ShadOBabe 19,011 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 (edited) Well right now it kind of looks like you're tracing or copying the art from others. I've seen some of that artwork before, and I don't believe you're the original artist. I understand attempting to learn, but try and use other art as a reference, and draw your own scenes and poses. SFyr 1,982 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 I think everyone should draw more, regardlessly. Though, admittedly I don't know how you're going about this, so I'm going to offer my opinion on three potential cases (just look at whichever applies ) : * If these all truly belong to you, awesome work, and you're well on your way; just keep up experimenting and doing awesome stuff. * If these are sketched from an existing work (but not traced), I find it's a useful thing when trying to pin down anatomy and interesting styles--it's like the other-world equivalent of drawing from real life--however it's best to follow it with challenging yourself to take it further. For example, I would take a piece of work I found inspirational, recreate it, then close out my reference and draw the character from different angles, or in different poses. Helps a lot with learning to 'capture' those traits and use them in your own art. * If you're tracing to get these, as in overlaying the image somehow to ensure it will always be accurate (ex. placing paper over the screen and jotting down lines), you're not gonna learn much in my opinion--makes it more of a mechanical process than an artistic one. Drawing is training, and what you're doing is what you're gonna learn to be better at. But, it's great to build up an artistic skill regardless. Drawing in particular becomes useful in almost every other medium, too. When working with 3d mediums, concept and planning drawings are useful as heck, and even painting/other 2d mediums may benefit from being able to lay down groundwork through drawing. Iris_ 136 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 I don't think Platinum Scratch is claiming to own the original pics, this was probably intentionally drawn for practice, or just because he/she likes those drawings I guess =p. It's always good to draw anything, and drawing something that someone else has already drawn can be a nice way to learn something about the drawing that you don't notice at first. I don't think there is any issue as long as Platinum isn't claiming ownership of the original drawings. Overall the drawings look nice and you should go make some more, maybe something new, so you can show it off without anyone complaining =p

Luna the Great of all the Russias 2,997 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 I was about to say that these look like good drawings/sketches (hard to tell with quality of picture) but now I'm uncertain of your actual drawing level if they're in fact tracings; It's fine to use other images as references, but I don't expect there's much to gain from just tracing. But I will say regardless of what your level is, I fully support drawing more. If you have higher skill level, then why not show it off? If not, then you will inevitably improve overtime by drawing more. Pony Art Thread Brony since ~25 July of 2011.
