I love Ghostbusters and have a cosplay group that has full uniforms and movie quality gear. i get this question all the time. What i think of the new movie. I am hopeful and open minded. i think of it this way. Someone had finally decided to make this movie a reality and the made it, if its a good movie than we have another ghostbuster movie to enjoy and maybe we get more fans. If its a bad movie then people will be drawn back to the original movies and maybe more fans of the original will grow.

Who you gonna call?

Well in this case I wanna call the feminism busters. Not gonna judge a book by its cover but some films are not meant to be remade and ghostbusters is certainly one of them. Bleh. Will watch it of course but not in theatres.

I was really excited about an all female cast thinking that maybe we could see some nice balance of equality, but now that I have seen the cast... Nope. It's not about going "hey we could try the movie with women, see if that works." It's instead "SHOEHORN EQUALITY IN THERE. WE WILL SELL THIS FILM ON FEMINISM." It's so clear that they made the choices based solely on not trying to offend anyone and trying to tickle the fancy of the recent movements. Like the characters are so obviously meant to capture the tumblr crowd who complains about lack of people of race/overweight characters/non-sexualized female characters/we need more female characters who are in power positions. It's not being done for the reason of "hey we could make a cool movie and the characters happen to be female" it's being made for the purpose of pleasing that crowd and it's not gonna work.

This is literally a matter of just SHOEHORNING feminism in there, and not applying women into the film in a tasteful and thought out manner. It's clearly just an attempt at "LOOK EQUALITY. GIVE US YOUR MONEY." And the sad part is that people will fall for it.
