gaming The future of KoA: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a Fantasy RPG made by Ken Rolstone (lead designer of Oblivion), Todd Macfarlane (Spawn creator), R. A. Salvatore (bestseller author) and gamemusic legend Grant Kirkhope. The game was well known for encouraging hybrid buildings, interesting combat system and a rewarding quick time system.

Unfortunately, the game flopped, the studio had to close its doors and the IP is still for sale.

Has someone else here played the game? How would the series end up?

I played it but I haven't completed it.  It's an awesome game and I enjoyed the combat and visuals.  The series may end unless someone buys it.

Actually a game I really enjoyed. It was like Fable if Fable actually worked and didn't have Peter Molyneux. >:T

It had really solid gameplay and very little restrictions to just how you chose to play your character. Combat was very fun, the "limit break" system they had was particularly nice even if it did kinda boil down to QTE, and it just felt as though you weren't shoehorned into approaching every type of enemy the same way based on whatever class you were currently playing as.

But while I thought the Gameplay was its high point, what really let it down for me was it's story & characters, and that's a major issue for me in any RPG, and attributed mostly to the reason why I never actually finished the game. The story was just boring. The characters were forgettable. I just never felt much of a desire to continue after a while because I didn't really care about what happened next. I had switched off about 2 hours ago when I was doing a long quest for a person and reason I had completely forgotten. That to me kills an RPG. It needs to keep me interested and suck me in, I love my beloved immersion, but this game was just lacking it almost entirely. It was a shame too, because the world looks very interesting. It was full of color, vibrancy, large towns, many things that should make up a fine RPG experience. But they all just felt so dead and uninteresting, like they had no purpose other than to make a pretty backdrop. Maybe some would argue me on the point, but I felt as though they just didn't put in enough time and care to the story of the world and adventure you were on.

So yeah, great gameplay hurt by a mediocre story makes this somewhat of an above average game for me. Probably about a 7/10. It's a shame to have seen the developers close up shop so soon, obviously EA felt their plate was full with RPG's like Dragon Age and Mass Effect and just didn't care to give this one a chance. If it came back again under another developer I wouldn't be too surprised, but I don't think I'd be jumping out of my seat either. :P

It was fun and honestly had a lot of potential to be a grander game if it got a sequel. That said I honestly do not want somebody to pick it up and make more, what I want is someone to draw inspiration from it. The art, the extremely fluid fast combat, the setting(I love high fantasy almost as much as dark fantasy), all the stuff that was great about it and on top make an actually interesting story and characters. Learn from the mistakes of KoA and make a game that is grander in all aspects, world size ignored because it was a huge game for what it was.

The man who thought the "only one button" gameplay would be mainstream.

There's news that 2K wanted to make the sequel for the IP, but RI governor Chafee spooked them away. More rumors come in that he took bribes from Jack Thompson to bring the IP and the developers in problems. Really need a source to confirm that.

Still no new auction.
