gaming Full games vs DLC Content

Never implied you were wrong, sorry if i gave that impression. Its just that it drives me crazy when they can't even think before they "try" to make something for DLC content, its like they were drunk when they made half the stuff last year. Its usually  not even a full year before we see the DLC available; that just says they never even tried. If they even had one bit of sense left, they would take more time to come up with better ideas and release it the next year.

YOu can't make something just like that and expect it to succeed, it doesn't work that way.

It was just a misunderstanding, I guess. Unfortunately, I don't have an extended opinion, because I don't play a lot of games with DLC. I think it just depends on the game though. Like I said, Killing Floor is a game that doesn't rely on DLC to be successful even though you can get DLC for it, so I see no problem with it. It's the games that are basically useless blank slates until you spend $50 on DLC that drives me crazy. It's just a cash grab, and I'm always surprised to see people actually playing them.

How do you feel about the games that are only about 3 hours long? Like destiny was? You only got about maybe... 20 missions? but hardly any story at all; all they tell you is that the traveler is fighting the darkness and that you have to stop it. Kind of cheesy if you ask me.

I'd rather have full games than DLC. I don't like DLC that's locked onto the disc and the developers are asking you to pay for any new characters, costumes, skins, weapons etc.

I don't mind DLC that adds to the games story like Undead Nightmare, Harley Quinn's Revenge, Infamous First Light and more.

One thing that i don't like which i'm starting to see more and more is pre order DLC..

I haven't played Destiny, so I can't really say. I don't mind short games though, and I think it depends on the game, as with the other scenario with DLC. I guess you could consider Binding of Isaac to be a short game, though there are a lot of characters to unlock and replay the game with, and I would consider that an excellent game. It's short but there is a lot of detail in the plot.

In regards to DLC, I ask myself two key questions:

1. Is the game worth the asking price in its vanilla form? Whatever DLC there is, no matter the price or release date or location, is excluded from this question. If I feel that the game, not the DLC, is worth the money, I'll buy it. The only exception is free DLC. I'll count that.

2. Once I own and have played the vanilla game, then I look at the individual pieces of DLC, and ask which ones, if any, are worth their asking prices. If they are, I'll buy them. If not, then I won't. Simple.

Gamers are pretty entitled these days. They feel that they should have every last thing the developers worked on as part of the game. I honestly don't care if content is "ripped out" and sold as DLC, just as long as the core game has everything it needs.

If it's locked on the disc I'm betting it's not complete. Ideas that they had but didn't finish before the game was released and any DLC you buy is mostly code that completes and adds it into the game.

I've seen people get up in arms about how they're holding content on purpose for the sake of getting money when it's probably still in development, quality testing and tweaking.

My main issue with DLC is when devs/publishers try to sell you something for a good chunk of the original game's price and it is not close to being worth that much. Season passes are a good example of this and are a common occurrence in many games now.

Take this for example, the new Mortal Kombat X that just released.

The game itself costs $59.99 for a total of 24 characters (not counting Goro), each with 3 skins a piece.

Now, In this game, you have a Kombat Pack for $29.99, this will come with 4 new characters with 3 skins a piece and some bonus skins for already existing characters.

Let's break that down. For $60, in the base game, you get 24 characters. That is $2.10 per character.

With the Kombat Pack, you get 4 characters. That is $7.50 per character.

Now of course a couple of these characters are licensed, sure, I get that, but that still means the two non licensed characters are more than triple the price of the characters of the original game. Not to mention, in the original game, you get story, challenge tower, and all of that content ALONG with the 24 characters, for $60. So for $30, you are getting nowhere near the amount of content for half the price.

This happens a lot with map packs and stuff, like $15 for a map pack which is a quarter of the full game's price. So that stuff bothers me. When the DLC is done well and priced accordingly, then I have no problem with it, but that does not happen too much now.

I understand that games are getting more and more expensive to make, I just wish publishers would take a less greedy approach to it.

The reason i don't like DLC, is because it makes the game pay to win. Warface failed because you had to pay for the best weapons, which should be available. But now we have Destiny, who're doing this exact thing with dlc's. Games should be full, not half assed.

I feel i have been ripped off; the games now aren't worth $60 you pay for them; they're unfinished titles. So the DLC's are exploitation attempts, and its working. The game industry has been digging its own grave for years.

DLC in my eyes should follow the XCOM: EW model, add a load of new cosmetics along with the new maps, classes, missions and enemies; all this in one DLC, after a few months/a year after the game has been released.
