Will the citizens of Equestria ever rise up and declare a republic?

And will we get to see Celestia, Luna, Cadance and Twilight beheaded ala the French revolution?

Of course not. Unless you are including headcanon and fanfiction. It simply doesn't fit within the established tone(s) of the show.

I don't see much need for it. The citizens of Equestria seem to be happy and/or content with the current ruling establishment. As Jeric said, it goes against the tone of the show as well. Not even the comics touched on that either.

As it stands, that's purely the realm of fanfiction.

Maybe Equestria already is a republic. A democracy need not be lacking of a monarchy to be considered as such. Celestia and Luna may be the de facto rulers, but this doesn't mean that they are the sole or absolute authorities. There are mayors after all, for example.

U wot m8

No, I don't think we will see characters beheaded on MLP

Of course though the concept of beheading apparently isn't foreign to Equestrians:

Another revolution thread, these are sprouting up more frequently, while this is good for a fan fiction, this may never become cannon for the show itself, for this a fantasy, where we can escape our reality. I have seen a real dictatorship before, I have been to Saudi Arabia, back in 1998, the rules were many and the punishment was swift, the authorities made sure all foreigners knew they were the power, little has changed about that country since my family visit in 1998, except for the people challenging the powers that are, Equestria does not appear to be like Saudi Arabia, with mass surveillance, paramilitaries, or civil oppression, the ponies seem contented with their leaders, they have lots of personal freedom, civil and gender equality, Equestria seems to have limited government, for the leaders let the ponies decide their careers and businesses, so if Equestria is a monarchy, it is not a totalitarian dictatorship, the Celestial sisters also appear to share power with local governments, like the mayor of Ponyville, or the sheriff of Applelosa. A republic can be just as dictatorial as a monarchy, the Roman Republic became an oligarchy prior to rule by the emperors, so it does happen, but there is plenty of revolution fan fictions with My Little Pony, some are smart, while others are violent, with bloody war, coup de tat and repercussions, these fan works delve into the darker rouses of our fandom, nevertheless, they can express themselves, but as long as the Royal Pony sisters respect the dignity of the rights of ponies, they have a place in Equestria, and in the hearts of ponies with friendship in their hearts.

Don't forget Spike Shining Armor, and Twilight's parents.

Anyways, it shouldn't happen because it will be too violent for younger viewers.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

Yeah, because this show will clearly do something like that.

Guys, let's keep things calm here. Abusive language will not be tolerated, and people shouldn't respond to it. Let's remember to report any instances of abusive language.

In regards to this a few posts were hidden. Let's keep our emotions cool and go on with the discussion.

Thank you. :)

I'll say this.  Even though Equestria is a monarchy (specifically, a Queendom or Princessdom), the Princesses really don't directly involve themselves in the affairs of the ponies all that much.  If they did, every time something even remotely bad took place, either they or the guards would be there as enforcers.  But you never see this.

To speculate a bit, they might have some kind of council or parliament that we have yet to see, probably run by nobles in Canterlot.  This is actually a very common occurrence with monarchies.  The royalty may have a lot of authority.  But they likely can't ignore what the members of the parliament say, or else they would start making enemies.  Numerous and powerful (or at least influential) enemies.

It must also be noted that if this scenario turns out to be true, we very well might see this in Season 5.

To answer the question though, based on the above information, I think it would be highly unlikely that the citizens of Equestria would ever revolt.

In my headcanon, they already revolted.

Because I doubt Discord´s "Tyranny" was a monarchy.

That would be far to boring.

No, instead, he had about two dozen comittees, parliaments, and other stuff, all chosen by the people, but no one did know exactly what they were for, and some even worked against each other or didn´t know the other ones existed.

The elections were complicated, strange, and just chaotic.

For example, the Post-President of the Not-So-Secret-Circle of Cabbage, Taxation, and Party Balloons was elected by writing the name of anybody you would like to become this president on either a banana, a peanut pie, or a wristwatch, and this stuff was then sent to the nominated ones.

The candidate who ate it all up the fastest became president.

Not surprisingly, the  princesses idea of establishing a proper democracy was met by denieance from the people.

The revolted to get rid of it, so why should they get it back?
