WrestleMania 35 was my favorite arena in WWE2K20 so hen WWE uses one giant LCD screen as a "stage" I think that looks awesome.

The SmackDown Live! arena was another favorite of mine and I really miss that logo and stage design.

I dunno. I'm the opposite. LCD screens bring class to a small show but venues above 5K should go more practical effects. I miss unique stage designs. NXT Takeovers had the right idea. NJPW has simple stages but each arena is so different that they're stages in of themselves, where as WWE arenas in the U.S. all look the same.

I miss the days when WWE had unique stage designs, too but it had to be really tricky to come up with 12 (Sometimes more.) unique stage designs

in the late 90's and early to mid 2000's.

WWE should just do what they did in the early days and just have a giant WWE logo on the wall.

I'd be fine with repeat designs. Backlash, Vengeance, The Bash, Unforgiven, No Mercy & Survivor Series pretty much all had the same designs year after year.

That's true. I think that SummerSlam did too for a few years.

I think WrestleMania should be the only one with unique stage designs every year.

I think the big four can get away with a new stage each year. It's just that no matter what's on the giant screens, they're still just screens.

They repeated SummerSlam for three years or something & the Royal Rumble has looked the same for the past couple of years, too unless,

I'm mistaken.

THe last two royal rumbles (with fans actually in attendance) used the same set roughly. It worked well at Minute Maid Park in Houston, but not so much at the Dome at America's Center in St. Louis.

I liked the Royal Rumble stage because of how simple it was.

Well, it worked well with Minute Maid Park because it took the concept of the wrestlers using the baseball dugouts as the entrances. It didn't really work at the Dome at America's Center because there is way more room for a bigger set to be used in that building.

Are sets really that big of a deal when all you really need for the Royal Rumble is a countdown clock? :dash:

It is to me. I like a nice, eyecatching set for all big 4 events. It makes sense for those 4 to have the sets that are the biggest and most gaudy.

All the early Royal Rumble's needed was a countdown clock. :oh_golly:

SummerSlam in particular reused the same logo for a LONG time.

Okay are we talking logos or stage designs?

I was talking about both.

SummerSlam used the same oval set for two years in a row and they used a similar design in 2002 for both RR and SummerSlam.

Okay now define cheap cause a giant LCD screen does not scream cheap.

Oh. I've only seen the dark ringside view and the stage with people in the way. Youtube videos are the only way I see Impact or AEW.

So, AEW Dark and a throwback clip from 2013.

I guess being too poor to afford an LCD stage bigger than most capitol buildings inspires creativity where you least expect it.

And we've got news out of pro-wrestling NOAH.

image.thumb.png.0afac8a89fce9a80089ea087763644b5.png

RVD will be making his return to a Japanese fed for the first time since before he was in ECW, and it's gonna be at the joint NOAH/DDT/TJPW show, the Cyberfight Festival. No word yet on who he'll fight. Part of me wants him to face Masato Tanaka. The ECW match up we surprisingly haven't gotten yet. Another part of me wants him to face Naomichi Marufuji. Two pioneers who love to kick people squaring off. Katsuhiko Nakajima would be a fine opponent in terms of kick boxers. Or we could go legend vs. legend and RVD battles MMA pioneer Masakatsu Funaki for the GHC national title. So many possibilities.

I thought Rob Van Dam retired. Maybe I just thought he was. :ooh:

I think he just takes breaks every now and then. IIRC he runs a comic book shop and is the chairman of a cannabis company.

You'd think RVD's body would be so beaten up that he'd have to be retired from wrestling by now. :scoots:

Not as much as you'd think. He hasn't been full time since 2007. Had a light schedule with Impact for 3 or 4 years. Got pushed for a few years when he made that WWE comeback. And has been back to part time since. I don't think he's wrestled since 2019.
