Hello! I am doing a class project where I am exploring the culture of the online community of My Little Pony. If you are interested in answering a series of questions I would love your help.

 

This is a community I am very interested in and would love to know more about the personal stories behind your introduction to MLP and your experience with the community. If you are interested in answering some questions you can email me at morgan.walkervisuals@gmail.com

1. Tell me about your first experience with the online My Little Pony Community – did you feel welcome when you started to interact on the message boards? Is there a story to go along with this?

2. What brought you to the online community, what things were you looking for?

3. Have you met anyone in person from the online community? If so, tell me about that experience.

4. What is your best memory or experience related to My Little Pony in general? Describe this in detail.

5. Is there a community in your city or town, outside of the one online, where you can interact with others who have this same interest? 

6. How often do you log on to the message boards? About how many times per week and how many hours would you say you spend there?

7. What is a typical conversation like with a fellow Brony or Pegasister? Do you interact and talk about things outside of My Little Pony? How do you interact?

8. Tell me about a time when you turned to this community to help you through a hard time.

Well, I'd like to help! 

 

1. Tell me about your first experience with the online My Little Pony Community – did you feel welcome when you started to interact on the message boards? Is there a story to go along with this?

 

I felt really welcome here, since there's a topic for it after all, and all kinds of people go there to welcome new members! I'll welcome new people myself, sometimes.

 

2. What brought you to the online community, what things were you looking for?

 

Well, when I first started watching mlp, I didn't want anyone to know about it, but I thought I would just find a brony website and talk to people there, and it worked!

 

3. Have you met anyone in person from the online community? If so, tell me about that experience.

 

Nope, I've never met anyone on here in real life.

4. What is your best memory or experience related to My Little Pony in general? Describe this in detail.

 

Well, I have one that happened just yesterday. On Saturday I went to a convention (Not an MLP convention, just a regular one.) and bought a Derpy Hooves pin (they were out of Rainbow Dash ones.). Yesterday I realised it was "Mad Fan Monday" at my school and we had to wear something relating to a team or tv show or something, so I decided I would wear it, but only let my friends see it somehow. After a few friends saw it I realised no one actually cared that I liked MLP, and not only that, but a few of my friends are bronies as well! Before yesterday I thought that it was some big secret and if anyone found out about it they would laugh at me and hate me.

 

5. Is there a community in your city or town, outside of the one online, where you can interact with others who have this same interest? 

 

Well, there's no real group at my school or anything, but a couple of times I was with a few friends and joked about being "The Herd" or "The Pony Patrol"

6. How often do you log on to the message boards? About how many times per week and how many hours would you say you spend there?

 

I usually log in every day, and I spend maybe 3-4 hours on mlp forums, I'm usually doing something else and checking my notifications every once and a while, and sometimes refreshing and seeing the most recent topics (That's how I found this one!)

 

7. What is a typical conversation like with a fellow Brony or Pegasister? Do you interact and talk about things outside of My Little Pony? How do you interact?

 

Well, sometimes we'll have arguments over "best pony" or something like that, but if they watch some other thing I watch, then I'll talk about that as much or almost as much, depending on what it is. For example, I wouldn't spend too long talking about a song we both like, but if they watch doctor who, then there's a lot of conversations based on that.

 

8. Tell me about a time when you turned to this community to help you through a hard time.

 

Well, I haven't had much bad happen to me since I joined mlp forums, but it really has helped me be alright with everyone knowing I'm a brony.

 

9. What are a few words to describe the community of My Little Pony? 

 

Well, it can be way different depending on what website you're on. I think this is the nicest part of the brony community I've ever seen, but I still have war flashbacks about 4chan bronies...
