pnylvr 185 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 On the one hand, Twilight's a princess--it makes sense for her to have a castle. On the other hand, the castle is about as "human"-scale and pleasant as an airport hangar. I wish the castle were a larger version of the library or something along those lines. Wind Chaser 4,768 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 (edited) In all truth, I voted "don't really care". It was such a well-designed location and it did look nice and homely, but I'm not going to get all emotional about it. When things change in the show, they have their times and their reasons. Unfortunately, the subplot of "Trade Ya!" that set up the destruction of the library was terrible, and so was the writing of "Twilight's Kingdom" pretty much everywhere outside of the fight scene. The castle does not accurately reflect the role and personality of Princess Twilight (should be smaller and shorter to reflect her humility), is architecturally out of place in Ponyville, and the way it just popped up out of the ground really missed a big opportunity to show all of the other ponies pitching in to help rather than just being damsels in distress. My feelings are more animosity towards the episodes that sent it off as well as the artistic merits of the replacement than anything else. cider float 2,537 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 (edited) Yes I do. It's was just such a cozy place and there were many memories of the previous episodes there. The castle seems a bit cold and distant. Heh I kind of feel like the library changed into an alicorn as well. How did no pony jump on that joke before? Zeal Crown 194 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 The Golden Oaks Library was so much cozier and roomy. The castle feels like if you moved into a giant mansion where you couldn't even yell to reach the other side. It's great to have big things, but ultimately, it's useless. Heck, we barely ever see book Twilight anymore. Remember when she was a librarian and not a princess? I don't want to say it...but... *sigh* good times.
Classic Play 232 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 I like the whole concept of how the castle is set up for all the six and I like that Twilight can't be the Princess of Friendship without her friends and I do like the map, but I do absolutely miss the library. It's been with her and the fans since episode one. The episode after the Starlight two-parter was kinda sad, when Twilight and Spike visited the remains of it. And it was even more emotional, when the other five hung up the roots to give Twi that fun reminder. That episode was pretty emotional. It was a nice homage, anyway. But, yes, I do miss the library. So much happened there. Plot-wise and friendship-wise. It was like it was it's own character. My OC(s): Clear Rider My Ask a Pony At some point, there will be a fic or more here "You can't be a comedian, unless you can laugh at yourself." - Me "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss.
AlbaTross 1,586 August 4, 2016 Share August 4, 2016 I miss the Golden Oak Library. It's where much of the first four seasons took place. A lot happened there. Sure, it had to have been the second most confusing home for the mane six architecturally. It's like the animation staff couldn't decide if the bedroom loft was supposed to be on the ground level or up a staircase and went back and forth all the time. I suppose it's not as confusing as how Pinkie can simultaneously live in a small upper loft in Sugarcube Corner and a large back area that's accessed from the ground level or is sometimes accessed by the same front door as the main entrance even though it leads to a different area. And no, it can't possibly be a different place than Pinkie's dwelling since her bed is there and the same staircase she uses to get up to her loft which must lead to a basement in this alternate reality version of her home. Anyways, as much as the castle has grown on me it's not the place where everything started. I remember last year at BronyCAN one guy I sat beside got a trading card from the Cardapalooza panel that had a picture of the Golden Oak Library with 2010-2014 underneath. I didn't get that one, but I can't unsee it. I choose to ignore the personification of the library in the Japan exclusive manga as that just makes the season 4 finale that much darker. Sparklefan1234 169,157 August 5, 2016 Share August 5, 2016 I really miss The Golden Oaks Library. In my favorite season 1 episode "Look Before You Sleep" the library is the primary location where the story takes place. and in my favorite season 3 episode (And my favorite episode overall) "Magical Mystery Cure" it's where Twilight completes Starswirl the Bearded's spell before becoming an Alicorn .

Thrond 3,263 August 9, 2016 Share August 9, 2016 (edited) Nah. I have some nostalgia for the library, but I don't actually feel much sadness for its loss, aside from for the memories - and especially books - that Twilight lost with it. I like how the castle is crystalline but also tree-shaped, reflecting her new status but not forgetting her roots. I also like how there's a throne for each of the six, which went a way towards making me more comfortable with Twilight as a princess. If only they'd do more with that status. I'd like to see a little more of the castle itself, as we mostly only see a couple rooms of it. Has Twilight fashioned part of it into a public library? Do the other five have personal quarters? What does Starlight's room look like? It's got a nice purple colour scheme and I think its interiors are pleasant.
