IDoNotSpeakEnglish 89 August 20, 2015 Share August 20, 2015 Well, it's much more normal for a kid to like a kid's show than it is for me to like the show. Also, it's just as weird for me to label myself as brony as it is for a kid. I don't want to be discriminated for being a teenager and liking a kid's show; why should a kid be discriminated for using a label commonly associated with teenagers and older people that like that kid's show? But, Actually, I don't really like the term "brony", and I'd also like to be respected in that sense: I should be able to choose any labels for myself and have those respected(as long as I fit the most basic definitions for them, of course); from that, I think the respect for one's choice of labels should be universal, therefore, I will respect a kid's choice on that too(by the way, I don't see "kid" as pejorative in any way: it's just an age classification). Also, I also don't see any problem with a kid associating him/herself to the fandom. It's just an way to engage on showing appreciation for something you like with other people that like it, it would be horrible to take that away from anyone. and I don't think that creating a fandom just for kids is quite feasible, you know? I'm sure that it's dangerous for them to stumble upon the messed up part of it, but it would be so anyway; with friends in the fandom they can at least have guidance on that. To conclude, I don't think anyone would become brony just to fit in. They might adopt the label after liking the show to fit in with the fans and make friends; which is what I did, and probably what most did, I can't find anything wrong in looking for friends in a friendly place. They might start watching the show after hearing about bronies; which is what happened to me, and probably to many else, can't see anything wrong with that! And they might actually just start using the label to fit in, but that is much less likely with a kid, since they tend to be more sincere and less aware of the consequences of what they claim. Plus, I know the show is awesome; if people say they like it, I believe them! Plus, I know the fandom is awesome; if people say they like it, I believe them! Oh, my! That ended up way too long! I'm so sorry; I'm horrible at being concise! 2 Created by: Princess Moonlight

DND 2,355 August 20, 2015 Share August 20, 2015 (edited) I'm putting dibs that this kid either was introduced to the internet's fandoms way to young or he has an older close figure or sibling who is a brony, or just a big fan. It doesn't seem likely he would just like the show out of thin air. 80% of kids that age give or take tend to like the stuff TV tells them so and their parents say they should like. Love//Hack 819 August 21, 2015 Share August 21, 2015 (edited) So, I was derping around on a brony Minecraft server (crystalempire.se to be exact), and I was chatting with this player. The player asked how old I was, and I told them. Then, I asked them how old they were, and they said they were 8. Not surprising, as tons of kids play the game, but I was surprised that they were playing on a MLP-themed server. I asked if they were a fan of the show, and the player said they were. This was really surprising, as I'd always assumed that the youngest fans would be around 10-11. 8 seems ridiculously young. So, to get to the point, is this normal? Are kids becoming bronies because of the show, or just so they can try to fit in? Is an 8 year old actually part of the targeted age group, therefore not making them a brony? I'm curious, so leave replies please. This was really surprising, as I'd always assumed that the youngest fans would be around 10-11. 8 seems ridiculously young Oh son PLEASE, you clearly hadn't met me or my own 8 year old little sister. Seriously though, my own sister is in 3rd grade and goes to my old elementary that I went with her in 5th and 6th grade (now I'm an 8th grader) and is 8 years old. However, she knows about Bronies and Pegasisters and our fanbase fandom. She knows about fandoms in general and most internet terms such as shipping or canon. She even once said she "could be a Pegasister!" if she "wanted to!" I, myself, was 11 years old when I joined the fandom and this was back in 2010 and the word Brony wasn't even that well known yet. And I started watching it when it only had 15 episodes in season 1. I basically liked the show before it was cool technically. (In fact I, somehow by destiny , seem to like most of the popular things on the Internet before they gain popularity. Even including overrated stuff like god-knows-what game in my username or before Disney's Frozen had it's first merch and got overrated.) I felt awkward really as the popularity grew since I knew people were yell at me calling me a target audience fan however. And soon enough, my little sister jumped in the haywagon with me with MLP. She even brags about having knowledge on the "wonderful and fun world of fandoms!" to her classmate friends who also like MLP and her other fandoms I like. In fact I think it's because of my big brother and me she's like this. I'd always assumed that the youngest fans would be around 10-11.In fact, I rarely met any 11-12 year old fans like I was at the time. I felt like a outcast and a loner for my fandoms. She even ships some pony yuri like I started liking MLP yuri on my 12th birthday after growing a liking for RariDash and TwiJack which I still both ship. Back then we only shipped pony Heterosexual ships and only Het ships for other fandoms. Pony yuri I can safely say is the only yuri you'll ever seeing me like though. (Both of us never liked any form of yaoi. Most likely never will since yaoi to me girls my age around 13 and older mostly enjoy it for two attractive guys to them having "hot" actions the girls would fantasize about. And me being Asexual... UH, let's get back on topic...) And I explained to her what canon and uncanon stuff meant. She even reads Fanfiction with me whenever I'm bored. Even shipfics (if they're clean of course or age appropriate for her) and I don't even make her do this. She enjoys it and all the fanart and comic dubs. Same for our other fandoms apply. I guess I and my brother inspired her too, especially me being the fandom-obsessive loser I am and the official "Fandom Fangirl" of my middle school (how many MLP fans do you meet that are apart of the fandom that are in Jr High besides me?) So far with the Creepypasta fandom she's the only student who isn't scared of them. Really though, she loves the fandom and other fan bases more than anything (not nearly as me though) and I'd consider it kinda normal. She even begged me to make her a account for MLPForums. It's same with gender; there are no rules for gender that apply at all to call youself a Brony. You could be a female and still call yourself a Brony proudly with pride or use the term Pegasister if you like and it's normal unlike what some people say. I've been hated at my Jr High for being a FEMALE Brony. I even get more hate than the male fans at my school. And that I'm an target audience fan for being female. *facepalms/facehoofs* Where as my sister, she and her classmates talk about the show all the time and she even tries telling them about fandom-related stuff. So all in all it's all normal for this 8 year old to call herself a Brony. I've seen young female fans dislike the Pegasister term actually. And a Minecraft server would be the best place for her to find other people who liked the show and also like Minecraft, two things my own 8 year old sister and I enjoy very much. Once again, I blame myself and brother for this. Especially myself. XD I'm such a fandom and Internet-culture obsessive idiot and now my sister will suffer like meI'm honestly glad I've been drawn to Internet culture at age 11 really. Not only that but if I told anyone my age they would say how mature I was for my age and to know about Internet stuff. Since everyone treats 11-12 year olds as 5 year olds when SOME are more mature than they usually are portrayed. So I was a shining example. That sounded so ignorant on so many levels... Honestly why I miss being a preteen even though I'm loving being 13. XD As for my sister, I wonder how her classmates would react to her obsessions. Silver Letter 1,832 August 21, 2015 Share August 21, 2015 Here's a question: should the little girls that the show is made for be a part of the "brony fandom?" If, say, a five year old girl loves the show, but knows about the brony fandom, is she part of it? No. Bronies are fans of MLP which are outside of the target audience, 6-8 year old girls. An 8 year old boy might be a brony but he is part of the targeted age range so there's a bit of a grey area. I guess he's like half a brony. Silver Letter!!! Stardust* 3,302 September 8, 2015 Share September 8, 2015 (edited) I have two daughters, ages 5 and almost 2 (next month). They both love the show and they have toys, clothes, etc. My oldest just started school this year and she absolutely loves Rainbow Dash. She wanted a Rainbow Dash birthday party and cake, she loves to talk about Rainbow any chance she gets to anyone who will listen. I don't know if I would say that they are bronies or pegasisters, but they are fans of the show, they might grow out of it through trends. But for now they love it, and I think a lot of that love has come from me as well lol. Ted Cruz 177 September 8, 2015 Share September 8, 2015 The only thing that's required to be a brony is to be into the show. If he wants to be referred to as a brony, let him. If he wanted to identify female I'm sure you'd let him.. Regardless of age, anyone can be a brony. woah
