StormdustPony 471 February 3, 2015 Share February 3, 2015 Thats cool.. I wish they would bring the old Aztec (I think) version of football back where the losing team gets sacrificed to the gods. Yoshi89 5,293 February 3, 2015 Share February 3, 2015 (edited) This win gives the patriots 5 SB wins? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. They've won it four times. They lost twice to the Giants in the Belichick/Brady era and twice more before that. My dad was listening to the Mike and Mike show yesterday and they found a reason why the Seahawks called the passing play that set up the interception. They didn't let Marshawn Lynch run it in because they felt it was necessary to punish him for his relationship with the media. In a sense, disciplining one of their own players in the middle of a game meant more than winning. I'm glad it came back to bite them because there were other ways they could have dealt with a player who doesn't like the media. You just don't rob him of the opportunity to win games for your team, especially if that game is the freaking Super Bowl. Frostgage 7,975 February 3, 2015 Share February 3, 2015 All I've seen on the internet the past few days is people talking about how awful the playcall was. Can we give some credit to Malcolm freaking Butler for making an incredible play?? How he even got to the ball, let alone intercepted it is beyond me. All this from an undrafted, Division II rookie who didn't even play in the first half. 2 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. TailsIsNotAlone 3,695 February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 They've won it four times. They lost twice to the Giants in the Belichick/Brady era and twice more before that. Yep. It feels like the Patriots have been winning forever, but many forget that they were a pretty mediocre team for their first 35 years. They might make the playoffs here and there, and they had the honor of being blown out in Super Bowl XX by the '85 Bears, but they were never consistently successful until they were coached by Bill Parcells in the mid-90s, Pete Carroll (who now coaches Seattle) and later Parcells' protege Bill Belichick. 2001 was when they really took off and won their first Super Bowl; I remember it like yesterday too. Since that year they have missed the playoffs only twice ('02 and '08) and have never lost three regular-season games in a row. That's a dynasty, my friends. Crazy when you think about it. 1 "Human beings fascinate me Being just the way they are..."
Akemi Homura 7,680 February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 Ew. I can't believe the Patriots won. What a dumb call by the Seahawks. Everyone knows you are NOT supposed to throw the ball whilst you are only a few yards from the end zone. Pass it by hand to the biggest dude you have then ram it in. Plain n simple. I'm extremely disappointed HOWEVER it wasn't any of my teams losing to the patriots so I can't be too upset.. This win gives the patriots 5 SB wins? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Sure you can. How often does a simple slant route to a quick guy like Lockette fall incomplete let alone get picked? Carroll had no fear running it because that very play has always worked out. And for the people saying "you should have handed it off to Lynch", the guy has only scored from the one-yard line one times out of a whopping five. Belichick didn't call a timeout because that would allow the Seahawks to 1) Get into a proper allignment and 2) Get any play off. They got neither. Unprepared they relied on a pass that has worked before. Browner doesn't jam his man properly? That's a touchdown. Hightower doesn't make the tackle that put the ball on the one-yard line in the first place? Game's probably over. Belichick just trolled the hell out of the Seahawks organization with that last play. How he even got to the ball, let alone intercepted it is beyond me. All this from an undrafted, Division II rookie who didn't even play in the first half. It was essentially a two-man effort by Browner jamming Kearse (it was a designed pick play) and then leaving it up to Butler to jump that route ran by Lockette. Butler's actually studied this play hundreds of times in practice, only now he just translated onto the biggest stage in pro football! They didn't let Marshawn Lynch run it in because they felt it was necessary to punish him for his relationship with the media. That's not what happened at all.
TailsIsNotAlone 3,695 February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 That's not what happened at all. I've heard speculation left and right about why (if any particular reason) Carroll didn't have Marshawn run the ball on the first snap. From "he didn't like Marshawn snubbing the media" to "he wanted to give the moment of glory to his faithful QB, not the RB who might be leaving this spring." I take it all with a grain of salt. It was just a questionable play call that backfired. There doesn't have to be some sinister reason behind it. "Human beings fascinate me Being just the way they are..." He lets his guys do whatever they want, say whatever they way (as long as they play hard and well) as vehemently demonstrated by Sherman, Chancellor, Irvin, even Lynch as he grabs his crotch without reprimand, etc. I mean, come on, he's like the modern day John Madden. There's no doubt he did call for a Wilson pass at the end of the game but it wasn't out of spite for Lynch.
