Hey everypony!

 

I got assigned a project in my 11th grade AP english class just the other day, and after carefully defining the requirements for the paper and presentation and then going over it with the teacher, I have the topic of My Little Pony and related memes and fanbase as a research paper. As much as I know about this wonderful show and the amazing bronies, I dont have all the proper research required to make this legitimate in the eyes of my school. I'm looking for articles, news casts, interviews, statistics, graphs ect. ect. ect! If you've got some information that I could site under a 'reliable source', which often means mainstream in my school, but everything will help, then send it on to me on the forums, or at my email - Authetius@gmail.com. Unfortunately I have nothing to offer any who help me, but maybe I'll figure something out.

 

Also, I'm considering putting together a survey and interviewing bronies other than myself and my classmates. I wish to make this accurate and interesting (and i want to get an A).

Interviewing? Why not interview this entire forum? I'm sure we'd all be more than happy to help you out. There have been a few newspapers detailing the MLP fanbase, I don't remember their exact location, but I know they were posted on EqD.

 

I am willing to be interviewed. Just say the date and time and I'll tell you if I can make it.

Also you could set up a poll on a thread to interview ponies :P

This one was in New York Observer some time ago. It was pretty complete.

 

There are a few articles about bronies from newspapers floating around the internet. Try to look for those.

You could also try to look for interview with the MLP staff. (I remember seeing one with Jayson Thiessen once, it was really interesting)

Purple Tinker, the organizer of BroNYCon, did a detailed demographic study of bronies some time ago to try and determine how great a demand there was for adult-oriented pony merchandise. Was a bit of an eye-opener when I first saw it, though it's an independent study rather than a professional one. Still, probably worth a look: http://purpletinker.com/projectmerch/results/

I remember watching a professional presentation on the marketing of MLP FIM several months back. I just found it on Equestria Daily. It is about 25 minutes long, but I think you may be able to find some good stats on the growth of the fanbase from it.

I'd probably be way too embarrassed to use My Little Pony for a school article. But I am writing a review for my own personal blog which I'm treating with as much respect (probably more) than I would a school article.

 

I would gladly help you in anyway I can.

If you put together a survey, send a copy out my way if you don't end up posting it in public.

 

And do post the final product here once everything is said and done. :lol:

 

I'd probably be way too embarrassed to use My Little Pony for a school article.

I honestly wish that I were still in high school just so I could do a school report on it, I used to love doing papers and presentations on completely off the wall subjects, if only to drive my instructors absolutely batty.

 

In senior year one of my teachers made the mistake of allowing us to do an persuasive presentation on any subject of our choosing. They meant for us to do serious subjects; I instead made a satirical argument for my sanity, using a half-yelling voice filled with passion and grand, sweeping hand gestures. She hated it, and me.

 

But, in the end, was forced to give me perfect marks.

Thanks for all the replies everypony! I hope more help will come and that when I do actually get a survey out in the future, some of you will help me get more people to answer so I'll get the best results possible.

 

I do plan on putting together all my results and sources and putting it together in a large source for anypony else that might want to write a essay too. It's surprisingly hard to track down the articles one read months ago XD

 

Also, I will be interviewing random bronies to get some results and will attempt to contact some of the more famous bronies and people on the crew, though I'm not to optimistic about getting answers but ya never know.

Entirely possible, as soon as i figure out how to poll people, and I get further into the actual project and figure out what kind of info would be useful, I'll put up a poll and post it to all the forums and websites i can get my hands on.

Thanks for the article, and if there was anything I'm sure of, its that the bronies are the most amazing and helpful group online.

 

I wonder if Know Your Meme lists it's sources. If it does, then it would be a nice resource to use for a paper such as this, given that its article on FiM is so comprehensive.

 

Know Your Meme was actually first place I went to for info, but for some reason I didn't think to look for their sources and just took their word for it. Now that I look, there are sources and that makes Know Your Meme that much more acceptable to my school.

unfortunately the only one i could think of and find in a clip of some sort was Stephen Colbert, which I immediately downloaded for use in a video of some sort in my presentation that I will put together later on.

Thanks for the article, another that I haven't heard of! I knew coming to this forum would help! I doubt i could get an interview with anyone substantial but I always try just in case i get lucky. If you stumble upon that interview sometime, give me a shout.

Thanks a lot for this one! Statistics are golden when it comes to the teachers I get stuck with. (I also couldn't help but laugh at the 5th slide where people answered 'other' for gender).

Now why would one be embarrassed to report on My Little Pony? I'm personally psyched for this project, mainly because if I've judged the people in my class correctly, I should be able to get a few to join the herd (two more and we have enough to start a club! We already got a sponsor too =D)

 

Also, I got a fellow bronie betting 20 bucks against me doing it, so Ill get money too! :lol:

I would like to add that I have done an essay for my school on bronies. Particularly, interactions between bronies and other bronies/pony haters/neither of the two, both on and off the internet. Checked the grade I got on it: 85%.

 

If I had the chance to redo it, I would ask for so many personal experiences from this community. I haven't had any worth mentioning. :C
