Skyla smiled and listened to the conversation, most of which flew over head. But, she could pick out the main piece, a talk about a place named Ponyville, and there was one thing on her mind that she really wanted to know. She waited for a lull in the conversation, then turned to Draco to ask.

 

"Do you think I could stay here? There's a lot I could do, and I don't think i'm really ready to leave yet..."

"Do you think I could stay here? There's a lot I could do, and I don't think i'm really ready to leave yet..."

Draco looked down at her and smiled nodding. "Of course you can." He said softly. "I said you are all welcome to stay as long as you need to, and I meant every word of it of course. My home is your home as long as you want it to be my dear." He added kindly with a gentle smile before looking at the other two. "that goes for you two as well, though of course i would never force you to stay if you didn't want to do so."

"Well frankly, what other choice do we have? All of our worldly possessions, any personal fortunes we've amassed, are back on earth. Is it worth going back at this point to regain it all. Nope, not with what I've seen and experienced." Akane replied. "So I for one, will graciously take your hospitality, especially since it's rent free.  Homelessness is rarely a good start to anything, let alone reincarnation in another dimension." She said as she walked back into the bathroom. 

 

She saw the blood still in the sink. She checked behind her. Coast clear. She outstretched a wing to the sink, and wiped the bottom of it with one of her tips, coating it in Skye's blood. Akane was drawn in here for a reason, and it reinforced a thought she had has the moment she saw herself in a mirror. Something that Draco couldn't answer. Was she a vampire? She stared back into her own blood red eyes. "Welp, there's one really fast way to find out!" She thought as she stuck her wing tip into her mouth & sucked on it. 

 

And then the taste struck her. She looked back into the mirror, catching sight of her own wide eyed expression. "Sweet lord Halford." 

 

"I am."

"now, if you are still tired you are more than welcome to go back to bed, as for myself I will be down making breakfast if anypony is hungry you are more than welcome to come and join me." he said then knocked on the bathroom door. "that goes for you too Akane. i'm making food down in the kitchen." He said then turned walking downstairs and to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Akane sat on her haunches, pondering this new revaluation, wiping Skyla's blood off the bathroom sink and licking it off her wing tip. "So let me get this straight. Vampires exist in this candy colored land of pastel horse folk? And I'm one of them? Am I technically a Vampire even? I didn't burn in the sun light and thank Halford I didn't sparkle. Can I transform into a swarm of bats? Do I have mind control powers? Do I have a reflect- no that's a stupid question!" She said glaring at herself it the mirror. "Am I just vampiric i nature and not in power. Am I just a glorified vampire bat. There's is something, I dunno, letting down, about that possibility. Am I just a horse like everybody else, just can feed off blood too?"

 

She sat there, lost in her thoughts, liking the meager bloody offerings of the sink from her wingtip. 

 

Until somepony knocked at the door. 

 

"that goes for you too Akane. i'm making food down in the kitchen." 

"Free food? Now that's something not to turn down. Might as well sample the local cuisine and see if its' to my liking." She exited the bathroom. "I'm up for whatever. I don't think I've eaten since I woke up and flew around the planet x number of times. Plus I'm pretty sure I need to load up on some carbs. I suspect a full metabolic transformation might burn off just a few of those." She said as she bounded towards the top of the stair case, and proceeded to jump down the stairs and glide down over them.

 

Or she would've, if her wing didn't get snagged on the bars of the handrail leading down, wrecking her flight and causing her to start tumbling down the steps, she briefly caught a glimpse of the darkened crystal landing below. "That looks like it'll do some damage." She thought to herself. She wracked her brain in the very brief amount of time allotted to herself. She wanted a way not to crack her skull open on the hard diamond floor. She did that enough times today. She braced herself for the inevitable impact...

 

But it never came. Instead of hitting diamond, it felt like she, well she wasn't sure. The closest she could compare it was the sensation of passing though fire extinguisher clouds mixed with plunging into water. And even then, those were still off the mark. She opened her eyes to see where she was. And what she saw was... well, something a three dimensional being has probably never see before. She was on the floor. She was in the floor. She was the floor? She looked up and made out what appeared to be the castle, and it's three other occupants above. She looked around the rest of... wherever she was.

 

All she saw was darkness. Or darknesses. She never thought there could be a plural form for darkness. Yet she was looking at them. Differing forms of darkness. Different ways to highlight, the absence, of light. It was a ... corridor... of sorts? Made of darkness. It didn't get any bigger or smaller when she changed her angle of looking at it. She flapped her wings. And she went forward. Like a bullet train guided along a rail. She took several sharp turns, seemingly along the wall. The corridor seemed to shrink in the presence of a chandelier or a torch, wherever there was light. It expanded into a field in the unused rooms.

 

"This is an interesting place to be. Where exactly is it?"

Skyla smiled. She was glad she'd be able to stay here for a while; she still had a lot to learn before she could go outside, or do anythhing, and thus far, Draco seemed to be the only one willing to help her. She wasn't sure why, but thus far, he had been the kindest dragon/pony/anything that she had met here, and she trusted him.

 

Skyla began to look towards her room, when suddenly, her growled, reminding her that she hadn't had a single bite to eat in all of the time that she'd bee here. "I'm coming," she called out softly, as she turned to move down the stairs with Spikus and Draco. As she moved, however, she stopped briefly as loud noise a flash of movement caught her attention. She turned, only to wind up staring at floor about where the movement had ended. She blinked softly. Had that been...?

Skyla shook her head softly, dismissing the thought; ponies sinking through floors was ridiculous. She hurried down the rest of the stairs to join Spikus and Draco, wondering exactly what it was she had really seen...

Akane saw Skyla coming down the landing. As she was walking down, Akane saw the "corridor" she was in expand, and bridge out as it were, over to Skyla. "Why the heck not?" she stated as she flew over to this new section of darkness corridor. Once she reached it, she saw the rest of the corridor disappear, and her whole vantage point shift. She was no longer looking up through the floor, but now looking across the castle, as if she were standing up.

 

Akane was now right next to Skyla, although it appeared that she didn't notice. She started walking. Yet this lead to her gliding along the wall, it felt like. She saw Skyla's reflection in the hallway they were entering. She also saw Skyla's shadow on the opposite wall. One that was unusually tall, longer tailed, pointy eared, and with a pair of very large bat wings stretching off it.  She raised a hoof. Skyla's "shadow" raised a hoof of it's own. 

 

"Holy hot damn."

"You'll be pleasantly surprised I'm sure my friend! you see, you may not have it on the brain just yet but once you try some pony friendly food you're taste buds will thank you. It's not just your appearance that has changed. The entire make up of your being has changed. meat would taste disgusting to you now." he said softly.

He stopped before going into the kitchen and looked back behind him at Skyla. "Akane..." He snorted and reached his hood into the wall beside Skyla and grabbed Akane pulling her back into the normal plane. "you need to be more careful and not go wandering off into the shadow plane blindly." he said firmly as he released her. "It can be dangerous there." he added and walked into the kitchen and began to make breakfast. A huge batch of pancakes.

Akane saw Draco turn around and approach and start reprimand her. "Wait what?" She then felt him bring his hoof into the darkness and pull her out back into the three dimensional world of light. Akane had to sheild her eyes cause of how bright everything was by comparison. 

 

"Aye, what just happened? How did I do that? How did you do that!? What the hell was that!? Where the hell was that!?"

He began mixing up pancake batter casually as he spoke. "Well if I'd have to guess I would say you have some sort of connection with chaos magic." He said. "Normally bat ponies are comfortable with darkness but they don't normally have the ability to enter the darkness. The shadow realm. I have a great deal of chaos magic at my disposal so I was able to bring you back." He added. "Shadows are shady. They could get angry and attack one minute then want to play the next."

"Wow shadows being shady I would never have thought of that." Spikus sarcastically said. He noticed Draco begin to mix pancake batter which gave him a confused look on his face. "Wait... Ponies can eat pancakes in this world? I thought they ate stuff like grass and hay and the occasional apple?" he said as he attempted to scratch his head with his hoof.

"Wow shadows being shady I would never have thought of that." Spikus sarcastically said. He noticed Draco begin to mix pancake batter which gave him a confused look on his face. "Wait... Ponies can eat pancakes in this world? I thought they ate stuff like grass and hay and the occasional apple?" he said as he attempted to scratch his head with his hoof.

Draco shook his head. "You are very open about what you want to say aren't you?" he said quietly as he cooked. He served the pancakes to the group of hungry ponies. "There is a lot that ponies in this world can eat. You see, ponies eat salads hay oats fruits veggies, cheese eggs and all sorts of baked goods. Just no meat." He said as he used his magic to set syrup and butter out in front of them. "So they are basically vegetarians."

Akane was rubbing her eyes and blinking away the spots from the sudden exposure to the light of the material plane. "Wait, so, I can physically merge with shadows? I can.. shadow step?" Akane mulled this over briefly. " I can walk in shadows, like a vampire? Sweet! More vampire powers! No wait, it's something even better! This isn't a vampire power. It actually means I'm a ninja! I told everybody so! The never believed me when I told them I was descended from ninjas! Well now I have proof! I'm a ninja with vampire powers!"

 

She then smelled the pankakes. "Are those banana nut?"

Draco smiled softly and nodded. "Some are. Some are blueberry, and a few are chocolate ship." he said as he served up huge stacks of food. "Eat up every pony. " he said as he got out some orange juice and sweet tea and milk for them to drink if they wanted any. He sat down at the end of the table and began to eat quietly skimming through a newspaper he had sitting in front of him.

Things here maybe easier than anticipated...."  she said, pausing for a moment, before turning back to the drawer, reaching in and puling out a butterknife, and shutting it with her hip. 

 

She then opened the fridge, looking for the butter or margarine. She saw a yellow brick in the door. She grabbed this one too, undoing the wrapping and taking a whiff. It was indeed butter. She shut that door too and went to the leaning tower of buttermilk. One slice into the yellow brick later and she laid the butter slab on her steaming stack. 

 

"Hey bruh, what kind of syrup do you have?"

Skyla had just finally finished calming down from the incident that had occurred earlier. Seeing her own shadow move without her had been surprising enough, but seeing Draco reach through a solid wall and pull out Akane was enough to leave her momentarily speechless. It was only just now, sitting in front of the steaming pancakes, that she was finally able to find her words.

 

"I didn't know we could use magic here," she said absentmindedly as she placed a pancake on her plate. As she absent-mindedly reached down to bite into it, her mouth and mind exploded briefly. She almost sighed; she hadn't know pancakes could taste this good.

He sat 3 jars out on the table with his magic. "maple, strawberry and chocolate hazlenut." he said as he named off the 3 types of syrup. "and technically its very early morning." he said looking at a clock over the doorway. "about 4:15am." he said.

He looked over at Skyla. "well..." he thought. "Normally only Unicorns and Alicorns can technically use magic. Now... chaos magic can be used by some other beings. Usually those that have a deeper tie to darkness or discord." he said softly. "chaos magic comes to those who thrive on chaos."

"4:15?" Akane said as she was trying to kill her meal before she feasted upon it's fluffy flesh, by drowning it in maple syrup. "The sun set like two hours ago! It's probably been six hours since I first awakened as a vampiric ninja horse, at most. The walk here didn't take THAT long. And I don't take THAT long to shower." she pondered with a hoof to her jaw as she set the nearly empty syrup bottle down. "I mean the only way this makes sense is if the day/night cycle of this world is different than earths. What season is the land currently in and what's the day/night cycle like for this time of year? Cause either the seasons are different than on earth, something I really shouldn't be surprised about, or... this castle is time displaced!"

"Chaos magic," Skyla muttered, trying hard to figure out exactly where she had heard that word from. Something she'd heard from school... Her eyes opened suddenly in a moment of realization, and she stopped chewing her pancake. "Chaos. Chaos...is bad, right? You can only destroy things with chaos? Right?" she called openly, hoping she was at least somewhat on point with the conversation.

"Yes I'm very open about what I say though I'm not sure why." said Spikus with a mouth full of blueberry pancake. He swallowed and turned his head to Skyla. "Well that's a very archaic way of looking at an inherent part of life. Random chance is just as much of chaos as wanton destruction and natural disasters are." he said just before going back to eating pancakes.

"It could be said that without chaos. Nothing would exist as we know it. The universe would be a sterile, lifeless, rigid place if chaos didn't shake things up and spark reactions. Too much order results in nothing being done. Too much chaos results in an incoherent mess of primordial matter, nothing gelling together long enough to build life off of. It's only when there's balance between the two, the chain reaction of chaos, given order and direction, that we have the universe, or universes, we now of today. Or something like that." Akane commented as she skewered a pancake with one of her wing fingers and stuffed the maple soaked entree into her mouth. 

As she was mushing out her pancake between her canines, Akane looked over at Draco and his newpaper. It made her realize something. She swallowed her portion."Hey, you said you owned a book that translated this worlds written language. Where was it again." Akane couldn't read a thing off Draco's newspaper.

Draco nodded a bit. "well, generally chaos is seen as being a bad thing, and often it can lead to disorder and ... discord. But at the same time, just as they said, chaos can simply be an unexpected outcome." he said as he stood. "this castle is time displaced, things tend to happen as they wish. apparently the night wanted to fly by.' he said as he began to clean up.

"Aha! So it is time displaced! I knew I wasn't going crazy! Again!" Akane righteously proclaimed. "But seriously though, where is this "horse language for dummies" book that you mentioned a while back? Cause if I'm ever going to venture out of this building, I'm gonna need to learn to read." She said as she licked the syrup off her wing.  

 

She also noticed something on the newspaper in mid tongue bathe. A picture. A familiar looking one. "Hey, isn't that the sandpaper throated tye dye horse who ran into me earlier today? Why am I not surprised she, I think it was a she, could've been a he, made it onto the front page."

He looked up from his now entirely empty plate and stood up. "Time displacement huh? I'll take that as meaning that instead of sleeping for like half an hour that I basically slept for around 6, eh, I've functioned with less. However, seeing as it still appears to somewhat dark outside being only about a quarter past 4 AM I guess I'll still have to wait a bit before that town you mentioned wakes up... What direction is it in anyways? I'm rambling aren't I?... I guess coming to an alternate reality didn't really affect that..." Spikus shut himself up to avoid blurting anything else out that was uneccessary.
