Have you never experienced the feeling of being born in the wrong era?

Besides the fact i never really get involded in other people groups, i often had the feeling that no one in world think like me, which should be fine I guess, but, in the same way it's hard to find someone to share with you same interests and maybe and just maybe, humanity would be better without some things of common use. This could sound kinda weird, but in my part i just see:

- People who cannot survive 5 minutes without a frying pan stick to the heard.

- People who soffers an evident lack of concentration while i'm sayin' something of interest, because another guy starts to talk about a stupid argument.

- Most of subjects around me don't understand a buck about consoles or pc but knows everything about politics and football (soccer)... I call them TV-lobotomized subjects

- Same subjects could talk to me, or the ones like me (on technical things) only when they have a problem using a pc or tablet. In worst cases they even don't know how to switch it on\off.

- Don't care about manuals or how some kind of "dailly" objects should be threated, showing up an high level of ignorance.

- Fools who spend enormous amounts of money\time for something really studip or stylish or to fix a problem than can be fixed with less more, starting from common sense.

Sometimes i just wish to be born on '60-'70-'80 to live more with less, meet people with more "criterias", enjoy fantastic real music, and discorver things that actually we now take for granted.

How about you fellas?

Rant time!

There is no such thing as being born in the "wrong" generation. You were born of your generation. It ends there. You would complain about all the stuff that bothers you in your life no matter what time you were born. The solution to your feelings are to suck it up, and not worry so much about petty inconsistencies with your lifestyle (just like the people you call "fools," do.) And no, this is not a personal attack on you, I don't even know you. Not even a little. But this "wrong generation" garbage has got to cease. It's another way people look for an excuse to complain about their lives. And most everyone is guilty of it in some form or fashion, myself included, but in my opinion it's wrong. Simply incorrect.

The only time I've ever felt that I would like to have been born in a different generation is when I hear people talk about the 'golden age' of consoles (which I missed because of my age) with Halo 1 and 2 and generally just early 21st century gaming. I guess that's something I wish I'd been there to experience but ah well, can't be helped. I just accept I'm part of this generation as sucky as it may be  :P

I never understood wanting to live back in the 60s/70s/80s, you have less to live with (including worse internet or none at all which means you wouldn't even be posting that post lol), there's less music genres to choose from, and god forbid you be gay, female, or black without creating some kind of problem.

But yes, that type of "i was born in the wrong generation why couldnt i have been born when people had less rights and there was less to do??" mentality totally isn't bad or anything.

But no, I haven't and hopefully never will.

I always tried to be pacient, spending my time to understand who was younger/older than me, but most of them are foolish and/or ignorant as i NEVER been at their age, an trust me, i'm not considering myself a smart guy. Strangely i got a good "feedback" with people older than me which has up to 30-40. Wait! I always be open-minded and open to suggestions, listening at persons who were more youger than me. Tryied to help other and improve myself, but most of people just don't want to hear, don't want to learn because it's more confortable look for someone who can fix problems instead of themselves, or as you correctly told me "to complain their lives".

I have, yes. I have a passion for 70s and 80s cars, music and movies. The era of the Muscle cars, heavy metal music big hair bands, and awesome Sci-Fi movies(Mad Max, Terminator, Star Wars). But being born in '89, I missed all that.

I was born in a country were technology was barely backward, so missed years playing on 16bit console without possibility to save my progress resulting no one game finished, in the meanwhile 32bit consoles already comed out from years. Yes, was a wonderful period, but when i finally understand whats going on it was late. While i finally bought a PSX, PS2 and Xbox comes out, luckyly were too expensive for most of people, so I "redeem" myself in time to enjoy low prices and second had stuff of 128bit generation.

THAT'S EXACTLY what i feel to have missed! Best movies, best cars, best music, the fun of discovering, the cinema, cultural-social-technological "boom" of those years.

@@Dingo_Dash,

Well, yeah, all of that's true, but going to a different time won't change the fact that you'll still have problems.

That's correct, but maybe you don't get in trouble as today, and for a person like me who prefers a rich dialog, learning and understanding and more "geniune" stuff. Some things (not all ot hem of course) where more simple in past.

I apreciate your point of view anyway.

Hi there Dingo_Dash. I've moved your thread out of Sugarcube Corner and into General Discussion as this is a broad topic and doesn't expressly relate to the Brony fandom.

Thank you, the original idea was to look at user's commentaries that don't feel confortable today but find something, through mlp series, from "old habits" or "old ways of being" which are disappearing but should be maintained for a better civil coexistence.

Sorry for the mess. :squee:

You know there has been times when i think about that, being in born in the wrong era. For example i was brought up to be courteous and be helpful when somebody needs it. But now looking at this day and age, courtesy has pretty much gone out the window. If i could bring back the days of old when my generations was brought up, i think it would make today's era a lot better. Don't take it the wrong way, not everybody is bad, there are some very respectful young people around today, but not as many as there should be in my eyes.

I would love to be born in 800-900 as I would take part in viking raids, feasts and old Norse mythology.

For anyone complaining about the awesome movies and music of the past, you can enjoy it right now, all of it. Through the power of the internet, all of this is accessible. I'm glad that I can actually choose the music I want to listen to. Even the most obscure genres have lots of content to be found and enjoyed somewhere on the web.

I think I was born in the perfect era actually. I was born in the birth of internet era, and hopefully I will be old enough to see technology develop beyond humans or maybe witness first contact with aliens. The 21st century might actually be the most interesting century of all time.

The only era I'd otherwise wish to be born in, if we ever get that far, would be the time we fully grasp the universe, how it works and how it started.

Nope, I never experience the feeling of being born in the wrong generation. Every generation has stuff I like and stuff I dislike. The trick here is to look at the positives of this generation. It surely can't be all negative.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

There's good and bad to all things. But people mostly take the bad things and overlook the good. I learned that lesson a long time ago. Thank god for life changing events.

I think that a whole lot. After all, I prefer older muscle cars than most cars, I prefer older music than newer music. Heck I rather would use a VCR than a DVD player or DVR. That's just me though.

Heck no! The 80s sucked and everything before it sucked. As a female minority, I simply don't want to deal with that.

As a person who start his life in nearly '2000, simply you can't understand (or don't see) how was life before all innovations and conforts 21th century took on everyone's life.

Sure, internet and his conforts, mobile phones (while use them for important things), low technology costs and any sort of electronic components. Computers and aided software. New materials and new ways to create, share or make business, less expensive hobbies and new ways to spend you free time where possible.

"As a person who start his life in early '2000, simply you can't understand (or don't see) how was life before all innovations and comforts the 21th century took on everyone's life." In other words you cannot express a totally negative judgement of my point of view if you don't lived before "changes"  that the 21th century made on society

Yes I can. I'm not a fan of not having many rights in the government. I'm not a fan of being blocked from the right to an education. Being attacked by people who have unfair laws on their side is not fun, and neither is living in a time when enslavement is so darn common. I don't want to deal with the plague. I don't want to be around during the cold war, and I definitely don't want to be there when disco's around. I don't like disco xP

Anyways, I never said it's bad for you, or anyone, to like a time period prior to the 21st century. That never left my mouth. I just stated that I didn't like any time period prior because that's my preference.
