPU load was near 100% most of the time on all four cores, as expected. GPU load was roughly 90% in the hangar, but less than that in Arena Commander. Settings were at medium and frame rates were in the 30+ range.

But the game crashed, as it did many times before. I'm thinking my CPU overclock isn't as stable as I want to believe it is. xD Might do some tweaking with that later.

Geez, that seems kinda... Not good for your system... Also, building a system from start's fairly easy. Check out pcpartpicker.com if you want to make things much easier. (Trust me, this is coming from a 14 year old. Also, there's a video of a 5 year old building a PC.)

Also, I updated my older build plan:

Changed the HDD to a 1TB instead because the last time I tried installing a 2TB in a PC, Windows 8 wouldn't detect it. Also, it makes the build a bit cheaper.

I've seen total tech-heads with tight budgets do crazy shit like rip out drive-bays to fit bigger cards, and I once saw someone build a PC out of spare-parts and a cereal box as a case when they really needed online and their main was down for the count.

If anyone has a Tumblr, I made a gaming blog:

My older brother was thinking of getting a PS4 because he wanted to play The Evil Within and Shadow of Mordor, so I decided to be the friendly neighborhood PC Master Racer and think on building what me and him agreed to call "The Playstation Killer" because of the price being near the PS4.

Do you think it would play either of the two games on at least lowest settings smoothly?

Shadow of Mordor is very well-optimized, as long as you allocate 1GB RAM to the on-board GPU for low textures you should be fine (I have a GTX 760 2GB, with textures set to medium and pretty much everything else set to High I get 60 - 80FPS when set to 1920x1080). The Evil Within, I'm not too sure about. @Shoboni?

Found a Shadow of Mordor test on an older APU, the A10-5800K. Couldn't find any on the 6790K, but this is what it looks like on the 5800K.

Oh, you won't be running the poorly optimized wreck that is TEW on a APU, it even chokes my 750ti on 900p with all post-processing turned off(drops to 22FPS in some places). Mordor I can't speak for.

You might play it sub-HD(MAYBE 720p) on low settings(because there is no medium), but you ain't going be running it any way that looks decent, or even passable if you want to stay above 30FPS.

You know, this is a pretty good discussion - what is the cheapest PC that can run Shadow of Mordor? If I had more money, I'd HAVE to look into this!

Mine is $630 as of now and it can only run it on medium/1080p from what I've seen(and even that isn't 60FPS, more like 40FPS+)

How's it run on your system?

Average 30-40 FPS on max-ish settings, with the lowest frame rate still being above 25.

That said, this game seems to be suffering from the same stuttering problems that FC3 did. At times, the game will pause completely for like 0.1-0.2 seconds or so. I think it has something to do with loading too many chunks of data at once, but I could be wrong.

YouTube degrades the quality and lowers the frame rate to 30, but you get the idea. It looks pretty damn good.

Youtube supports 60FPS on HD videos now, they have for a few weeks.

Really? It seems like the YouTube video is capped at 30. I had FRAPS record at 60, and I was actually getting around 30-50 FPS in that scene there.

That's pretty impressive for a card that's going on 3 years old. I bet a high-end card today would whoop this game's ass, even at higher resolutions than 1080p and with more AA. You see, Ubisoft, this is how games should be made.

Okay, so it's actually 59FPS, but in Chrome, set the resolution to 720p or 1080p, and you get 60FPS playback. (Any slowdown is because that was recorded on my laptop, and that thing sucked and was stupid and could barely handle 60FPS video recording, which sucks because I can't stand gaming in 30FPS anymore.)

That looks pretty nice. FC3 ran like a dream for me so good to know that FC4 is gonna be more or less the same.

Yep. It runs about the same, but FC4 looks waaaaaaaaaay better. All the added graphics settings and tweaks in FC4 barely use up any FPS.

Except NVIDIA's enhanced Godrays. Can't run those on my AMD card without a major performance hit... and I really don't wonder why.

Also, I bet you guys could never guess what my favorite weapons are to use in FPS games. xP

Anyone had any experience with Geil Dragon RAM? I'm thinking of getting a 4X4GB set to replace my failing RAM, plus....DRAGONS .U.!

though what i would ideally love to do is 2x 8gb and 2x 4gb.

7970GHZ on the way too, 6GB Version so ....4K Skyrim textures Here i come.

also Anyone got experience using a Cooler Master Seidon ?? My friend gets like below 30C with it on her FX 8350 yet my 212 EVO sticks around 40C On my i7 4820K. so if it can keep her CPU that damn cool then imagine what it would do for mine.

Why does my computer keep this thing every so often where it slows to a crawl and I have to restart after using it a few hours?

Do you hear any hard drive noises before then? Because if the rest of your PC (e.g. case fans) are silent, you should hear it easily.
