Unlikeable Pony 2,700 December 6, 2015 Share December 6, 2015 Is there any particular reason for the blatant disdain for Faust which is prevalent in this thread? I still feel sorry for her, honestly. Same. it seems like dislike for faust has been cropping up alot lately as of S5 :/ To be honest, I kind of attribute that to just how the fanbase has changed: All those who disliked the way the show went tend to have left by now, yeah? So it kind of makes sense that those who have more reverence for faust and a dislike for the show direction wouldn't really be around that much right now, compared to S3 or S4. just kind of cause and effect, yeah?
Mesme Rize 15,692 December 6, 2015 Share December 6, 2015 Lauren Faust was interviewed at Equestria L.A. 2015 back in September. There, she was asked by M.A. Larson: "What's your impression, of the bronies' impression of you?" And she responded: "You know, I feel like you don't miss me. I feel like people can't tell the difference between the episodes I worked on and the episodes I didn't work on, and that all that work really wasn't worth it. It's like you guys like it just the same without me." Which implies she doesn't approve of post-Season 2 episodes, and also doesn't approve of bronies liking them. I just say the same thing that i said in another thread. well boo hoo. If you don't like the fact that i have fun with the show, so be it. I respect her for what she has done with the show, but it simply dosen't change the fact, that i just don't like her attitude. 3 My OC Mesme Rize: >https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mesme-rize-r8777 Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. Dark Qiviut 22,653 December 6, 2015 Share December 6, 2015 (edited) Which implies she doesn't approve of post-Season 2 episodes, and also doesn't approve of bronies liking them. I just say the same thing that i said in another thread. well boo hoo. If you don't like the fact that i have fun with the show, so be it. I respect her for what she has done with the show, but it simply dosen't change the fact, that i just don't like her attitude. Neither of you understand her reaction. Faust is known to be humble, sometimes too humble to a fault. What she's actually saying here is she helped work her ass off to get the show to be successful, but when she left, the show got more successful without her. In other words, she feels what she worked on was pointless, making her believe the fandom forgot her at least and abandoned her at worst. Her words implicate a serious lack of self-esteem in her work and herself. Is she loved by the fandom? Yes. Does Larson see is? Yes. But just because we see it and he sees it doesn't mean she does, and the fandom's overall excitement for it is more reserved now. There's a reason why the day after the interview, EQD hastily arranged for a now-postponed appreciation event for her. Lil Pip 775 December 6, 2015 Share December 6, 2015 (edited) Lauren is likely mum on the current state of the show for the following reasons: She's uncomfortable watching the show because it's no longer her project. She has infrequently mentioned how leaving the show remains a sensitive area for her. I remember her tweeting a few years ago that she missed her girls (i.e., the ponies). If Lauren does have a negative opinion of MLP at present, she wouldn't express it in public, if for no other reason than basic professionalism. If she decried the direction of MLP following her stewardship, it would sully her reputation and undermine future employment opportunities. Few people want to work with (or under) someone who is known to badmouth their colleagues. Related to the point above, Lauren has worked closely with some of the remaining staff. She's on good terms, for instance, with MA Larson, if their past Twitter exchanges are any indication. Why would she rip into the work of people she considers friends? Lauren is also extraordinarily busy, which is in large part why she doesn't make the convention circuit beyond a few sporadic appearances. Factoring in her other professional obligations, she may simply lack the time to go into a detailed critique of MLP, even if she desired to do so. Craig McCracken, her husband, did mention about year ago that Lauren was unhappy with Equestria Girls, or at least its concept. He has no reason to put words into her mouth, so we can accept him as a viable source. All told, Hasbro's push for Equestria Girls as a franchise may have been one of several factors that led to her departure, in addition to the logistical strain of acting as showrunner. If we are so bold as to read between the lines -- Lauren is glad for the overall success of the show, its staff, and the fanbase. But it's painful for her to engage with a project that contains her vision but is no longer hers to guide and cultivate. Probably like losing her children to a divorce, in a way. It's not really that we have any disdain for Lauren Faust, we just don't really care what she or anyone else thinks of the show as it is now. If we enjoy the newer show, why does her opinion even matter? Why do the newer seasons need her blessing. Don't get me wrong I respect and appreciate Lauren for creating Friendship is Magic but I enjoy and prefer the newer seasons and I don't need her blessing to continue watching them. Really, from my point of view, the only person who's opinion matters is my own. If I enjoy a show I'm going to enjoy it. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Carl Poppa 464 December 6, 2015 Share December 6, 2015 I do feel bad for her about what happened, but I'm a fan of the way the show has changed. The first couple of seasons were entertaining enough, sure, but seasons 4 and 5 have been the better ones IMO, particularly 5. Besides that, as others said, she's not working on it any more, so what does it matter what she thinks of it? Doesn't change the way the show has gone or where it's going. I really do feel for her, but I'm glad the show's gone where it has, and if she doesn't like that, well, that's just the way it is. Doesn't bother me any whether she likes it or not. TheMarkz0ne 962 December 6, 2015 Author Share December 6, 2015 Lauren Faust was interviewed at Equestria L.A. 2015 back in September. It's like you guys like it just the same without me." Which implies she doesn't approve of post-Season 2 episodes, and also doesn't approve of bronies liking them. It's like she's the opposite of George Lucas. Meaning she actually shows some concern for what her fans think of her work. If this were George and his typical fued with Star Wars fans, it would be him trolling about how he will never release the original unaltered versions. Or his little episode where he wears the "Han shot first" shirt just to make people boil. I am not saying the show is bad as of now. I am just saying without Lauren, we're missing out on some possible great ideas. I know I will most likely end up enjoying them because of her previous work. So maybe those rumors of a more mature show could be true. I only say this because of her personal attitude. She doesn't appreciate feminine stereotypes in media. I am happy she's not a hardcore feminist. I view her animation portfolio as gender neutral, she's trying to entertain everyone. I wonder what her original ideas for Twilight were. Same with Applejack, Rainbow, Fluttershy, Pinkie and Rarity. I still think she would treat Celestia much better than she's currently being treated. Her villains she created such as Nightmare Moon, Discord and Chrysalis I think would have been better with her ideas. Someone correct my ignoance, but Lauren didn't come up with the idea for Sombra right? And she had no plans of giving Tirek a retcon? I just don't look into all these things, so help would be appreciated. I have seen Chrysalis's original designs and 2/3 were much better than the current one. Hasbro claimed they wanted her scarier looking. But her current look is more G rated compared to what Lauren originally drew. I'm fine with her current design though, she can be creepy, but it's a fair compromise to keep soccer moms away from complaining.
