No. That is way too excessive. RD is a hero of Equestria, that's not something they're gonna forget to acknowledge. Besides, a city of clouds probably can be repaired in no time at all, and winter coming a little early is not the end of the world. People are blowing this out of proportion because RD is a target of unfair over-criticism these days, while the other mane 5 and even Spike get a free pass for their stupidity.

Double standards.

Because of all the irrational hatred RD gets, I half expected an option where Rainbow Dash would have her wings cut off and the wings turned into cupcakes in a "mild" version of "Cupcakes". Yes, she deserves punishment, I wont dispute that, but some of you guys seem like you want to torment her.

I know, but it's probably the most advanced psychiatric treatment they have in Equestria. Plus, it would serve her right even if it caused negative psychological effects, think of it as extra retribution.

I think it was weird that RD got off scott free for what she did, but a fucking lobotomy? There is a reason people don't do that anymore. RD is not a violent psychopath, a lobotomy is way past retribution.

All she did was cause property damage. Let her pay a fine,do some community service, and fix the factory. Anything more is excessive and unnecessary.

Cut off her wings

Thus making my fanfiction canon

I'd like for characters to actually be punished for their actions for once

You really think they're gonna do that to a pony who's helped save them all on multiple occasions in the past? A small fine, and maybe some work suspension would be perfectly acceptable here.

Seriously, the 3 people who voted worse here are the ones who need to be incarcerated.

I just thought of something. Twilight and the rest of Rainbow's mane six friends discovered what she did, since she emerged from the giant snowball. I think Rainbow succeeded in evading security in Cloudsdale though. I also think the Princess of Friendship would be willing to look the other way and not report it. Let the weather factory engineers write it up as "metal fatigue". Like I said in an earlier post. I doubt that repairs would be costly or time consuming on machinery that is powered by magic. Twilight herself could go lend a hoof and set things right in a few moments.

This.

My view, and I apologize for sounding like an elitist here, but it needs to be said: quite often theme and symbolism trump specificity and granularity of narrative. We see this used to great effect in some of Steinbeck's works. In other words, Dashie facing any punishment would not serve the story being told so it should not be done. It's fine if the viewer, as a collaborator contributor to the work,  wish to imagine an non presented punitive recourse being issued, but such an outcome being presented in the episode would have been absurd and plainly bad story telling.

Must be extremely wealthy if essentially repurchasing the entire city on multiple occasions after total or near total destruction is considered affordable.

To be honest, as far as Celestia would be concerned, Twilight (and her continued loyalty) would be a far more important asset to her than Ponyville, and some measly sums of money she would have to invest to fix the damages caused by her student's (to-be-an-Alicorn-Princess) antics to the backwater town.

Sure, slap her on the wrist and do the whole disapointed look thing, but ultimately it's more important to keep Twilight happy and unhestitant about stepping forth and saving the whole of Equestria/world - again - than raise too much of a fuss about her very occasional misdeeds.

Hell, the whole Ponyville may have well been Celestia's test-bed for Twilight so she can work out most of the kinks before handing her the crown, in which case it all falls under unfortunate but perfectly acceptable losses suffered in the process of molding Equestria's next princess. Long term investment and all that :smug:

I don't really think it's necessary. Besides, there have been instances where Ponyville gets destroyed and they rebuild quickly. There have also been many instances where a character destroys Ponyville and got no consequences for it and no one batted an eye. So why are people only now doing it? Oh yeah, it's Rainbow Dash. And people love unfairly critiquing Rainbow Dash.

Considering the run-time of the episode there is only so much they are going to be able to fill-in. As it stands I really have no wish to actually see punishment levied on Rainbow after the events of the episode. Could something happen off-screen? Maybe, but while Dash's actions were rash, she has a certain importance to the well-being of Equestria that if anything were levied, Celestia may see to it that the harshness of any punishment is rolled back some, at least.
