ShadowSJG 62 February 21, 2016 Share February 21, 2016 So in the movie, the friendship games take place every four years. So if we go by the movie timeline, she was a freshman along with the Mane 6 when a previous one should have occurred correct? So how did she not know about the Friendship games? Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,015 February 21, 2016 Share February 21, 2016 That's a good point. Clearly she has been there long enough to know that the games existed, so her obliviousness to them was a bit...strange.

Eloquence 2,076 February 21, 2016 Share February 21, 2016 If they take place every four years, then there's no way that a student could be around to see the games more than once. If the games had occurred during the freshman year of the main characters, then it wouldn't occur again until the year after they all graduated. If another one occurred when they were seniors it would only be a three year gap. 1 My Equestrian Empire Characters Fluttershy - Eloquence - Chamomile - Ginseng - Lovestruck Ask Me Questions! Chara 1,565 February 21, 2016 Share February 21, 2016 (edited) Even though an Equestria Girls movie is released every year, there is no comfirmed timeline on how far apart in time each movie happened from each other. You know how in Rainbow Rocks everyone was giving Sunset the death stare over and over? That might be because the events of the first movie happened quite recently. So my guess is is that Friendship Games is about 1 year max from the events of the first movie leaving Sunset joining CHS 2 or some years after the events of the last Friendship Games. StormBlaze 992 February 21, 2016 Share February 21, 2016 The Games are Every 4 years, according to The First movie, Sunset has only been there 3. Count the photos of her winning the Formal Crowns. It is possible that she arrived in that world the year after the last one. Also judging by how enthusiastic CHS is about the Friendship Games at the start of the movie, makes me think maybe the students don't like to talk about all the losses to Crystal Prep. I'm a Brit and our schools are very different (although I went to a Prep School), but how many years do you spend in high school? Maybe that also comes into it? The mane 5 might know about it because they saw the last one, indicating again that Sunset arrived just after it happened? That's my theory anyway ^^; DeviantArt ~~~ YouTube ~~~ MLP Forum Store

If it occured when she was a freshmen, then it would have happened a year later than when it was in the movie. MATHS SON!
SuperBrony87 506 February 23, 2016 Share February 23, 2016 in my personal opinion. Maybe it's because the show never brought it up before? Maybe she's been popping in and out of EG not originally belonging there? Who knows? This is interesting being that if she was attending for the past 4 years which means EG is on their senior year... maybe we only have to tolerate a few more movies? Or the show get spin off mode and becomes a seasonal deal. Which means they could world build some more and maybe show us what we haven't seen yet? I mean Friendship Games shows us they have a rival school. Which I knew was bound to happen I mean who does your school "sports with". Surely we didn't think that Canterlot High was the only school in the area.
FallCake 16 March 30 Share March 30 I'm guessing she joined the human world right after the previous games had finished, and since Canterlot lost badly and hated the games, no one wanted to talk about it there.
cocobeanzzz 10 May 16 Share May 16 I think the reason Sunset didn't know about it is because of how top secret the details of the games need to be. They close off whole parts of the school in order to prepare for the events and they "won't even let them see" what the courses for the events look like. There's no way to prepare. There's no communication between the schools to prepare either. It's like the schools never wanted to be friends in the first place. I don't think it matters when Sunset joined the school or if the students would have talked about it or not. Everyone would know about it due to photos being taken and displayed in yearbooks and around the school (proven by Rainbow Dash). Having the games every 4 years (instead of just having the games for every senior class) means there are YEARS of students unable to participate, thus not showing an accurate representation of academic growth OR of friendship. We have an exact representation of how many years Sunset has been at CHS, we have seen the number of years she's been the Fall Formal Princess, the movies start with her senior year Fall Formal. If they are all in the same class, then this is the LUCKY class of seniors who got to compete. Forgotten Friendship shows them all working on their yearbooks and Rainbow Dash talking about how she will be remembered. It's vague, but it emphasizes the feelings of graduation. Then they all get summer jobs and don't go back to school? Sunset has been there for going on her 5th year, so the class behind the Humane Seven when they were freshmen (4 years behind their graduation year) were able to compete. All Principal Celestia needed to say was, "Since we keep the Friendship Games exclusive to the senior class, we're sure a lot of you are unaware of what goes on during the games" and Sunset could have said, "I guess I was too busy...not making friends...to even notice there /was/ a Friendship Games". Everything about the games themselves inside of a school setting makes no sense
Snoopy Fan 4,810 May 16 Share May 16 Given that Sunset was still a villain at the time, she probably never paid attention to it.

Ye, I added a line at the end of my ramble that I think woulda emphasized that point. Like they're the "friendship" games, and she just didn't care about friendship to even notice the games until her senior year. There's a lot that can go into how Sunset wouldn't know about the games at all, it's pretty interesting 🤷♀️✨
