Scootaloo1 106 November 29, 2011 Share November 29, 2011 Banished to the moon for wanting to be noticed... is that the appropriate punishment? All Luna wanted was for the ponies to appreciate the night, since the night was her hard work, and since Ponies generally sleep during the night, her work goes almost wasted. Sure her actions towards it were a little extreme, but she wanted some attention and appreciation... that's all. Celestia banning Luna to the moon seemed a little too extreme for me... she didn't go soft on her sister... Do you know how long a thousand years is? Many many FiM marathons, if you ask me. Am I just feeling too sympathetic for Luna or does anyone else share my thoughts? 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You got a problem with blank flanks? Crispy 5,563 November 29, 2011 Share November 29, 2011 You missed the part where the bitterness inside her turned her into a wicked mare of Darkness. Going into 'head canon based on show canon' territory here, but hear me out. Luna and Celestia controlled the Elements of Harmony, as evidenced when they used them to defeat Discord. Celestia used their power on her own to banish Nightmare Moon/Luna. The Mane six used their power to destroy Nightmare Moon and free Luna. Theory: It was as much as Celestia could do to banish her. With the co-owner of the Elements against her, she could only use half their strength. She carefully monitored her subjects, and seeing five of the six bearers in one place, announced the 1000th year Summer Sun Celebration in Ponyville, and sent the one she knew to be the final Element, knowing that only with full power could NNM finally be defeated. It wasn't what she wanted, by any means, but it was all Celestia could do, and it had to be done. 2 GET IN THE PIT On 8/23/2012 at 1:54 AM, Djenty said: ON MLP 4UMS ERRYTHIN IS SRS

Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 29, 2011 Share November 29, 2011 Well I can't say she didn't deserve it. She did kinda try to cover the world in eternal darkness...if she didn't attempt retaliation then I would be a little more sympathetic. LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. It wasn't what she wanted, by any means, but it was all Celestia could do, and it had to be done. So you mean that, she was banished to the moon because Celestia alone could not defeat her, so she waited until the time was right to bring her back to her senses? If so, I believe I see it this way a little clearer also, yes, I did forget the part about jealousy, my bad... http://www.equestria...banishment.html A good read, something I must have overlooked, Whoops... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You got a problem with blank flanks? Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 29, 2011 Share November 29, 2011 A good read, something I must have overlooked, Whoops... Well she does say not to take that as canon, that is her take on it but because it has never been mentioned in the show, the writers can easily make a different reason why. Eh. I think it's safe to presume that her intentions with Luna weren't exactly a secret amongst the staff, who would have no real reason to go with something else later on down the line. Especially when you consider that the her explanation above makes the most sense when you consider Celestia's overall character (ie benevolent ruler/loving sister). Slendermane 477 November 29, 2011 Share November 29, 2011 (edited) It really depends on the circumstances at the time, but I think Luna let her anger and jealousy literally posses her. Celestia wanted her sister back, but if she didn't so something, the world would be plunged into never ending darkness. I wonder if she had complete control over the elements when she used them. I think what happened to Luna was tragic, but given the circumstances, it was justified. Edited November 30, 2011 by Slendermane Long image. Jeremy 128 November 29, 2011 Share November 29, 2011 Is there a reference I'm missing here? Nope. Just saying it was kinda terrible they made that whole "I missed you sister from now on we'll rule together" thing at the end of season one episode two and just kinda forgot or 'banished' Luna until season two. Maybe we won't even see her again for another while after Nightmare Night. 1 Quando omni flunkus moritati

Slendermane 477 November 30, 2011 Share November 30, 2011 Anyway, I guess the biggest question is what exactly happened 1000 years ago? If Celestia just banished Luna to the moon for a thousand years for throwing a hissy fit, then the punishment seems a bit harsh. But if Luna had lost herself and became possessed by her own anger and jealousy, and was going to make her subjects appreciate her night by any means necessary, then it may be a fair punishment. The thousand years seems a little excessive, but considering that they are either immortal or just have extremely long life spans, it may just seem excessive to us. It is also possible that Celestia may have not had as much control over the Elements since she was out of harmony with her sister. 1 Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. SBaby 660 November 30, 2011 Share November 30, 2011 (edited) It wasn't what she wanted, by any means, but it was all Celestia could do, and it had to be done. Even if it meant making all of Equestria afraid of her. Either way, the popular theory is that this is why she no longer has the ability to use the Elements of Harmony. The fight with her sister disrupted the harmony in Equestria to an extent that she was unable to fully restore it herself, thus making the Elements of Harmony powerless in her possession.
