How did Sunset not know about the Friendship games?

So in the movie, the friendship games take place every four years.  So if we go by the movie timeline, she was a freshman along with the Mane 6 when a previous one should have occurred correct? So how did she not know about the Friendship games?

That's a good point. Clearly she has been there long enough to know that the games existed, so her obliviousness to them was a bit...strange.

If they take place every four years, then there's no way that a student could be around to see the games more than once. If the games had occurred during the freshman year of the main characters, then it wouldn't occur again until the year after they all graduated. If another one occurred when they were seniors it would only be a three year gap.

Even though an Equestria Girls movie is released every year, there is no comfirmed timeline on how far apart in time each movie happened from each other. You know how in Rainbow Rocks everyone was giving Sunset the death stare over and over? That might be because the events of the first movie happened quite recently. So my guess is is that Friendship Games is about 1 year max from the events of the first movie leaving Sunset joining CHS 2 or some years after the events of the last Friendship Games.

The Games are Every 4 years, according to The First movie, Sunset has only been there 3. Count the photos of her winning the Formal Crowns.  It is possible that she arrived in that world the year after the last one. Also judging by how enthusiastic CHS is about the Friendship Games at the start of the movie, makes me think maybe the students don't like to talk about all the losses to Crystal Prep.

 

I'm a Brit and our schools are very different (although I went to a Prep School), but how many years do you spend in high school? Maybe that also comes into it? The mane 5 might know about it because they saw the last one, indicating again that Sunset arrived just after it happened?

It's this ^^^. If she was there as a freshmen, sophmore, junior, and now senior, there is no way the math adds up. If it occured when she was a freshmen, then it would have happened a year later than when it was in the movie.

 in my personal opinion. Maybe it's because the show never brought it up before? Maybe she's been popping in and out of EG not originally belonging there? Who knows? This is interesting being that if she was attending for the past 4 years which means EG is on their senior year... maybe we only have to tolerate a few more movies? Or the show get spin off mode and becomes a seasonal deal. Which means they could world build some more and maybe show us what we haven't seen yet? I mean Friendship Games shows us they have a rival school. Which I knew was bound to happen I mean who does your school "sports with". Surely we didn't think that Canterlot High was the only school in the area.

I'm guessing she joined the human world right after the previous games had finished, and since Canterlot lost badly and hated the games, no one wanted to talk about it there.
