Firearms discussion!

Recommended Posts

Now, this thread is a little bit of an experiment. I couldn't seem to find any exactly like it, so here it is. (Mods, if this needs moved, deleted for some reason, etc, I just ask that you please tell me why.)

Anyhorse. Talk about firearms, in both manners of fact and opinion. Relate personal experience. Keep it civil, keep it secure (I would discourage pictures or discussion of ones currently owned firearms or other hardware, if they want to keep their anonymity with the matter.) Don't start debates that don't belong here. It's not a thread for heavy discussion of gun laws. If you want to rant or debate about why 9mm is better than .45 ACP or anything else just as trivial and to do with the core matter, go for it.

All in all, just be respectful, crazies and mentalgen. Have at it.

>inb4 moved to "Debate Pit"

Best firearm (Pistol) has to go to a Colt 1911 (.45 ACP, otherwise it's not a 1911) and the Berretta M9 (9MM MasterRace, love me some of that action.

Best firearm (Rifle) is a bit different, depending on whether you're talking about hunting or self defense. IMO, best all around gun has to go to the AR15, M4A1, and AK47 (Gotta love that 7.62). Hunting rifles are so numerous and plentiful (Redundancy, I know, I did that on purpose) that I don't have a favorite one of those.

Shotguns are fun too I guess. Not my jam, tho.

Ideal cartridge is the .40 S&W; .45 is just way too heavy and too rounds-limited, and 9mm is too weak. 10mm has too much kick, and .357, .44. and .50AE are too impractical, and ill-suited for semi-autos. I currently own a Ruger SR40C.

Actual firearms are divided into a philosophy called 1st type of cool, 2nd type of cool. 1st type is function, 2nd type is aesthetics. Honestly, the only handgun that ideally fits 1st type of cool is the Glock. Reliability, ease of use, and rounds count is perfect. Weapons like the M1911 are too heavy, too finicky, and too rounds-limited. Anyone who says they'd want to carry a 1911 to battle is either Arnold, or a fool.

The aforementioned all said, my ideal handgun is a Taurus PT92 if I need high-capacity with low weight. 17 rounds of 9mm, with ergonomic controls and grip, is best. If I need some better power a Glock 22 is next up in line, with the .40 Smith.

Rifles are a different breed. The AR-15 and its variants are too dirty, too finicky, cartridge-type limited. I do not tolerate pea-shooter cartridges like the 5.56, and would not ever use one in a battle. I'd be equally dead with no weapon as I would with a 5.56. However, .308 is too heavy for practicality, and 7.62x39 is too limited on range. The AK platform is ideal, but would need severe amounts of work to make the gun amiable to practical use. It needs ergonomic and accuracy upgrades 90% of the time. You'll never find the perfect rifle, so I'd take an AR-15 with the operating system of an AK chambered in .300 Black.

Shotguns? Mossberg 590A1. Nothing else matters.

Distance shooting? Bolt-action, .338 Lapua.

Now those are guns I'd want to go to war with, if I absolutely had to.

How about brands?

SIG? High bore-axis, high weight, high price. Wouldn't carry one. H&K? Mediocre triggers, high price, counter-intuitive controls. Wouldn't carry one. Springfields? Good. S&W's? Good. Ruger? Good, but not war-ready. Bullpup rifles? Good balance, poor triggers.

Revolvers and High-Points are not relevant for battle or carry.

Guns I actually want, for defense or fun?

Taurus PT92(defense).

FN49(fun).

Mossberg 590A1(defense).

Makarov PM(fun).

M1 Garand(fun).

Don't really want or care about anything else, despite my reverence of gun rights and our Constitution.

I love America!

When it comes to rifles, I prefer a gas-piston rifle, my experience with direct impingement has been dodgy, the M4 I used in the navy, had seen better days, the rifle barrel was worn and slightly warped, the gas tube was too small and would get fowled. So I have looked for some new gas piston rifles, one I particularly like is from the Czech Republic, from Ceska Zbrojovka, the CZ 805 Bren, it looks like a FN SCAR from the outside, but inside it functions like a HK G36, unlike the FN SCAR, the CZ 805 is a multi-calibre rifle from design, chambered for 5.56, 7.62 x 39, and 5.45 X 39, it can fire in semi, two round burst and full automatic, and the stock has options, folding or fully adjustable, and finally, the CZ 805 is bayonet compatible, plus the parts are not as proprietary as the FN SCAR, something that has bugged me with FN Herstal, you can use almost anything to make the rifle function from any gun shop. For handguns, I like a Czech handgun, the CZ 75 SP, it is adaptable for tactical situations, and is capable to be used by ordinary people, this is the pistol I recommend for anyone who is a beginner to shooting handguns, the recoil and muzzle climb is controllable and smooth, anyone can be taught pistol marksmanship with the CZ 75 and its variants.

Pssssht, for a pistol I'd go with a Five SeveN. 21 rounds in a mag and those rounds are specially made armor piercing ones to boot.

If someone else was paying for and providing the ammo then yeah I'd go for that, but only if I knew the bad guys were sporting low-level body armor. AP ammo is basically worthless against unarmored targets; velocity is so high it just kinda passes through with very little consequence. I need something with expansion if I'm going up against soft targets.

Having played many an FPS I know what weapon is best. First of all I believe that the SMGs are best guns because they're light and fire fast. One of my faves is the H&K MP7, which has a decent rate of fire and accuracy along with great iron sights.

MP7 Which (IMO) is best gun.
