Will Season 5 Attempt To Explore Rainbow's Past A Little More

Okay, well Rainbow isn't my favorite pony. But I have always found her to be the most fascinating because we know so little about her. Part of it is her ego, I am really interested to see what happened to her and how she became the mare that she is today. Alot of the traits that Rainbow has are often acquired through environment. Fluttershy we saw is partly so shy because she was bullied, and I would like to think or at least hope in season 5 that her friends have made her come out a little more with their understanding. We have seen Rainbow's ego get less and less but I want to know why this was, I think it could make for a really interesting episode. What events in the past made Rainbow Dash the mare she is.

Well it'd be nice to know more about every-pony's past a lot more.

They probably will have an episode or two about ponies past, maybe explain more about them and stuff.

It'd be awesome for episodes like that, maybe have a sister they don't talk about much or something.

Season 5 Spoilers and Speculation

 

 

JDL said Discord gets jealous of an old friend of Fluttershy in a season 5 episode. If the equal sign cutie mark challenge is going to extend beyond the premier - which I am predicting - then the other hints released are pointing to a theme where the Mane Six rely on friends from their past during this time of crisis. Rarity and Coco, Pinkie goes back to the farm, I expect Gilda or Lightning Dust to return, and who knows about Fluttershy.

 

 

I do expect we learn about something from Dashie and her past. 8)

That's probably not going to happen. The reason why Rainbow Dash isn't Firefly is because Hasbro doesn't own the rights to Firefly anymore.

Geez I hope not! While RD seems to really need a background story I'd rather not see just her and see the other ponies too. Perhaps Hasbro may try to add more male characters by having the ponies celebrate father's day and RDs dad could come to visit and tell stories about when Rainbow was little, accidentally embarrassing her in front of her friends and their dads. Of course Hasbro won't do this but it would be really cool!

I didn't say I didn't care about Fluttershy. Its just that: 1. We have a fair idea on what Fluttershy's past was like, very unhappy; and 2. with the exception of Rainbow Fall's and a few others like Keep Calm and Flutter On , most Fluttershy centered episodes are bad, she's the opposite of Rarity. I don't doubt that they could create a really compelling story and this show could try again to handle bullying (After One Bad Apple didn't know what it was trying to teach and some morals were bad).

 

I don't dislike Flutters, I just think she has been given the worst treatment of all of the main 6 and when they try to change that they often fail and create train wrecks like Putting Your Hoof Down. Also I think that Rainbows would be more interesting and less of a risk take for the writers. But Fluttershy has to have some episodes this season and this would be a good idea. Hell, why can't we have both.

I just hope they don't give us some kind of sanitized past that really does not fit her. 

 

Rainbow Dash really peaked in season 3.  She had matured so much by the end.  In season 4, they did all kinds of crazy things to her personality.  Lots of stuff that really REALLY did not fit my headcanon for her and made her far less likable, less deep. 

 

When they go into background you end up with things like where Scootaloo lives.  At least that one was vague.  That very well could have been what passes as an orphanage in ponyville.

 

Giving Fluttershy a bubblegum background would wreak havoc on her character, would pull on the threads of her life and leave her lacking.

There are a lot of ponies who's backstories I want to see more of, but RD's definitely one of the big ones for me. Be neat to see some kind of explanation for why she is the way she is.

For Rainbow Dash.  We know

She's from Cloudsdale (IMO, that is where most Pegasi live)

She got called "Rainbow Crash" as a kid, showing she was either a clumsy kid or had some REALLY spectacular crashes.

She met F  & Gilda at flight camp, & got her cutie mark trying to help F against bullies

For some reason she didn't get credit for the 1st rain boom (Before the Best Flyers competition, the other ponies didn't seem to know this)

She was 1st in her class to get her Cutie Mark

She didn't like reading & had some kind of learning disability (most likely ADD)

Nevertheless, she was a good enough flyer that she was in charge of the weather in Ponyville before episode 1.

Moved to P on her birthday

Had a father w a rainbow colored mane

Was Flag Pony at 1 of the Equestria Games

She got kicked out/ dropped out of flight camp for "too many rules & not enough naps"  IMO, she got kicked out for knocking F off a cloud so she fell to what should have been her death (At least, if I was in charge, I'd take a DAMN dim view of that incident)

 

 

As you see, if you add it up we know about as much of her background as we do Twilight's background.  The really mysterious ones are Flutttershy (all we really know is she met Dash at Flight Camp, either never met or didn't get along w Gilda & got picked on (probably a LOT)), + Scootaloo & Zecora (we don't know 1 blessed fact about either of those 2 from before episode 1)
