Talk about Sci-Fi (and maybe a little Fantasy)

Talk about your favorite sci-fi works here. Doesn't have to be anything specific - print, film, or TV; space opera or hard sci-fi.

I think all my favorite series are on the softer end of the sci-fi spectrum. Anything that shows a lot of imagination and a mix of humor and drama, like Doctor Who, Farscape, and Saga.

Number one for me is Star Wars. I also like the original 1979 Battlestar Galactica, the original Star Trek TV series, Aliens (the first two), Tron, THX-1138, and a few that blur the lines of sci-fi and just plain strange, like The Prisoner (1966) and LOST. I could go into quite a few standalone movies and other things, but I could go on all day, so I'll stick to just these highlights for now.

I'm a huge fan of the writings of  Larry Niven, Anne McCaffrey, and Robert Heinlein. Another favorite is Harry Harrison for his wonderful and humorous "Stainless Steel Rat" series of books.  For fantasy, I adore the late Sir Terry Pratchett's Disc World series. I was saddened when he passed away two years ago.

As for TV, I am a very devoted fan of Doctor Who. Thanks to my BBBFF and his VHS collection, I grew up watching the classic series as well. Really loved Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, and actually met Sylvester McCoy!
