Which characters would you use to represent the four directions?

Many cultures around the world use different symbols and characters to represent each of the four directions of north, south, east, and west.

Perhaps it would be good to see an artwork of a compass with four characters from the show to represent the cardinal directions. Which ones would you use, and what are your reasons?

And what other characters would you use for the other directions?

Have we seen examples of Equestrian written language that isn't English?

If you mean pony characters ...

North is Prince Rutherford

East is Amira

South is Tirek (cause he is in the Equestrian version of the 'deep south')

West is Applejack

I'd think of Twilight as North because she's like 'true north' and is a good guide to follow so as not to get lost. She also has a star for her cutie mark which could represent the North Star.

I'd base my other choices somewhat on the geography of each direction as I know it in the U.S. (I don't know enough about world geography, so I'll stick with the narrower domestic picture).

For East I'd pick Rarity because she represents the way the eastern U.S. used to be considered the civilized part of the country (while the west was still 'wild').

For South I'd pick Applejack because she has a southern accent, has a work ethic some associate with the region and strikes me as a Texan.

I'd go Rainbow Dash for the West coast because she seems she'd like the action which is often prevalent there.

Pinkie would fit well with the Southeast because there's a lot of fun and tourism there. Flutters could be a good fit for the Northeast (maybe around Maine) because it's pretty, natural, and Canada is just over the hill where she would fit in nicely with her subtle accent. Let's give the Pacific Northwest to Big Mac; he'd be nice and sturdy for all the natural, albeit rainy, settings. And finally, let's drop the CMC as a single unit in the Southwest to keep Rainbow company and tackle all the challenges and possibilities there.
