Despite her Alicorn status, I've noticed that Cadance clearly aged between the flashbacks with Twilight as a foal and at her wedding. Pictures spoilered for size. Twilight was a blank flank at the time of the first, so, assuming Twilight is in her early twenties at the wedding and she got her cutie mark around age 10-14, Cadance has noticeably aged over the course of 10 years. While not surprising for a normal pony, this poses a great problem to the fanon theory of Alicorn immortality. Now perhaps Alicorns just age to middle-age, then remain that way for eternity. But that opens up even more questions. Of course, so many questions already surround Cadance that these new ones aren't that big of a deal. I say that we can call the aging of Alicorns the "Alicorn Lifecycle Theory". Until disproven (or proven with the opposite knowledge) with the showing of a very old Alicorn, I say the theory is that they live forever at middle age. What has fanfiction has Ashbad written lately? We should totally find out by clicking this link. And if they aren't, Cadence has parents If she has aged that means she was born not too long ago, which means there must be more Alicorns, yet we've only seen 3. I believe she simply wasn't supposed to be an Alicorn, I mean, Twilight even calls her unicorn! apart for that one moment where she flies, it really wouldn't have made a diference. While she is an alicorn, she doesn't have the "immortal" perk as demonstrated by Luna and Celestia, but because she is an alicorn, i do believe her lifespan is considerably longer than other ponies. Either there are actually two completely different groups of Alicorns, or Celestia/Luna gained their longeity/possible immortality after birth. The only explanation is magic, meaning that a powerful magician could make him(her)self immortal. This new theory would explain why Celestia takes such an interest in finding magically gifted foals, as they could potentially be immortal rulers if the Alicorn sisters were to somehow die. In addition, the Canterlot Wedding episodes have seemed to debunk the fanon theory that Alicorns were just normal ponies who ascended to a superior form through magic or the power of the Elements. Cadance is an Alicorn while she is young and probably not able to control the movement of celestial bodies. Or maybe we can just say that Cadance's inclusion as an Alicorn, not a unicorn, was simply made by Hasbro not to build upon canon, but instead to find a new purpose for the old, pink Celestia molds. It is possible that being an Alicorn is acutally a mutation, and her parents are just normal ponies. Or even better, I actually usually believe that Celestia and Luna come from a different realm. It is possible Cadence too comes from a different realm, and she just recently entered the pony world. She will age until certain age and then never again. That would naturally spread away from the immediate royal family (the heirs) considering how family trees can branch out. That's my going theory, but it raises more questions and curiosity about Celestia and Luna's family. Surely, besides those two and now Cadence, there must be more royal family members. Oh, and to be on topic to the OP, since in the flashback Cadence was a teenager and Twilight a child, I agree with those saying Twilight is barely scraping 20 / early 20s and Cadence is most likely late 20s / barely 30. She seems to have aged at a normal, not immortal rate, and I have no idea whether to claim her as immortal or not. How long was she trapped in those caves? Exactly when did Queen Chrysalis take her place? Obviously, Shining Armor proposed to the real Cadence, but I must wonder how soon after the official engagement she was taken. I want to say nearly immediately afterward - if the real Cadence had even been present the day after he proposed, surely Twilight would have been told in person or at least sent mail to show up to Canterlot to be told in person. But then how long was their engagement? Both Cadences were aware of the correct wedding date, so... The others can doubt her, say somewhat unkind things, not believe her, and she just rolls with it. I also love her because her self-defined purpose in life is to make others happy. I believe her balloons cutie mark actually represents her uplifting others. Her amazing dimension bending and psychic powers are a factor, too When poor Pinkie Pie looses her mind, well, it is quite humorous. She has her own depression demons to fight, yet focuses on others.
