Itit's been a bad year for the mane 6 and the fillies . Recently their lives just haven't been going well and they don't know how to explain it . They're all looking for somepony to blame . Celestia sees her subjects going through this time of depression and decides give them advice through a lesson . She tells them that they all have had had past lives . Non equestrian past lives telling them of their deeds . The groups will go on adventure to find themselves and their past selves . One question remains in their minds will they end up with same fates as their former lives or can they rise above this ? We'll see. The past lives and their deeds as well as the pasts and origins behind the cmc and 2 certain bullies as they discover what it means to be who they are .

It's an interesting idea you've got there, to seek answers in the past. (But don't put it on somepony unless he's really the blame, don't go picking random scapegoats, ok?   )

 

Anyway, their 'past selves', as in 'in another life'? If so, probably some humans. I'd say some normal teenage girls with similar characteristics, but they're not exactly the same. Give them different names, appereances, a bit different character. For example, Twilight's past: make her nice and bookish, but socially awkward, because (for example!) past twilight never got the tutoring of the equivalent of Celestia, so she only cared for books and not for friendship. 

 

But this is only an example, of course, ^^)

I like you idea . Some past lives will be ocs. Others will be canon characters from elsewhere . One question though what do mean by " random scapegoats"? "

Like, in the middle ages, they´d pick out innocent people that were supposed to be witches, which, of course, they weren´t.
