Caliboom 219 August 17, 2015 Share August 17, 2015 So, my suggestion is giving the ability to delete their own posts. It would be pretty useful if you accidentally posted in the wrong thread or something like that.
JonasDarkmane 19,787 August 17, 2015 Share August 17, 2015 So, my suggestion is giving the ability to delete their own posts. It would be pretty useful if you accidentally posted in the wrong thread or something like that. I think the mods need to be able to see and verify every post posted to make sure no one is posting anything that would violate the rules of this forum. The mods are the ones that delete the posts. You can always ask a mod to delete your post if you don't think it is fitting or just have no desire to have it on display. If you create a thread in the wrong section, it will be moved to another thread by a staff member of the forums. If it is just a post in the wrong thread, a moderator will probably delete it. 2 Signature by @Kyoshi Ask Me Matsunaga Hisahide's death https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKT5Khp3-0U
Birdy the Phoenix 70 August 17, 2015 Share August 17, 2015 I don't think that you should be able to delete your own posts, as it can be easily exploited. Like JonasDarkmane said, asking a mod to delete your post is fine. If a feature like this is added, I think that it should only be useable from the Phoenix rank up. 1 This is a WIP. Why are you still looking at this? Seriously. You should have looked away by now. Congratulations. You have read the 4th line. I can't believe you are still here. *sighs and walks away*
Caliboom 219 August 17, 2015 Author Share August 17, 2015 Uh, yes, but it would be a lot easier, and you wouldn't need to bother the mods. I don't really see any downsides with that, I've been in multiple forums with that option, and there weren't any downsides.
Jeric 46,854 August 17, 2015 Share August 17, 2015 So, my suggestion is giving the ability to delete their own posts. It would be pretty useful if you accidentally posted in the wrong thread or something like that. The reason that doesn't exist is simple. Even though the community is possessed of upright individuals (my highly unscientific guess is 99%), we still need a record of items on this in case there are bullies, or threats of violence, posted porn, and general asshattery. I've seen people try and 'delete' status updates after posting a bullying comment not realizing the button doesn't delete them. So we have experience that this would be bad. Also, how would a person report a post that they saw that was NSFW or abusive if it was hidden or deleted? As much as I appreciate the suggestion, this is never happening. Uh, yes, but it would be a lot easier, and you wouldn't need to bother the mods. It is never a bother
Lightwing 12,974 August 17, 2015 Share August 17, 2015 @, Jeric showed perfectly the reasons of why this cannot be a thing. If a setting to delete the own posts existed, it could be too exploitable, in terms of being able to delete, as an example, the evidence of breaking the Global Rules, which could be a NSFW picture, or an example abusive behaviour. If the post is deleted, that person could get free due for the lack of evidence. Again, making a record of items and posts really useful. Although we appreciate your suggestion, it's not something that we plan to do in the near future.
