Should Scootaloo be taught a lesson?

she's idolizing pretty hard. Even more than RD idolized the 'Bolts, or Daring Do. I think it should be Pipsqueak, a fan of Princess Luna, who helps Scoots to tone down the fangirling a wee bit. Maybe include Luna in on the lesson, too. Rainbow Dash and her parents are ponies, just like her, so there's really no need for Scoots to be at the level of kissing the ground they walk on and building shrines and offering Starlight Glimmer sacrifices for them. (although I wouldn't complain)

Should Pip and Lulu be the ones to do the job? (while also seeing more of Pipsqueak MILDLY fanboying for Luna)

Interesting question, seeing as Scootaloo really does worship RD pretty hardcore. I think it could be a great topic; it'd be kind of a shock if the lesson came from RD herself, but I'm not waiting around for that to happen, haha!

I would love any kind of message that speaks out against celebrity worship and this could fit that bill if they wanted it too. This society treats rich and famous people like gods and anything that speaks against it would be really cool in this show. Probably won't get anything THAT specific though, so it is just my own personal dream.

As for just something personal for Scoots, I am not sure how they could bring the issue to light. That entire episode was filled to the brim with geeking out about a specific pony and by the end of the episode it sorta put that in a positive light.

Yay I get to use super secret emotes.

Maybe but I'm not sure it's a negative trait. It isn't blind unhealthy obsession as we saw that Scootaloo can recognize when her hero does a dumb and also say something about it with passion and reason. The hero worship that bothers me isn't the volume, but blindly thinking your hero can do no wrong and refusing to call them out when the do.

Because of that ... I'm not sure the lesson has much weight outside of 'be less annoying'. I mean, it could carry some unfortunate implications.

I also think that even the angle of the proposed moral would go so far as to minimize the maturity we saw in Scoots by pushing a lesser moral on her -- and since it's a trait that she apparently can keep in check when she needs to it comes across as superfluous for the character.

I dunno, I think Parental Glidance did a good job showing that she's not one to blindly worship someone. In that episode we saw RD letting her down for the first time and Scoots chewed her out for it

she's been idolizing RD since day 1. Keeping her half-eaten sandwiches and baby diapers is pretty extreme. So is freaking out over meeting RD's parents, just for being relate to the idol she idolizes.

There is nothing wrong with having a role model, and especially if she thinks of her as a sister.  She should be fine.

she has been taking her way more than a role model. You don't obsess over a role model to the point of collecting their baby diapers and childhood sandwiches.

She is young and doesn't think anything of it other than trying to impress her and others. How does this compare to Rainbow's parents then?

She apparently has shitty/uninvolved parents. I'm not certain the lesson would be able to avoid having some horrible implication being dragged along.  As I said earlier.

The 'extreme' things you mentioned were in there for humor. They didn't undermine the message that Scootaloo's inspiration that she derived from RD is healthy because it isn't blind. Your idea would undermine that. A good writer won't sacrifice one character's growth for the indulgence of spotlighting another character. The idea would have made sense a few seasons ago, but with Parental Glideance out, that idea becomes ... detrimental.

....

I am often amazed at how some people so readily compare the purposeful and intentional exaggerated moments of this show with typical social norms -- and then use the exaggerated scenes as a justification that a character needs a moral spanking.
