Alicorn Mane six could happen

Hah, but we already got the Changelings origin (corrupted magical pool combined the DNA of blood drinking insects with Unicorn bones in a treep growing inside the pool to produce the changelings)

Don't remind me of that. I still hope for a better changeling origin in the show.

Their purpose for alicorn ascension could be them being the elements of harmony made flesh. I have no better ideas. :-D

I kind of hope not. Seeing each member of the mane six as an Alicorn would make them too overpowered as a group and make the group less diverse as a whole.

If they became alicorns at the end that would keep people interested till the end. But if they do become alicorns in the end that could reduce the lifespan of the fandom post-end of the show. Fanfiction will lose a lot of creativity. If they become alicorns at the end it would be a decision Hasbro made to be able to continue selling merchandise after the end of the show without regard to the fanbase.

Think how many fans leave depends on how the transition to alicorn status happens, and when.  if we draw this out a long time, it could work out really well!  If the finale is the movie, this fandom will implode, yes.

Not sure why fanfiction would lose creativity.  Seems like creativity would be naturally encouraged what with a major change to the main characters being installed: change in fanfiction might feel mandatory to some writers.  In a good way! hopefully.

As they've been doing, the creators of the show will work hard to keep the show interesting and friendly to its existing fanbase, while helping Hasbro make bank off tacky toys.

I personally hope they all ascend. They are definitely deserving of having more than a stained-glass mural of themselves in a castle when Twilight has accomplished... not much more than them for demi-god status.

"Time is just an illusionary factoid that all natural things are bound to. It has the power to crumble even the mightiest of mountains into little more than dust, yet if it is an illusion, why is this so? Because people waste a lot of time, only wishing they had more. Little do people realize an inescapable fact: Time governs those who wish they had more of it. By wishing you could use it better, you govern time, and you can get all the time you'll ever need." — Starfall, Quillwaver

I don't like the idea of all of them becoming Alicorns. Not because I don't like the idea of them being Alicorns, but I think it would make the whole idea of Alicorns kind of cheap. It would make Twi being an Alicorn kind of meaningless.

The other 5 are there to remind Twi that even though she is a powerful Alicorn, she still needs friendship to save the day (I got kind of cheesy there)

Last time I've checked, FiM is about slice of life and character development, not a DBZ series where everypony has fighting skillz

Why does everyone still insist Twilight has become immortal? No in series reference ever hinted at this. Nobody is claiming Cadence is immortal. Isn't it possible that Celestia and Luna were born as immortals? If not that, isn't it possible that Celestia's magic was powerful enough to make them immortal while she waited for more Alicorns to arise?

Because she's so TALL. Height is to longevity in the poniverse.

No, but, unless am missing something, think you're right.  Sisters could've been immortal from the start, sure.  Suppose immortal Twiley is popular/possible, though, because….well, why not?  We know so little.  Isn't it just as likely Celestia and Luna were born immortal as becoming an alicorn makes one immortal, as far as we know?  And immortality is so fun, fun to think about and talk about, that would make it a popular idea, easily more than anything else.  Personally, if I had to pick an answer (And without having to, I wouldn't. Haven't.) would say none of them are immortal, just very long-lived, Twilight included; enough to make her nicely grief-stricken when she outlives her mortal, non-alicorn pals.  Because she's tall.  Whoo, guesses.  we know nothing.  or we do and i know nothing.

Well, if we pay attention to Twi's flashback with Cadance foalsitting her, she obvisouly has grownup since then. Is unknown if that means if alicorns reach adulthood at the same rate as other ponies while slowing their aging after adulthood, or ascended alicorns age normally. And no, Alicorn-born ponies aren't immortal either, but they DO have a longer life span, as mentioned in the journal

The "normal" immortality rule seems to apply to celestia and luna, specifically where one reaches adulthood and then stops aging, so they're born a child, age normally, and then hit middle age or youth before they stop aging. (like the greek gods, or Highlander immortals).

If we look at the journal of the two sisters, celestia states that alicorns age slower than mortals (hence her getting angry at Princess platinum making fun of her for not having a cutie mark, since she's probably older than platinum), so its possible they might just try and retcon celestia and luna into being long lived and not "technically" immortal.

Eh, I don't get that vibe at all myself; there doesn't seem to be an explicit purpose behind the other 5 in relation to Twilight as an alicorn :P

Her ascension was due to her learning from the others, but there's no purpose after that besides being good friends with her.

We guardians of harmony now *slaps random armor and spikes onto all the characters*

I think that the mane six becoming alicorns should explicitly be an "End game" thing. I don't think it should be a Mid life thing for the series, but would rather work best as a grand finale for everything.

Besides, its not like we haven't had villains who have been far above the weight class of alicorns before (Discord and Tirek), since celestia and Luna have always needs the mane six to fight their fights for them since the EOH is far greater than alicorn magic.

If they become alicorns at the end it would be a decision Hasbro made to be able to continue selling merchandise after the end of the show without regard to the fanbase.

I don't see the issue; its not like they'd leave the franchise/series lying fallow, they'd either follow it up with another generation, a reboot or a timeskip with a new cast.

Even if it reached an "end of the line" conclusion, they'd keep things moving in another way.

Well, not directly because she is an alicorn, but the point of the show is that friendship is magic. I think if they were all alicorns, the point of the whole "friendship is more powerful than anything else" theme would be sort of defeated. They could just be like "Hey [insert villian], we've got 6 Alicorns (9 if you include the other princesses)! You know, the most powerful type of pony." I mean, they've established that Alicorns are super powerful. The power of just 3 alicorns combined was equal to Tirek when he was all juiced up on, like, all the pony magic in equestria. But guess what they had to use to defeat him? Friendship, because just raw power wasn't quite enough. That's the whole point of the show. I just think that all of them becoming alicorns would make the whole "friendship is magic" theme less important.
