If Celestia doesn't appear in the upcoming Season 5 premiere....

Well it happened, Celestia did not show up in the S5 premier, in all honesty I've never felt much attachment to her, I think she might show up in the finale though, maybe Starlight will try to steal her cutie mark.

Heck, what if Discord just so happens to be there in his Unicorn form; will she somehow steal his tornado Cutie Mark (A reality-warping Starlight... *Shudder.*)?

I really like Celestia because she has a guardian, motherly role for Equestria--and she reminds me of my mom a lot. :)

Even though she may not have a direct role with Twilight know as a mentor, I believe that she'll play major roles if Equestria itself is ever threatened by an external force (possibly Starlight Glimmer if she spreads her ideology far enough).

I also believe she can still provide comfort and guidance to Twilight and the other Mane 6 because they all look up to her fondly and respectfully. The ponies have sort of grown up now and don't need Celestia to be their impetus to bring them closer. It's like when you move out of the house. You'll still call your parents once in a while and you can't get their support and advice, but they won't always be around to ask you how you're doing and to be there with you.

She was not needed to tell the story in the first place so why bother including her. Why even bother to draw such an asinine conclusion because it did not fit your precious pattern especially since it is just two episodes out of 26 for Season 5.

Roles change with the times, and just because you think Celestia is useless at this point does not mean Hasbro and Studio DHX does.

I guess we'll see Celestia again when she's ready to make another non-speaking cameo or something. On the bright side, I guess McCarthy won't have a chance to knock her down again.

You do know McCarthy is coming back in the latter  half of Season 5.

However the only here I see trying to actively her knock her down is you, and not the staff.

I admittedly missed Celestia's presence in the premiere. However, if this is replaced by a Celestia-centric episode (or two), I certainly won't complain. I would prefer her to receive this form of attention anyway, it's long overdue.   :sunny:

The situation w Celestia reminds me of an old cartoon strip called "The Born Loser"  He was going "OMG, I'm being replaced by a machine!"  His boss says "Don't be ridiculous. No machine can do what you do.  You're being replaced by a button."

Celestia is being downsized for a map.

Celestia's original role was to be a guide/teacher/mother/mentor for Twilight Sparkle and to lead/protect Equestria, I believe. But as of now, Twilight doesn't really need guidance since she's a Princess with her own Kingdom now, then she and the other ponies and protect Equestria with the Elements of- I mean, rainbow friendship powers, haha. It's not that she's no longer important, but the Mane 6 now do what Celestia was originally supposed to do, I guess. It makes some sense, right?

Princess Celestia was not needed for the season 5 premiere, so she wasn't in it.

In fact, if the season premiers didn't have to include all of the Mane Six, it would have just included Twilight and Fluttershy. No offense, but the other four were useless. They didn't do anything. Basically, the season 5 premier was a Twilight and Fluttershy episode.

Princess Celestia has a lot of room for character development. She may not be Twilight's mentor anymore, but that doesn't mean she's useless. I see it like this. Characters, as well as people, are always changing. Saying that a character has no use is wrong. If someone in the real world suddenly lost a job they had for years, would they suddenly have no use? No. The same applies for a fictional character. Princess Celestia isn't Twilight's teacher anymore, but she's not useless. She was just not needed in the season 5 premier.

While I don't think Celestia is "Useless", I do think the show writers have to step back and realize that, if they don't want her to devolve in purpose and function, they NEED to try and fit her into the show a little better now that she no longer is Twilight's teacher.

For example, lets look at season one. Celestia had many other moments of bonding or interacting with charcters BESIDES twiliight. For example in bird in the hoof; excellent example of celestia featuring into an episode outside of being a quest giver or twilgiht's mentor. She had some nice pranking moments, and she even had a nice bit of interaction with Fluttershy at the end. We need things like that.
Essentially, unlink Celestia a bit from twilgiht, and try and branch her out in her relationships; have her talk with the other 5 some, celestia can be involved without twilight. The comics have been doing WONDERFUL job with this, showing her interacting as a teacher to spike as well in the FF, and her micron showcased her role as the headmaster of her unicorn school, an aspect of her that is incredibly ripe with potential for exploration.

If they don't attempt to evolve celestia with the changing times, they run the risk of her feeling like her role in the show is being eaten up or her position in the mane cast being removed. Heck, I know a good friend of mine who's favorite character is celestia, and he's really depressed lately with the amount of screentime and purpose she's gotten since S3.
