general How do you feel about the rise of computers?

Self driving cars I think will cause alot of accidents.

How so? People developing self-driving cars are aware of the issues they need to overcome, and it surely can't cause more accidents than before. The self-driving cars Google has put on the road have never been responsible for the near-negligible amount of accidents it has been in until March 2016 (a.k.a crash into another bus...at 2 mph). Tesla's Autopilot system (technically semi-autonomous, since it only works on the highways) doesn't really have enough data to track its number of car accidents, but there is more than enough news that show how well the Tesla models can avoid accidents or mitigate damage at the very least.

Human error is far more likely to cause accidents than self-driving cars, and further development in self-driving cars in the next decade will significantly reduce car accident rates. Self-driving cars will eventually become more affordable; Tesla Motors has already intended to release their new model next year, Model 3, which is much more affordable than the Model S; they're amazingly ahead of many other car companies.

There are to many variables when driving you don't know if the person on the road knows how to drive. The most dangerous thing in this world is driving .

Yes there is, but that isn't really...relevant to what I was saying? We still need licensed drivers awake and on the wheel for early commercial self-driving cars, but when a car is self-driving you basically throw out human error, which is a overwhelmingly primary cause of car accidents. And it's been shown self-driving, or even semi-autonomous cars drive far better than humans do. You should just read on it without making assumptions that just because a computer is assisting you on the wheel it's suddenly going to cause more accidents.

And driving isn't that dangerous.

Hardly as much as human-driven cars. Most of their accidents weren't even caused by the self-driving cars themselves, but by other reckless drivers. A few seconds search already shows how over the many months they were on the road, only one accident in Feb 29 was directly caused by the self driving car (driving at very low speeds).

Whoever says that self-driving cars are causing more accidents than human-driven cars should be laughed upon, because they are fear-mongering with little to no substanial evidence supporting their claims.

  • 2 weeks later...

Humans are walking variables, it's going to be ludicrously difficult to emulate a very dynamic consciousness on a machine.

I looked up how seemingly sentient IBM's Watson was and even that thing had to rely on stored data, it was not very different from its ancestor, Deep Blue. Sapient virtual intelligence is definitely not inconceivable though, it might just have to involve a completely different computer architecture.
