green 331 October 27, 2015 #1 Share October 27, 2015 I get it. She's done some questionable things. But why? I feel like Celestia is being hated on more than she deserves. I know she does wierd stuff, The Crystal Empire is a prime example, but she also has shown compassion to her subjects. All these memes going around saying She's a tyrant feels pretty harsh. She locked horns with Chrysalis so is she a tyrant there? I guess the question Im asking is why the writers give the most important pony two sides to her personality. Do they intentionally do this? Id like to hear your thoughts.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,803 October 27, 2015 #2 Share October 27, 2015 Most of this stuff is just the fandom doing its thing, making up funny and sometimes odd aspects for characters that we may not know much about. Celestia is a pretty mysterious character and has had barely any screen time lately, so it makes sense that the fandom would randomly fill in the blanks and the tyrant thing was born from that. XD I don't bother with any of that myself though. Celestia seems kinda cool, but she doesn't say a whole lot. She is really...mysterious.

The Tyrant thing comes out of nowhere. Yeah, we can argue about a few questionable things, but every great ruler of human history did these and some of them are still praised throughout human history. That is MY problem with Celestia. While I agree, she is presented to be more of a God (well she actually is one if you think about it), I wouldn't hold this against her. She can be dense at times, but she's a very kind ruler for the kingdom. She never acts superior over the other and does well with creating light hearted conversations to other ponies as if she was a normal pony herself. I don't think was created to be as relateable as the others.....she was created to be more like a mother figure to the Kingdom 1 SILVER STREAM'S POETRY DUMP I am Silver Stream || My Request Shop

Silver Stream. 708 October 27, 2015 #10 Share October 27, 2015 (edited) Lmao....the incident in "Make new friends but keep discord" was more of a gag. Let's not forget how excited and happy Twilight was when she thought her friends were in trouble in the episode "Lesson Zero". Or how Cadence didn't see nothing wrong with nearly being killed by that plant/worm/whatever that thing was......in the episode "Three's a crowd". Stuff like that are just for the audiences to laugh at and shake their heads like "wow you're such a great person" in a sarcastic manner. But that doesn't make Celestia or Twilight or Cadence less of a good princess or good person Edited October 27, 2015 by Princess Sunset SILVER STREAM'S POETRY DUMP I am Silver Stream || My Request Shop

cider float 2,538 October 27, 2015 #19 Share October 27, 2015 I don't understand why Celestia is hated and Luna is loved so much in contrast. Luna is the one that acts high and mighty as seen in that Nightmare Moon episode of course she mellowed down at the end of the episode but what she expects of her citizens isn't that much less. Celestia is more like "lol hey guys what's going on." Luna is like "BOW BEFORE YOUR RULER" Though I do like Luna because she's cute. :x

Cimarronboy 248 October 27, 2015 #21 Share October 27, 2015 Again just people making assumptions to fill in the blanks, some aspects though (trollestia, molly) are downright good entertainment compared to the somewhat dutiful and boring Tia we're allowed to see. As for myself tia seems more like that aunt that you can go to for anything. She can be the most fun or the most supportive. Near fatal laugh causing during prank wars and scarier than anything imaginable after stealing cake from. Solid and supportive like stone, wise and and caring like an elder, aloof and devious like a kid. I always try to write her as the responsible aunt I go to for training, advice, to be calm, relaxed and just be content around. She's the one who wears the serious mask most of the time but has moments where she lets her real face be seen and her mane down.
Jinxie Umbra 149 October 27, 2015 #22 Share October 27, 2015 I don't get why anyone sees Celestia as a god. The show's creator(s) have repeatedly said that is not the case. ManaMinori 4,145 October 27, 2015 #23 Share October 27, 2015 She'll protect her country's ponies from a threat, either on her own, with her sister, or with her student and her friends, but then she'll put the Crystal Empire's citizens at risk, just to teach her student a lesson about self sacrifice..... pony.colin 156 October 27, 2015 #24 Share October 27, 2015 (edited) She's got a small laundry list of awful decision making (you'd figure she'd be better at it over these past thousands of years). Being lazy and not listing them atm. Although the writers love to have her use Batman Gambits Huh, I could've sworn there were better examples of her using Batman Gambits in the list of examples at tvtropes, being too lazy to recall some of these Though there are other times where she gets a complete gambit roulette where it becomes even more difficult to believe she planned this out. Other than that, I realize she hasn't really had that great of a development and there's still a bit of an aura of mystery behind her full past (but there have been several things that have been revealed over the seasons). Thinking about, I forget, she's technically support character, but is kind of minor at best sometimes. I interpret those who call her a tyrant as those who are having fun with a meme and I don't view it as a serious stance. I doubt they're being serious. She's got flaws and those have been pointed out several times over. But she's not the worst if that's what my response sounds like. Because I'm not implying that either. She's got her own flaws which are at least more realistic, but she can do a few things pretty well too at times. Other than that, ummm .... I guess I got nothing atm. Sidral Mundet 1,666 October 27, 2015 #25 Share October 27, 2015 (edited) I think part of the reason is because she goes what Americans are taught about government, especially given our history with monarchs and dictators. Basically we're taught it's a very bad idea for any one person to have control and that participation from the masses in how the government is run is a good thing as well as a system of checks and balances to ensure that power isn't abused and that everyone has a voice, and so to see Celestia running unchallenged by her subjects with no oversight can have people thinking a bit more cautiously and given she doesn't appear to have much conflict going on also doesn't earn her tons of sympathy as easily as say Luna. Then you and on the Internet where hyperbole and overemphasis is king and there you go. And this coming from a guy with an avatar that's the logo of a brutal dictatorial army. Edited October 27, 2015 by Sidral Mundet Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.
