I'm guessing this was to encourage children to get off their smartphones and computers and read books. I feel that I had a falling away from books as well. However from the recent episodes she seems to have a falling away from books as well. Anyone else feels this way?

I think it was to show that "nerds" can also be "heros". And that knowledge=power.

For the record, I have the "Journal of the Two Sisters", the "Journal of Friendship", and recently the "Elements of Harmony" as E-books. ...and I plan on reading more on my tablet.

With that, I have also bought a hard copy of "Journal of the two Sisters" for my five year old niece (who recently got into reading because of 'read it and weep". She loves Dash)

Chicks that like to read books are awesome!

I highly doubt that, I'm more inclined to thing the "nerds can be heroes" approach. Lauren in part put her together like that to show that you can still be nerdy and into girly stuff and be awesome. That's the whole reason of the M6 archetypes in the show, Twilight's nerdyness is just one of the archetypes the kids can relate too.

I feel like it has nothing to do with getting kids off of technology, but more with the mane 6, each pony has a different personality. It can easily show that any type of girl, no matter the personality, can be strong and be a hero.

Rainbow is athletic and confident, Rarity likes fashion and is also confident in her own femininity, Pinkie Pie is hyperactive and loves to laugh, Applejack is a tomboy who likes to rough around and work, Fluttershy is shy yet strong on the inside, and Twilight Sparkle is nerdy and highly intelligent. No personality is better than the other and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. Twilight just happens to be intelligent and enjoy learning/reading; a personality type that some girls may be able to relate to.

I think that she just really likes to read.  Done.  Nail on the head.  You're welcome.  As does Rainbow ever since the events of "Read It and Weep" (provided it isn't a Twilight-authored guide to griffons xD ).

That could be part of it as that was obviously the message of the episode Read it and Weep but it is also to show that it is okay to be a little bit "nerdy" as well of course being a major part of Twilight's character. We havent seen it as much in more recent episodes but is still in fact there.

I thought this thread said About Twilight's obsession with her looks.

Well books=knowledge right? Knowledge = power right? How can you blame Twilight for her obsession it's not like it is a bad thing :P.

I think you're right but I also think it's related to the shows theme(fantasy). When it comes to magic, most fantasy, is known for that magic comes either naturly or by knowledge, sometimes like in mlp, it's both. So I think despite her personal interest in Books, it also comes from her magic training, she's from the beginning thout that learning comes through hours of practise and reading a lot.
