Those who don't learn history are due to repeat it

We see in the very first EG movie that Celestia mentions that she had hoped Sunset would use the mirror to return to Equestria, and also for Twilight to retrieve her element that SS stole, which doesn’t belong in that world. She prevented Twilight’s friends about all going, because it would disrupt the balance of the AU.

In the “reflections” comic arc, Celestia expresses concerns that sending something as powerful of the EoH might only add to the rift between the worlds of a AU and the Equestria we know from FiM. (and this is seen also in EG, where not only Twilight’s element passes through from Equestria and its magic used there, but Twilight herself, being a powerful magic user, Sunset Shimmer, and the Sirens). In the comic, with the walls of the two worlds crumbling, and the link between both worlds increasing, that the mane 6 soon discover that they can’t physically harm the evil alternates of the royal sisters, without hurting their counterparts in the Equestria that they come from. Evil Celestia states that because Twilight herself is so powerful, that she’s quickening the tear in time and space that the good Celestia caused when she frequently visited good King Sombra in his world.

The worlds are once again merging in EQ thanks to Sunset, Twilight, the elements, and the Sirens’ presence- we can see that through the psuedo EoH and magic leaking into the human world from Equestria at a faster rate since the first movie. It was Starswirl who reminded Celestia that being a leader means making decisions you don’t want to is part of what must be done, and Celestia passed that to Twilight, in attempt to restore balance between both worlds, as she-too was being sealed along with evil Celestia.

Sunset ultimately wanted to follow in Celestia's hoofsteps, and its ironic that she's doing so in the worst way possible- repeating her former mentor's folly. As the rift grows larger, will SS eventually come to realize that she, too, must restore balance between worlds, and leave her friends, taking all the magic (and the Sirens) back to Equestria?

Well, I got a couple of facts that may explain the discrepancies

1- The comics are loosely canon to the show. The comics follow the show canon, but the show won't go out of it's way to prevent comic inconsistencies

2- BUT, there's one thing that may still save the reflections arc from being out-canon: If I remember well, the mirror used in the arc was a prototype of the one that leads to the human world. While it wasn't stated, the fact that you can cause rifts if you cross dimensions using the prototype doesn't sound far fetched

And to be fair, the only EQG-related rifts we've seen... came from a knowledge-hungry dark angel with Chell-on-steroids powers.

whether you think so or not, the movies are canon to themselves, and what Celestia said about doublets/ dopplegangers being in a shared world can still cause havoc- just like it did in the reflections arc. Couple that with the magic leaking over from Equestria since the firs movie, and now in even greater quantity since the portal blew up and got a crack in it that dispells even more magic, and you still have a serious problem for the human world. We can see it becoming more like pony Equestria, with the mane 7 "ponying' up, getting faux elements of harmony, and just plain using equestrian magic, when it shouldn't be in the human world, as was made clear in the very beginning. Whether you want to deny the comics is fine, but there's no doubt the worlds are still merging in the movies, which is still history repeating itself, no matter how "loosely" the comics are tied.

That's true, Equestria has been increasingly more influential to the human world, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will be a rift if two counterparts interact with each other

you don't know that.

just like the human world collapsed in Friendship Games, when Sci-Twi was releasing all that Equestrian magic from her anti-pregnancy pillbox, it could've been collapsing at a faster rate in the background when the two Twi's met. We only saw all of 2 seconds when they met, anyway. That's hardly enough time to show anything of significance that resulted from that in that time span.

Well, of course it would collapse then - given Midnight Sparkle's powers.

There might actually be some kinda rift going on given the ending to Legend of Everfree, but I am confident that it is eventually going to get addressed at some point in time in the series.

But I honesty don't think Sunset is going back to Equestria.  I feel her destiny is to help establish magic into the human world.

That's true. Besides, the argument of pony Twi not returning to the human world, and the rest of the Mane6 not being allowed to do so either is because "It'll be weird to have two of us in the same place", not anything of the world going bonkers  . Plus, we got this joke at the end of the bloopers (which I consider 100% canon because..... Pinks)

I think the writers kept that purposely vague. It allows any and all interpretations to be correct and false at the same time. For all we know it could have simply led to the portal snapping like a rubber band if too many individuals crossed at once. It could have caused spider rain, or cats and dogs living together.

The fact it isn't the same portal as the comic allows the viewer to play with the lack of information any way they see fit. Magic without rules, amirite?

Yeah, I can see how the series could wrap up with Sunset Shimmer returning to Equestria after she and the Remane 6 survive some inter-dimensional magic apocalypse. I wouldn't be surprised if we finally came across the human Sunset Shimmer(assuming she still exists).

All of the magical crises in the series ultimately stem from Sunset's decision to steal Twilight's crown in the first place. The Sirens empowerment, the genesis of Midnight Sparkle and the discovery of the 'harmony crystals' or whatever they're being called is all resultant of her actions. Until magic is removed from that world and/or Sunset Shimmer returns, these kinds of things will likely continue.

The truth is always rough.
