I know this may be expected for some, but what do you guys think about dragon ball super?

 

For me, honestly, its potential was just wasted.

 

I mean, some things of dragon ball super where good, like the soundtracks, little more fast paced then dragon ball z (i gotta admit that dragon ball z dragged out certain part way longer then they where supposed to be), and overall, akara toryama.

It was also becus of akara toryama that people started watching dragon ball super (gt wasn't made by akara toryama, so some fans din't bother watching it, but i gave gt a chance).

Akara toryama, the person who is responsible for dragon ball, dragon ball z, had come up with a new series called dragon ball super.

 

For the most majority of the fans, where really hyped, after all those years dragon ball would get new content!

And at first the series looked very well promising, but after what happend during episode 5 (for the people who dont know what happend in episode 5, they made terrible animation in the fighting part, and i mean, really bad.)

After that happend, people's hopes for dragon ball went down hill alot, countless of amounts of videos about episode 5 of db super where posted on youtube, most of em where rants.

But how can you not hate something like this?

 

 

 

 

 

This just made me lose any single piece of respect that i had for toei animation, i know that animating isn't cheap. but this is no excuse. This episode made me regret spending time, watching the series. and i am serious, after 4 nice good detailed made episodes, they decided to shove this in our faces.

 

But thats not all!

 

 

I cant believe how they managed to mess up this badly...

 

 

 

But after months of recovering from that terrible disgrace of air, i decided to watch dragon ball super again, and pretend that episode 5 has never existed. but then, lots of episodes later, they made gohan so weak, that he could barely turn super saiyan, let stand alone maintaining the transformation.

 

It just made me sad, how lazy writing was put into that part, in dbz, after 7 years of the fight with cell, gohan could still transform into super saiyan 2, yet, 2 years after the battle of gods arc, gohan can barely turn super saiyan, but yet, 2 years ago he still had his mystic powers?! i dont understand it anymnore @_@

 

What do you guys think of dragon ball super?

In the original Battle Of Gods, Beerus was an interesting, morally gray Jerk With A Heart Of Gold.

 

But in Super, he's more or less just a Family-Guy-style jerk who doesn't know when to quit.

The way they've handled Gohan post Cell is probably the biggest screw up in the entire series(yes even more than GT), especially after years upon years of build up of his power that depresses me that they've turned him into a complete joke(and this is coming from someone who loved his Great Saiyaman shtick early on), and is part of the reason why I haven't cared much for the series post Buu(not to say that the Buu Saga wasn't bad, it had a ton of great moments, but it was my least favorite saga in Z)

 

As for the animation, it's an unfortunate result of Japan's insane demands on animation more than anything. This video does a better explanation than I could though

I agree, my favorite arc in dbz would be the buu saga. Altough yeah, mysic gohan was pretty cool character i gotta admit, but his fighting style wasn't that great, ofcourse since he din't train for 7 years long, his fighting techniques also became poor, and even tough the old kai unlocked his full potenial, his fighting techniques where still the same before, gohan had to rely on his power to be able to win, thats why he was totally outclassed againts buutenks.

 

But back to the dragon ball super thing.

 

In dragon ball super they made gohan even worse, like you mentioned with gohan after the cell saga, i still got to say i like buu arc gohan if i am comparing to gohan in dragon ball super, i mean, he could barely maintain super saiyan form, hell, even his younger brother must have been stronger then him at this point xD. Atleast his little can act like a man

I only saw a few episodes of the 1st Dragon Ball series, but I liked it.  The others, not so much (Was it in Scary Movie 2 that the director said "First thing you have to remember is that as a rule, sequels suck")

I like it overall but it has it's problems. First off is that it's treading water with retelling the two latest movies all over again.  That being the cast I really like the original stuff like Goku farming and Vegeta's family vacation and so far I'm liking the set up of the Chumpa arc what with the tournament set up and what not. Gohan being depowered so thoroughly is BS and pretty much all the minor fights (ie the ones that aren't the main fight of the arc) seemed to have gotten downgraded from their movie counterparts but I like that they are planning on doing more stuff with Gohan by having him retrain with Piccolo! So yeah, I rather like it! Thought I wonder if they're will be a FUNimation dub of it released on Toonami.

It should've just begun with the Champa Saga.

 

Instead of retconning 2 good movies in bad ways.

Indeed.  Now that we're (finally) in the Champa/Universe 6 arc, I've started to enjoy the show a lot more.

Though my nitpicky side remains concerned about the timeline; Bulma either has to be pregnant with Bra right now or Bra needs to have already been born.

Goten and Trunks haven't aged a day in 5+ years now.  I'm willing to accept that for Goten, since Goku's appearance as a child was similarly stagnated until he had a massive growth spurt.  Trunks, on the other hand, we already know what he should look like at this age thanks to the History of Trunks special.

 

Yeah, the animation's been all over the place, and will likely continue to be that way.  Though the original animes also had pretty varied animation quality (I still wince when I look at many of Last House Studio's episodes).

Beerus even seems closer to his original, movie-based characterization during the Champa Saga, too.

 

Yet another reason why they should've just started with that.

I'm perfectly fine with Beerus.  I particularly like his design.  I just do not see why the people who are managing the show have to ret-con his existence into the existing backstory rather than just have him awake after 2 billion years and have everyone suddenly have to deal with him for the first time.  The writing is just uneven.  There's a perpetual tendency to relieve any tension that's building up and trivialize the threat which is a major annoyance.  Freezer's menace just grew for dozens of episodes in the original series along with the body count.  The folks writing this show obviously don't care for that sort of thing it seems
