"I realized, the moment I fell into the fissure, that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned. It continued falling into that starry expanse, of which I had only a fleeting glimpse. I have tried to speculate where it might have landed, I must admit however, such conjecture is futile. Still, questions about whose hands might one day hold my myst book are unsettling to me. I know my apprehensions might never be allayed, and so I close, realizing that, perhaps, the ending has not yet been written."

So words can't even begin to describe my obsession with this universe, so I thought I'd make this thread to see if I can't find other fans of this amazing story.

This universe, to me, is one of the greatest creations I've ever been fortunate enough to experience. It's a universe of infinite possibility, in which any and all places in your mind can be visited with the right words and a little ink and paper. Myst has captivated my imagination ever since I was introduced to it, way back when I was no older than 7 or 8 years old, and continues to drive my curiosity.

Have you played any of them? If so, which ones have you beaten?

Currently there are 6 games. I've only managed to play through the first 3 entirely. (I need a better gaming rig)
-Myst

-Riven

-Exile

-Revelations

-Uru

-End of ages

For those who don't know the game or the books (yes there are 3 books, and they're awesome too!)

This universe is complex and limitless. If you were to use this universe for fan fiction, you could almost literally do anything with it. The premise of the story is based around the linking book. Linking books are a magical art form that describe worlds in intimate detail. Inside these books is a portal, through which you can visit the age that is described in the book. (age being the name for the worlds in the books)

In the games, you're thrown against a plethora of mind games and logic puzzles which involve large and complex mechanisms. The object is to solve these puzzles to advance, but there is an element of danger in some cases. Certain choices can end in disaster, and others in a progressive outcome.

Throughout the game, you are faced with a number of characters. Some are trustworthy, some will stab you in the back. All of them have interesting stories though.

Sadly, I've never been able to play any of these games, and completely forgot about them until now. My father had an old CD for the first Myst, but thanks to computer issues I was never able to load it up properly. Gonna have to look up emulators or something now >.>

@@Sekr Gray,

If you have steam, it's available there.

@@Dino-Mario,
Agreed. I've always been captivated by the unique designs of the buildings and the way everything is presented. It was an interesting fusion of a lot of different world cultures and styles. The idea that linking books are literally portals to anywhere you can imagine, that alone opens up infinite possibilities for stories to be told. The fanfiction realm is virtually limitless, and entirely possible to tie into the story made for the games and books within reason. It's a shame it seems to be so unknown.
