general media Matt Taylor's shirt. This has gone too far

It was a very inappropriate shirt to wear to a public meeting. He really should have thought it through. I seriously don't think it was okay for him to wear that shirt to such a public, official place, and I do think he should have known better.

However, it's a fine shirt to have and I've nothing against him wearing it. I'd even be able to wear it myself. He just chose a very, very poor time to strut his stuff. I expect poor sensibility from him far more than I expect sexism.

Ehh, he just achieved something bigger than most of us ever will, I doubt I'd think of that myself when achieving something that big. Strong emotions tend to make people forget about VERY obvious things. Sure, T shirt is a bit odd but making THAT big deal of it under those circumstances was stupid and uncalled for.

When someone manages to fly to the mars will we care only about a T shirt too...?

Are you fucking kidding me? I don't even have words for this, the shirt isn't even THAT BAD, sure it's a little unprofessional, but who cares. I don't understand how it's sexist, it's just a bunch of hawt looking girls.  :smug:  I wouldn't give a fuck if a girl wanted to wear a shirt with a bunch of shirtless guys either. It's just supposed to be goofy and that's not a big deal.

This guy has more important things to think about then a bunch of idiots.

Which is exactly why he should have put more thought into presenting himself. He'd already made a mark on the world, now he had to make a mark on the people who inhabited it... and he messed up.

It's not like wearing a shirt to a convention or Internet meet-up, it's wearing the shirt to a black tie event. It's just inappropriate.

I don't think he's sexist and I don't think there's anything wrong with that shirt, but it is provocative and I think he should have put much more thought into his wardrobe that day.

The people around him are to blame as well, for they didn't say anything (did anyone seriously think he'd get away with wearing a shirt with half-naked ladies at a public celebration and get away with it with no flack whatsoever? Yes it's been very extreme, and it's definitely gone too far, but I'd say it's definitely deserving of at least a few raised eyebrows).

It was a poorly made decision, but that's all it was: he's not any less accomplished now, and he's not any worse of a person... but now he's got half a nation against him. Something like this is going to affect him for a good while longer, even if it really, really shouldn't.

And, yes... it really, really shouldn't. It's a shame that people are getting so carried away with this. I see it as a slip in judgment, and my opinion of him is slightly lowered because of it, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't ask for his autograph and a picture if I saw him on the street--it just means I'd keep a close eye on other things he's doing.

He's clearly very intelligent, but not well practiced in social matters if he thinks wearing a shirt like that in public won't attract any negative attention.

It's a lot less sexist because it's actually all the same lady. It's not saying "all girls are sexy and/or sex objects", it's saying "that's one beautiful babe".

Honestly, one shirt isn't going to change the way sexism works. I see a "I'm not a lesbian, but my girlfriend is" shirt at least two or three times a week and most people in my area are still shamefully homophobic.

If I made a big scientific achievement like what Matt Taylor did, I'd wear whatever I damn well please.

The shitstorm over Matt Taylor's shirt is fucking disgraceful. Seriously? Over a shirt? A shirt? This man makes a significant scientific achievement that is a great improvement for humanity and the "thanks" he gets is bullying from feminazis for wearing a shirt they didn't like? *40 facedesks*

Mrrepzion and this article basically sums up what I think about this:

Ehh, You missed the part where I said that probably he was way too occupied with other things to even realize what was he wearing during the interview. I don't  blame the guy for what he was wearing. Maybe it was too...much, but after what he did he deserved to be left in peace. Not like he should've been "bullied" like that if he did not achieve what he achieved. Even then it is stupid T-shirt and I've seen a lot more controversional ones already. And nobody said a thing about those.

Ehhh, one T-shirt and interview is not enough to judge on his social skills, You know? It is like judging what I am like after I wrote 2-3 posts on forums with Applejack sig and avatar. You'd know *a bit* about me but You'd also miss huge part of my personality.

I still think other topic should be started to discuss what he actually achieved. Right now we all give attention to some stupid women making big deal over stupid shirt when some "feminists" don't hesitate to do much more gross stuff as "protest" without being judged by so huge amount of people. Maybe I'll even start the thread later myself.

This thread has had quite a few issues and there are plenty of other discussion topics on feminism. As a result this thread has been locked but feel free to discuss this topic in other feminism threads in the debate pit.
