All,

Since nobody objected to me being the Judge of this competition, I'm going to assume that you're okay having me in that role.

Please let me know if anyone has a poblem with that.  That way, you can get a candidate you want in time for the competition!  :)

Your friend,

I have no issues with you - but shouldn't there be MORE judges?  If needed, I'd be more than happy to be a judge for this; I'm mostly doing this for fun, anyway.

Whaddya say, folks?

All,

Since we're nearing the start of the contest, I think it might be useful for me to give prospective contestants a few hints as to the kinds of things I'll be looking for in each of your role-playing submissions.  Please be aware that this list isn't meant to be comprehensive.  However, if you pay attention to the following points, you will fare much better than individuals who don't.

Spelling and Grammar:  A good roleplay allows the reader to smoothly immerse themselves in the story that's being told.  When I come across poor spelling and grammar, it's jarring.  That disupts the immersion and makes the roleplay as a whole less than effective.  I realize that some of you may not speak and write English as a first language, but since you'll be posting in that language, I expect you to pay attention to your spelling and grammar.

Attention to Continuity:  A roleplay, at its best, tells a collaborative story between its Administrators and Players.  With that said, the story itself is the most important component in the game.  The best roleplays almost read as continuous, seamless stories, engaging readers as might a good novel.  You should imagine that your roleplay will be read in this manner.  That said, if it's established in the story that it's a summer day and Pinkie Pie is visiting Applejack at Sweet Apple Acres, it's critical that you don't include her in your post taking place in Cloudsdale.  If you read a story in which this happened, you would be confused, wouldn't you?  Of course you would.  Your immersion into the story would be disrupted.  Try to pay attention to details in continuity!

Interesting Content:  When you go to a movie, watch a television show, or read a book...you do so with the notion that its content will be interesting and entertain you.  The same holds true for plays, ballets, and operas.  Roleplays are no different.  They should attempt to interest and entertain.  Now, you can't guarantee that you will succeed in these aims, as every audience has different tastes -- but this is something you should always strive for.  Give your audience something to remember!

Creativity:  I can virtually guarantee that everyone that will enter this competition is a creative soul.  Role-playing attracts this sort of person, unfailingly.  You should remember, however, that your Judges will most likely not know you personally.  They will have no idea how wonderfully creative you are.  Therefore, it falls to you to demonstrate that to them through your roleplay.  Cleverness will be rewarded when your roleplays are evaluated.

Those are a few guidelines that will help your submissions shine in the eyes of the Judge(s)!  If you have any questions or comments, please direct them my way!  I'd be happy to answer them.  :)

Your friend and Judge,

Haven't attempted to create a character within a space of several hours before. I'm pretty sure I have about 4.5 more, but better safe than sorry:

I might just end up working with her a bit more in the future. She's a bit two-dimensional right now, but I'm liking the concept. Plus, it is going to be quite fun trying to emulate her speech in writing.

I have been informed that I am OFFICIALLY a judge for this endeavor; my newest OC will have to wait.

Anyhoof, as my fellow judge Script Dangles has already covered the finer points that he'll be looking for, now I shall also give the finer points on what I will be looking for.  They are as follows:

Personality Adherence:

In a roleplay, your character should be themselves.  Stick to the core of who they truly are; if they have a problem being distracted by 'shiny things', then it isn't in line with the character to ignore them simply because they're in tense/hostile situations; that character should be putting themselves in harm's way to get at the 'shiny thing'.  Stay true to your character's personality - perks AND flaws.

Emotional Expression:

"He felt bad."  THAT is an example of what I find unacceptable - laziness in emotional detail.  These characters are supposed to feel depths of emotion; you will be expected to convey that depth.  Hollow chocolate is a disappointment; so are hollow OCs.

Story Adherence/Progression:

Stick to the storyline, and help it along.  This doesn't mean you'll have no time for character development; just keep on track.  Using your post to push the story along, or at least make mention of what's going on, can help make a story cohesive, and will guide the narrative along.  Make an effort to show that you're trying to advance the plot.

Humor:

BY LUNA, make it funny.  Entertainment IS the heart of any RP, and well-placed, well-timed humor can make all the difference between a lousy post and a memorable one.  Just keep in mind that Laughter is one of the Elements of Harmony for a reason, and try to find fitting/appropriate moments to add it in, when feasible.

Other than this, chances are I'll probably be looking for similar things that my fellow judge has already mentioned.

By the by, if nothing is assigned as an RP challenge by midnight on the 12th, SD and I will come up with something.  I promise, we'll make this as fun as possible for you folks.
