gaming PS4 Wins Black Friday + Updates/Lizard Squad

So the Wii U was the best selling item at Target, but around the world, the PS4 by a nose managed to once again be the best selling console overall for the holidays, with the Xbox One catching a few more eyes of older fans. When it comes to middle aged gamers they seem to prefer the Xbox and Wii U this year for deals, however this could just means a lot of people that age already owned the PS4.

 

On top of this, Sony has finally announced that the 7th core of the PS4 CPU will be available to developers for when they need the extra processing power. This is a feature that was previously only available on the Xbox One, so this will definitely bring the playing field even closer to Microsoft.

 

It's not all sunshine and rainbows though, as infamous hacker group "Lizard Squad" once again took down PSN for another global takedown. This is not unlike their previous attacks on Christmas last year which I personally was affected by as my wife was unable to even play her PS4 the day she got it. That being said, it's pretty obvious that Lizard Squad is going to launch another attack on Xbox Live and PSN on Christmas day. So for those who are planning on playing online on Christmas day, you may want to open your single player games first.

 

This definitely shows that Sony is not done yet in delivering stunning visuals and is intending to up the anti. With the Xbox One's DX12 update looming around the corner which will make visuals take up less resources on the Xbox One, it looks like Sony is preparing to match the possible soon-to-be graphical abilities of their biggest competitor.

 

What do you guys think? Does the fact that more people are buying a PS4 influence your decision on which console to get? Do you think the DX12 update will bridge the gap for the Xbox One? What about Lizard Squad?

I found out that the Gamestop in my area were sold out of PS4s and some Xbox One accessories by Saturday.

It's a retaliation operation for Sony's removal of OtherOS (Which made Linux supporters and the US Air Force rage), or they're just doing it for the lulz .

Then they are wasting their time as that was removed yeaaaaaaaars ago. Not to mention it was never on the PS4, so it's like complaining about issues with the Honda Accord 2011 when the 2015 comes out. Not to mention you can get very cheap PCs that can run Linux, or they could use their PCs which they are DDoSing the network from to run Linux. Either way, they are a bunch of pussies. They are basically only DDoSing, which doesn't take a lot of actual work, just a big enough botnet which anyone can buy if they have enough cash.

Sony really needs to do something to keep their online infrastructure secure because every year I'm just reminded how much of a joke it is 

 

Personally I'm still iffy on the PS4, though I'm not sold entirely on either console(though I do like a few of the Xbone titles more, dat Scalebound). Admittedly the PS4 has a few exclusives that look interesting, like Horizon

Uncharted and Last Guardian are also looking pretty sweet. Though one game that'd definitely convince me to get a PS4 is a new Syphon Filter, especially after Logan's Shadow's cliffhanger ending

@: Don't expect The Last Guardian to launch soon. It's still in Development Hell and has a 50/50% chance to get released, but they'll schedule it again.

I'm still skeptical. Also 50/50 if it will succeed or flop due to the hype. That's the risk with Development Hell games.

And maybe the combination of Development Hell and hype could be the reason why Valve doesn't want to release Half-Life 3.

I think in the case of Half-Life 3 is because Gabe is visionary who refuses to compromise his vision until he has the ability to make it the way he dreams.

 

As far as hype goes: it's actually a fairly niche game. Even though it has a lot of followers, the style of game that it is is a VERY minimalist style. So people are not expecting "BIG OPEN WORLD QUEST WITH HOURS OF SIDE QUEST CONTENT AND AMAZING COMPLEX STORY." The fans of this series know what to expect from it, they know these games are relatively simple and straight forward, so people really what is there to hype? It's one of the few genres that is kind of almost immune to hype damage because there isn't much to hype.

 

The game was officially announced, a release time was partially set, Sony has been blogging about it since and promised more footage soon, on top of that they have opened the discussion for it on their blog site after the trailer came out. They are too invested now to suddenly cancel it again.

I was very tempted to buy a PS4 during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, it was priced at £250, however i ended up going for a Scuf Xbox One controller instead at the low price of £180
