movies/tv Why someone has to pay me to watch Captain America: Civil War. My Marvel Rant.

I don't want to type a story on why I have decided to never pay Disney for a single movie ever again. I have had enough of this company over-saturating the market with super hero movies and ruining cinema. Judging from my title you are saying " This smug guy, he will see the movie if someone pays him?" Well I am tired of seeing the same movie all the time. $12.50 for one show 2d showtime is absurd, especially when you are a company like Disney and you rehash the same content only to make a 2.5 hour commercial for another 2.5 hour commercial.

I don't hate every MCU movie. I have just left ship when Age of Ultron started. These movies were never really that good to begin with. I adore the first Iron Man, First Avenger and I will even be nice and say the first Avengers was something unique for the same, but the Avengers is pretty much a 2012 version of Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, that's all it is, a spectacle. I compare Avengers to Avatar 2009. A movie that lacks any deep or insightful aspects of our culture and panders to psuedo intellectual movie critics who want to feel that they're intelligent for making more of a simple dumb super hero movie.

So I only like these movies, even the ones before the MCU began

Spiderman 1 is corny and dated, but I still appreciate it

Spiderman 2 to me is the definitive Spiderman movie even after 12 years

X Men 2 improved vastly from X Men 2000 and still has action I still want to watch

Iron Man took a character I never read a single comic about and made me care for his story. Iron Man *OUTSIDE* of the MCU is the story about a man's redemption and questioning his legacy.

First Avenger, people hate and I don't see why. The movie is a solid period piece and captures who Steve Rogers really is.

That is my point with the expanded universe sequels. They are long commercials and not good stand alone movies. There has never been a good Hulk movie. The Thor movies are atrocious, but no where near Fantastic Four Level.

My main divorce from Disney, was Force Awakens. After waiting since 1998 for a sequel to Return of the Jedi, I have been betrayed. Disney made Star Wars.... Into a Marvel movie( A topic I have for another time)

So frustrating, that a movie with a low $10m budget like Hardcore Henry bombed and was actually a new and fresh movie from the typical routine we are always getting. Disney owns Star Wars and Marvel and I assure you, will continue owning the box office into beyond 2020.

So, you just don't like the movies? Recent Disney movies have been amazing. The Force Awakens wasn't anywhere near like a Marvel movie, and was actually very similar to A New Hope. While Age of Ultron wasn't the best Marvel movie, it wasn't bad. I haven't seen the Hulk movies but I know they're terrible. Haven't seen Iron Man but I know that they're mostly good. The first Thor wasn't too bad. Haven't seen the second one but I didn't really care. Plus, you didn't even mention Ant Man or Guardians of the Galaxy, both of which were amazing. You're also missing Agents of Shield, which goes behind the scenes of these big superhero battles and focuses on normal (ish) people doing what they can to protect others and themselves. Marvel's cinematic universe is very well set up, and while things may seem repeated and such, that's just because of the comics. Disney has done very well with Marvel, as well as with Star Wars and it's more recent movies (Yeah Zootopia!).

That's what you missed though, if people enjoy these movies, that's fine. But I refuse to partake in a perpetual commercial loop. Each movie sells a future movie and that's the problem with movies in the past near decade. I don't want to see Ant Man and Guardians was garbage.

Force Awakens just rehashed the original 1977 movie and it is sick how people attacked Lucas for doing new things, while Disney can get away with remaking the same movie. Force Awakens only has one thing the original didn't have, that was Finn. But Finn was a coward and a whiner. I like the idea of a storm trooper who goes against the empire, but it was a good idea, wasted.

Both Captain America movies have been some of the best movies in the MCU and the best Superhero movies out there, especially Winter Soldier, so I can't help but be excited for Civil War.

And judging from the reviews, this one looks like it'll top those two easily

Winter Solider is a medicore movie with some good moments. I can watch Winter Soldier and not have major complaints. I just prefer the upbeat attitude and bright tone of First Avenger. Civil War's premise is downright illogical and a waste of time.

"We need to be put in check!"

Well **** you Stark. You are going to side with the government that wanted to nuke New York out of cowardice from an alien invasion. You are aware of the dangers from foreign aliens. You also are aware of Shield and Hydra playing around and wanting to control humanity for their own selfish interest. Are you the same Tony Stark from the first Iron Man? Obviously not, you're back to being a stooge for the government like you were in the beginning.

The entire point of the Marvel cinematic universe is to connect all the movies together. Sure, some are bad, but you can't judge all of them because they connect. Ant Man was separate from the Avengers and other superheros (mostly) until the end of the movie. And Guardians was great. The Force Awakens was similar to A New Hope, but It differed a lot and Finn was a much better character then what you described him as.

Disagree heavily when it comes to Finn and definitely when it comes to the prequels.

Yeah, Finn was a coward at first but throughout the movie he developed into a resistance fighter who realized that he can't keep running from the First Order fought for the friends he met and grew to care about.

Now as for the prequels, you've that wrong completely! Nobody attacked the prequels Lucas or the prequels for trying new things! People hate the prequels because the story line was complete garbage. The only redeeming factor about the prequels was the Clone Wars cartoon that managed to salvage Obi-Wan and Anakin while giving us characters that we can actually care about like Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. The Prequel movies damaged the image of Anakin by making him a psychopathic crybaby and they didn't even show the friendship he and Obi-Wan were supposed to have according to A New Hope. All Obi-Wan did was nag and complain about Anakin and Revenge of the Sith made him look like a complete douchebag when he left his friend, who he apparently loved so much, to die in one of the cruelest ways possible.

This is why I'm adamant when I say that the duel between Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano was one of the most powerful duels in the franchise and better than either duel between Anakin/Vader and Obi-Wan. Because the duel between Obi-Wan in Vader in Revenge of the Sith was over the top, had no emotional drive due to their friendship being so poorly handled, poorly written dialogue ("I have the High Ground Anakin! It's Over" Yeah, well so did Darth Maul) and Obi-Wan pulling that asshole move at the end of the duel. I think Robot Chicken had it spot on in this skit!

And unfortunately, Revenge of the Sith took Obi-Wan's character in A New Hope down with it. I can't even take certain exchanges of dialogue seriously because I have the events of Revenge of the Sith in mind.

Obi-Wan: "Here is your father's lightsaber! He killed 30 Children with it."

Luke: "How did my father die?"

Obi-Wan: "I chopped off his arm and legs and left him to burn near a river of lava. He was a good friend."

I mean really, can you honestly say you respect Obi-Wan after the prequels?

I mean yes, Clone Wars did managed to salvage the friendship between the two but even then, Anakin was closer to Ahsoka than he ever was towards Obi-Wan.
