That's how I like to watch wrestling,

 

find one wrestler I'm familiar with and build my fandom from there by learning about everyone else the more I watch

 

or I play the WWE games and become a fan of wrestlers that way.

 

With WWE 2K17 for example,

 

I've become a fan of Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss by using them in multiple matches.

Yeah I learned about wrestling history through the old games. Haven't really felt the need to play the new ones though. 

 

As far as guys involved in the ROH classics that are still around today? Well coincidentally, ROH is having a decade of excellence tournament, featuring guys who've been w/ ROH 10 years or longer. So expect Christopher Daniels, The Briscoes, Jay Lethal, & Jushin 'Thunder' Liger.

I like old Alex Shelley's wrestling style, too & his Paparazzi Championship Series segments with Kevin Nash were

 

hilarious, IMO.

If I may comment on Kurt Angle for a moment. When he first started in the WWF back in late 99, I was always under the impression that on the surface he was supposed to fit the trope of the All American hero along the lines of Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and Bob Backlund.

 

Yet for some reason the fans were booing him from the get go. I'm guessing because it was the Attitude Era, the goody two shoes All American babyface image that Angle had was deemed as uncool for the times. Had this been any era before than he would have been cheered just like any other wrestler along those lines. But since this was the Attitude Era, where the heroes are stars who resemble those of barroom brawling, street fighting, badasses, who in NO WAY resemble role models. Kurt Angle is in NO WAY going to be cheered by that sort of crowd. 

 

So what do they do, they decide take the trope and give it a nasty twist to it. Make him cocky, arrogant, braggart who puts down others by telling the fans that the towns that they're in about their negative qualities and say "It's True, It's True." And the rest they say is history.

Recently rumors have been going around that because of the ever increasing popularity of prowrestling in the UK, the WWE is trying to get scottish promotion ICW, Irish promotion OTT and the London based PROGRESS promotion to sign a 3 year contract to get their shows on the WWE Network. Apparently, Triple H is willing to give each promotion 50.000 US Dollars each year.

 

It's quite interesting especially with ICW also being considered, because one of their biggest stars there is Drew Galloway, who is also an active wrestler on the TNA Impact Roster. Is WWE okay with showing TNA Talents on their Network? It will be interesting to follow that.

 on the Smackdown following the Rumble, AJ Styles announces he will his rematch clause at WrestleMania.

 

Then at WrestleMania, AJ Styles goes on to defeat John Cena & becomes

 

the new "face" of the WWE after the two shake hands.

I just had a thought:

 

What if John Cena defeats AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble &

 

 on the Smackdown following the Rumble, AJ Styles announces he will his rematch clause at WrestleMania.

 

Then at WrestleMania, AJ Styles goes on to defeat John Cena & becomes

 

the new "face" of the WWE after the two shake hands.

It'd be nice. Styles vs. Cena would be a solid event. The transition would be a healthy one, as Cena looks to be moving to part time status what with all his reality TV & movie deals.  Quality wise it'll be better than the match planned with Taker. 

 

But I'm betting that this will be blown off at Elimination Chamber. If Cena wins, he'll probably be fighting a fresh face at mania. 

 

Frankly I don't think even Vince knows who he wants to win. Reports are that he's changed his mind on the main event several times in the past few weeks. This is the guy who set up Rock/Cena a year in advance. And currently he's jumped from Taker/Cena to Taker/Roman to Taker/Braun to Taker/Joe to Roman/Balor to a Lesnar/Goldberg/Roman match. Nothing is in stone for once.

It's soon time again to rrrrrrumble my friends.

 

The Royal Rumble has always been my favorite gimmick match of all time. Promotions like Lucha Underground tried to kinda evolve it with Aztec warfare and while it's a cool idea, i still like the classic battle royal concept more.

 

Does anyone here have any predictions? This year, it's really open for me. I don't think it will be either brock or goldberg, because they will surely have their real one on one confrontation at Wrestlemania and Prince Devitt (Finn Balor. I am such a New Japan Mark. ) won't be cleared in time for the rumble. Alot of people say Undertaker and that might very well happen. But there are still some other matches hanging in the balance with him. Matches against John Cena, Prince Devitt, Braun Strowman, AJ Styles and Roman Reigns are all a possibility. Braun Strowman could also win, as there are plans for him to face Roman Reigns for the title and one name that is also thrown around is Samoa Joe, who is constantly mentioned to make his main roster debut in the rumble and winning it.

 

Call me crazy, but with this rumble and the title match between Styles and Cena this can become a really great show.

This maybe a long shot, but given what went down on raw, I think Zayn will win, and go on to challenge Kevin Steen (Owens. I'm such a Ring Of Honor mark) for the big red belt. The two have proven they can put on great matches. It would be a further step up on a rivalry that's spanned multiple companies, and it could be what Zayn needs to break through into the main event and become that authentic, likable good guy WWE have desperately needed since they shelved Danielson.

I *think* I heard Brian Zane say on this weeks "Who War it Better" that he thought a Raw wrestler would win

 

the Royal Rumble

 

because, they haven't been focusing on the Royal Rumble as much on Smackdown so, you may get your wish.

 

I could be completely wrong though as I don't watch either Raw or Smackdown.
