ggg-2 3,553 February 20, 2017 Share February 20, 2017 Yes, both were young impulsive teenagers in Where the Apple Lies, but Big Mac has been implied many times (and outright confirmed by show staff just as often including by Peter New himself) to be the most intelligent member of the entire Apple family. You'd think he'd be willing to listen to reason. Don't be a nerd. Join the herd!
FlareGun45 2,221 February 20, 2017 Share February 20, 2017 NOW he'd be willing to listen to reason! That's why he decided to listen more and stop talking. It was his talking along side with AJ's lies that almost had his leg cut off!
Luigi 7,869 February 20, 2017 Share February 20, 2017 I think he'd listen to reason, he just doesn't ever hear good reasoning. We see it I need Applebuck season when Applejack tell she him she can get all the apples harvested by herself, and we all know how well that went. BastementSparkle 20,326 February 20, 2017 Share February 20, 2017 Well, being intelligent and being reasonable don't necessarily always go together. He dismissed AJ's idea in the episode because he knew Granny wouldn't like it, which she didn't. If BM was the most intelligent back then, that could have given him a bit of an ego possibly. He's the "Smart" one with all the good ideas, why should he have to listen? Now he's more reasonable and much more willing to listen obviously, which this episode clearly helped teach him. 1 Twilight is best pony. Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to? pony.colin 156 February 21, 2017 Share February 21, 2017 Ponies aren't automatically born experienced and wise for their age. It takes years for ponies to learn lessons. It takes time, patience, understanding and experience to actually realize that your opinion or approach, might not be the best nor might it be also correct or it might not be best suited for a situation. They were younger after-all, it only seems natural that they would try things out their way before finally listening to each other for a change. cmarston1 5,959 February 21, 2017 Share February 21, 2017 Being an impulsive teenager at the time is all you really need to know why he acted in such a way.
BlueStreak98 828 February 21, 2017 Share February 21, 2017 This episode bothers me for this reason. I get that they're trying to push a moral here, the whole "be a listener" thing, but I really don't like the way they go about it. They take it to extremes; Mac goes from the pony that dismisses everyone's ideas all the time to the pony that barely ever talks, and something about that just rubs me the wrong way. Ganondorf8 11,305 February 21, 2017 Share February 21, 2017 In his mind, Big Mac believes that his ideas and his alone are the best ones to go with. Since the rest of the Apple Family have declared him the smartest among them, it gives credence to the fact that he believes he knows what's best. Applejack does bring youth to the table in addition to wild ideas that Big Mac views as being difficult to implement, yet he has experience that he feels is necessary and won't put the family into any kind of financial trouble.
