MLP Forums NFL Football Thread - Sched. Release to SBXLVII

Haha, same position I played in high school!

Burlington Demons FTW.

Would you perhaps mind playing some defensive end, too? :)

About the thread: Draft is in a week and a half. The Pats need a true man-to-man corner and I would take Janoris Jenkins with the 27th pick. His "off-field" issues wouldn't matter when you have the Patriot Way - plus he has Darrelle Revis/Asomugha potential.

You'd be good at returning kickoffs :)

:D Even better, I would have epic 90+ yard runs.

I think he was a serious target for the Lions until his character issues were brought to light, and then we had two of our guys busted for pot possession lol.

Would like to see the Lions get a corner, O-lineman, safety, and a linebacker this draft. Build up that defense which didn't live up to the hype generated by our D-Line. Our offense is fine to me as long as Best is healthy and Leshoure has his head on straight and recovered from his achilles tear.

our D-Line

Very promising D-line, at that. The thing with having good Dlines that can create pressure all the time is like having a quarterback that can throw for 5000 yards (thus, the offense doesn't rely too much on the running game as it's almost obsolete).

Pot possession... extremely overrated and overblown by the media, IMO. Aaron Hernandez and Brandon Spikes both failed drug tests and yet they have no issues whatsoever... and are up and coming players (though, Hernandez is already one of the bigger names in the NFL).

5 days until the Draft!

Eagles are shopping around Asante Samuel and are willing to go as low as to receive a 5th round pick for him. If I'm the Lions I would take that deal in a heartbeat. Get Samuel, then draft a top 3 CB in the 1st round and that position is pretty much set with Chris Houston (he's not too bad) and Alphonso Smith (he's a big hit or miss CB, either gets a pick or gets burned) already in the fold.

If he's a hit or miss player, he shouldn't be considered to begin with. Then again, in what aspect does it make him hit or miss?

He makes plays and forces a lot of turnovers, but there's times where he has a bad day and gets burned by the WRs

Which one is he more prone to doing?

It's about 50/50 lol but the Lions are so thin at CB that he's our 2nd best that I can think of because we lost Eric Berry to Tampa.

Any other teams trading around their CBs?

NFL Network and ESPN announcing they're going to place emphasis on not "tipping" off the draft selections by showing players on the phone right before a team's announcement. *thumbs up*

BREAKING NEWS

ESPN Outside the Lines reporting that Saints GM Mickey Loomis may have been electronically eavesdropping on opposing coaches in the opponent's locker room since 2002.

WOW what is going on down in New Orleans? If the NFL hammers the Saints more, I think this will be Drew Brees' last year in a Saints uniform. He'll work out the franchise tag and then be a free agent for 2013.

Interesting to see who will pick up Brees when the time comes. Other than that, have you noticed that its gone ALL down hill for the Saints after winning the Superbowl?

Guess who's buying Madden 13 this year?

I am!

MEGATRONNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Lions are going to be sick, Calvin Johnson on the cover. Ballin.

Yay tonight is Christmas in April, NFL DRAFT!!!

Lots of smoke that the Lions will trade up to the teens to take CB Stephen Gilmore, South Carolina

Also been talk of trading up for S Mark Barron

Or they stay put and have CB Dre Kirkpatrick fall to them

I would like Dre Kirkpatrick in the 1st, then take a gamble in the 2nd by getting Janoris Jenkins.

YEAHHHHHHHHHH NFL DRAFT NIGHT WHOO!!!!!!! TOO BAD IT'S JUST THE FIRST ROUND, THOUGH! OH WELL! AT LEAST SECOND ROUND'S TOMORROW!

First few picks were pretty obvious. Luck and RGIII were no brainers, and the Browns pathetic offense needed help especially after Hillis left, and the Vikings needed help because their QB was quite literally knocked around by rushers in every snap.

The Jaguars benefit from having a deep-threat wideout in Blackmon. Now there's that receiver Gabbert's been looking for.

Cowboys actually drafted right for once. Anyways, their secondary was quite the embarrassment last year (coming from all the Cowboy fans on YouTube) so now that Claiborne is on that team, they have that lockdown corner they so desperately have lacked.

Dolphins selected Tannehill. Wonder how things will develop there now that Marshall is obviously gone but Bess and Hartline are promising receivers so Tannehill can definitely benefit from that (though, just not against the Patriots :P).

Bucs selected Barron; could be a classic pick considering they were well-known for their D back in the day, and also Barron is a safety with instinct and dishes out hard hits.

Dammit! Kirkpatrick is gone. I have no idea who the Lions will go for now. Only names I've heard that are still available are Whitney Mercilus, Courtney Upshaw, and of course Janoris.

Wow at Dallas trading up all the way for Claiborne. Lol Dolphins. Not too many of the analysts like Copels all that much lol.

My sources tell me that the Lions selected Riley Reiff.

Yep, I'm totally okay with going O-Line. Backus is old, Cherilus is really inconsistent. We need to protect Stafford and our run blocking sucks. Iowa is pretty much a lineman factory. I'm good with Reiff.

Hoping for LB or CB in the 2nd round. I'll take the risk on Jenkins.

Patriots select Chandler Jones with the 21st pick. I love this pick. 6'5, 265 lb dlinemen are hard to come by and he has the credentials to play both as a 3-4 or a 4-3 DE.

Dont'a Hightower has played as both an ILB and an OLB, so there's versatility in the linebacker corps. He also has good pass rushing skills so there's that OLB spot we've essentially filled now.

The two are very explosive players who can both be big impacts from day one. Can't wait. And we still have 2 second rounders!

There's no risk on picking Jenkins. Guy is just a lockdown corner with marijuana "problems". I hope we nab him somehow.

Patriots finally cash in on their 2-3 years of hoarding high-round picks lol

I'll say this: Bill Belichick must really like the talent in this draft if he traded up not only once, but twice. I have a really good feeling about this team for not only this year but next year. And the second round is still to come.

This first round was pretty lame even with the large amount of trades. Nothing too shocking. Only picks I LOL'd at were the Seahawks taking the guy from WVU and the Bears' Boise State guy.

Nvm, just LOL'd at Niners' pick

The Niners are making a serious case to bolster their WR corps... A.j. Jenkins

They've already got Moss, Manningham and Davis so I wonder how this will work out.

First round impressions: I loved what the Patriots did tonight. Finally got those pass rushers they've been searching for since '09 (lack of strong talent and potential across the board during previous draft nights with the exception of guys like Clay Matthews and JPP) and the second round is still to come.
