Help with my new OC

Uh, I need help. Trying to develop a new OC 'Birdsong' (its just a placeholder name)

 

Name- 'Birdsong'

I really need to think of a good enough name. Help, anypony?

 

Appearance- currently a blank flank because can't decide/ think of a cutie mark.

Special talent- 'Birdsong' doesn't have a cutie mark yet. Her special talent is being able to replicate bird sounds and sing like a bird. A rather stupid talent if you ask me.

 

Personality- 'Birdsong' still needs to have a personality explored, but I have this concept of a cheerful and carefree mare, because my pity party personalities are getting old. I just need to think of a few quirks, and flaws, that sort of stuff.

 

Backstory- I have no clue where to begin.

 

So, help?

Birdsong is a pretty good name but, no offense, it kinda made me cringe when I read it. Your OC is definitely developing and I have no idea why I'm posting here because I give bad ideas myself. I think her cutie mark should have some kind of music note on it and IDK, I can't think of anything to do with birds right now...

The name was just a placeholder, because well, Birdsong reminds me of this annoying character from warriorcats... O.o

Yeah, that is a good idea. I would just make it a bit simpler, like just leave the bird and the music note. Thats just my opinion~

How about this for a flaw: She's a little scatterbrained and cannot multitask, and she tends to excessively focus on whatever she's doing at the time, leading to ignored conversations and a lot of social awkwardness. She emphasizes with birds because they have no idea what's going on either.

 

As for a name, how about Flock Together? Or Sharpwhistle? For a cutie mark, one of these things might work.

 

It's a bird call. Take out some of the details, maybe change the color, and it could work quite well.

Thank you!  I've made a whole bunch of characters myself, even if I never draw them out.

To me, an OC isn't just a color palette on a body, or just another simple, measly "idea" inside your head you created to use occasionally for roleplaying. No; to me, it's a whole new being, albeit a (seemingly) non-existent one, you still created a new, unique, single individual. You set a personality, a soul for it. You give it character, a back story perhaps, a unique vocabulary, choice of words, family, memories... etc etc. You may inspire your character from other sources, but in the end, an OC is meant to be unique (despite how unoriginal it might seem. To me, the less "original-looking", the better. No one looks like some kind of weird crocodile creature with butterfly wings in real life; we merely look the same (generally))

 

I'm not one to say what your OC should look like, and I'm not sure if it is a good idea to have ANYONE design an OC for you, simply because of the definition itself: "Original Character". The "original" part originates from you, the creator. Not from random people in the internet.

Maybe due to her talent with bird songs and repeating them,  she could help  with the rehabilitation of hurt birds?  Sort of talk to them and comfort them and etc to get them to heal and stuff.

I started drawing MANY pics of Twii and Rosemari and Birdsong, therefore losing track and not yet completing Birdsong and Rosemari's characters and at least 5 art requests. I'm so distracted, haha

If you ask me, Bird Song would be a really good name. But you might need to explore other talents she could have, like being able to speak bird or she would be a really good normal singer.
