web Genuine vs ungenuine

We pretty all much go on Youtube from time to time. Some watch gaming vids and others comedy. But one thing you heard people talk about is if a Youtuber in doing Youtube for the money or not. Some Youtubers are genuine and are doing it for the craic and are suprised they are so successful in their youtube career. An example of this kind of Youtuber is Jacksepticeye. In pretty much every Q&A vid of his, he talks that is gets annoyed when people say he's doing it for the money, etc, and he a decent guy.

I can't really find a good example of a Youtuber doing it for the money but I think Tyler Oakey is one. At one point, he definitely did it cause it was fun but now I'm not sure.

I don't know what going on with Pewds, by the way.

So, discuss, I guess.

Much as I hate to say it, I sometimes get the feeling that Rhett and Link are doing it largely for the money.

Of course, now that I say that out loud (or rather on a keyboard), I can't really think what's wrong with that. It is pretty much their career, after all, so it's quite to be expected that they'd be in it for the money. Doesn't necessarily mean they're not genuine.

Really, I can't think of any YouTubers off the top of my head that don't seem pretty genuine. Although I don't know all that many YouTubers....

Quite a few youtubers these days really depend on their youtube money, and to be honest, they put a lot of effort and time into their videos, they should be allowed to make money from it, no question.

I would not even care if some of them started youtube just for the money, as long as the content they provide is entertaining and high quality it means they put effort into it and then they should get their money.

But what I hate is when people are really all-in for the money. I see this chage on a big german youtuber (Gronkh) lately.

He has been doing more and more livestream let's plays, which means he has to put less effort into actually making the video, he just streams on twitch and exports to youtube. Then in his streams he, ofc, takes donations and on youtube he mostly has the 30 second non-skippable ads enabled...

It's things like that that piss me off.

I am a youtuber myself, I make tutorials, gaming videos and vlogs and yes, I do have ads on my videos and I can quite use the money it is generating (it's in pocket money range really...) but those non skippable ads are just super annoying, which is one reason I never use them, even though I could make 4 times the money off of them...

It's capitalism at it's finest again, build a monopoly, increase the price (or the ad amount and lenght) and lower the efforts of production...

I ain't got anything more to say...

„I shall be quiet as a calm sea. Which is... not... very quiet.“

„This is intolerable!“

„Even combat is a partnership... for a little while.“

If the YouTuber in question doesn't cater constantly to their fans, doesn't conform to the norm, and keeps creating original content about things that they enjoy doing then they are being genuine.

If they do the exact opposite then they are being disingenuous imo.

Money is great and all but it's nothing to sacrifice your credibility for.

I go on Youtube largely for gaming/music, and I used to LOVE Game Theory and Matpat... but now, yeah, I feel like it's gotten a bit too much about showing off. If you watch his "Draw my life" video, it was actually always about getting money, though. X3 I just feel lately his videos have gotten lower quality...

still love his channel, though.
