Did Rainbow Dash get kicked out on her birthday?

In Pinkie Pride she claims she moved to Ponyville on her birthday. We know nothing about her parents but if they're as careless as Rainbow Dash maybe they had an attitude that she is now a certain age and should be taking care of herself. Or alternatively (and probably more likely) she thought she didn't need parenting anymore and left her home after reaching a certain age.

From the looks of it she just moved to ponyville on her birthday on her own, which now that you mention it is pretty odd. However several of the mane six (fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Dash) appeared to of struck it out on their own shortly after receiving their cutie mark, and they were able to get employed, so perhaps equestria views fillies with cutie marks as independent enough to not need to live with their parents if they so choose?

I hadn't thought about it that way. I wonder why that was the case. It's possible that Dash saw her birthday as the threshold of maturity and decided to go on her own at that particular time.

Or she became an orphan at some point after the Equestria Games flashback, and went on her own when she became an adult.

I like to think that for ponies, getting one's cutie mark is often a point where they go out to apprentice with a pony with a similar talent to train and master their craft. The apprentice's instructor and household essentially becomes a second family and home to a pony. I like to think that Pinkie Pie also left home shortly after getting her cutie mark to apprentice under the cakes.

I mentioned this in Head Canons.  I'd put in a link, but either my computer or myself seems to lack the ability.

 

IMO, school in Equestria seems to go up 8th grade (age 14) & then most folks get a job.  (IRL, this would be the standard up until post WW2).  Given her academic problems (Testing, 1, 2 3) Dash possibly dropped out or scraped through by cheating.  Then, she got a job w the Weather Bureau, probably pushing clouds (like background ponies have been shown doing in some episodes)

 

But, she isn't stupid (especially about flying) so she learned on the job & by age 17 she was good enough to be put in charge of the Ponyville Weather Service (AFAIK, it doesn't specifically say that anywhere but she ACTS in charge in Hurricane Fluttershy & Winter Wrap Up + she is in charge of clearing the sky in the pilot)

 

So, IMO, she moved to Poneyville when she got a job in Poneyville.

It is possible though unproven, Rainbow Dash simply deciding to move out of her parents house could well have happened. I could easily see Rainbow Dash as the type of pony that can't wait to move out and get her own place so she can do whatever she wants.
