Also, what would happen if you don't activate Windows?

Because I still have the product key in my box, yet it doesn't seem to work. It says it's being used on  another PC, likely referring to another one I own, and I have to buy a new product key.

If you don't activate Windows, there is a 30-day period trial period, after which the system I believe cannot be used until you properly activate it, correct me if I'm wrong

Why should I have to pay for Windows again if I already own a copy? Why can't I just simply use the key I already own?

When the key doesn't work, call the number that they give you. That will take you to their automated phone support. They'll ask you how many computers you've installed your key on, and you can... y'know... tell them it's just one and they'll let your key work again.

 

I've been through this before. It worked for me.

As long as it's not a copy from a OEM machine, I found out the hard(and expensive) way that OEM licenses became became tied to the machine as of Windows 7.

Those are retail copys, in that case, I'm pretty sure you are fine.

 

OEM licenses are on machines that have pre-installed versions of Windows by manufacturers such as Dell, or if you buy an OEM license off Amazon

Lol yeah, I need to play Kerbal again, too. I haven't played in a week or so... I've been playing through the new career mode, taking my time exploring Mun and Minmus. I have a bunch of stations and satellites hanging around, but I kinda miss the more challenging interplanetary expeditions that I used to do.

 

If you're going to Laythe, I'd recommend making a plane for the final stage. You'll need the ability to fly if you don't want to land on the water, and the jets will actually work.

 

Have you tried using the new MK3 parts? I've tested them a little, but they seem too inefficient for my tastes. Too big, and too heavy. I haven't tried using them in the career mode, so maybe I can find a semi-useful design with them.

 

Oh, and if you want an easy way to get a lot of science, build a large rocket and attach a bunch of probes to the front. Haul the thing over to Jool, and put it in a high orbit. Then you can launch the probes off one by one, and use those to do research around Pol, Bop, and Jool. Even small ion probes are capable of landing on Pol and Bop's surfaces with no problem. You can get like 2k or more science just by doing this, and the cost of the rocket is surprisingly low for how much money you make.

Laythe was just an idea. I've spent too much time in the atmosphere of Kerbin, been making trips to the north and south pole and back to test the range of my atmospheric planes. Landing a plane is so intense, it's unreal. Maybe I'll go to Duna instead, and actually account for the return dV requirements this time.

 

One of the streamers I follow, ShimmyTheJJ, used the new Mk3 parts for their intended purpose, a space shuttle. Launches like how NASA did it, too.

I can show you some of my designs if you like, but the idea is to put parachutes only on the top of your plane, then activate them at low altitude and low speed. Cut the engine, and use RCS/SAS to keep the plane level to the ground. Then you can land vertically.

 

Just make sure your parachutes are an equal distance from the center of mass, and you're good. Don't want to create any moment with that, or else you'll be heading to the ground with your cockpit or engine face first.

 I just land my planes the "normal" way, vertically on the runway. I've only slipped up once in this save file. Here's some screenshots I took after returning from a south pole mission meant to make up for that failed mission, if you're interested.

I've found that the Mark2/SP+ parts give the best bodies and wings for a spaceplane. Even built an SSTO using them.

The odd thing is that I've never been able to build a working spaceplane with a design too drastically different from the one in the video. I can get lightweight planes into orbit easily, using only a single body of 1.25m parts. But once I start using the heavier parts, my design falls flat. Things get unstable, harder to control, and much, much less efficient.

 

Also, I absolutely fail at using more than one jet in a spaceplane. When they run out of air, one of them burns out before the other, and it makes my Kerbals sick. No matter how much SAS I use, it's still too hard to control.

I will be using my laptop considerably more frequently. I'm wondering if there are games people would recommend me getting at some point that have low demand for performance. To get an idea of my laptop's power, the most advanced game that's actually playable is COD4 (maybe CODWAW is playable as well but have not tested yet) which probably runs at about 30FPS (haven't actually seen FPS counter).
